Dear Region 10 Neighborhood Councils-I am attaching the official list of your polling locations and hours for Sat. October 27. It was prepared by the Elections Divison with your input late yesterday afternoon. Please make sure all of the information is correct. Because Park Mesa Heights and Empowerment West Area only have two contested seats, they are having two-hour elections. Because Empowerment North did not achieve any contested seats, they are not having an election but will go through a formal Board Affirmation process at their Thurs. November 4 Board meeting, which the Dept. of Neighborhood Empowerment will oversee. They still need to find additional candidates for a number of their Board seats, both those that would have been elected and those that are normally appointed. If you are aware of any potential candidates within their boundary area (live, work, own property, participate in non-profits, attend church, etc.) please let me know. Congratulations and thank you for all of your hard work so far. Now we are focusing on getting lots of our stakeholders to those elections and also finding volunteers (non-candidates) to help out at the polls on election day. I have started a list of volunteers: Empowerment Central has two (Carrie Scoville from Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council and Barbara Jones-Chikosi), Empowerment West has one (Jo Eure), Mid City has two (Robert Portillo and Jo Schaefer), Park Mesa Heights has one (Marie Bryant), UNNC has none that I am aware of yet, and West Adams has three (Hattie Babb, Edina Higgins, and Geraldine Wilson). For a two-hour election, it would be good to have 4 volunteers, for a four-hour 6 volunteers, and for a six-hour election, 8-10, so that the volunteer does not have to be at the polling place for more than three hours. Volunteers can be 16 years of age and older. Please arrange to have sandwiches or other food for your volunteers and the Poll Manager and Assistant Poll Manager which the Dept. will provide, as a courtesy to them. Volunteers will mostly be used as greeters and to help other poll staff figure out who lives or works within the Area or Region boundaries. They will have Poll Worker training on Wed. October 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Constituent Service Center, 8475 S. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90044. Any Board member or candidate is welcome to attend, as well, to learn more about the polling process. You may also want additional volunteers and Board members who are not up for election to help out at a Neighborhood Council information table near the polling place exit. That is where you can give out a survey to those who vote, to find out stakeholder needs and ways the NC can improve, flyers for your upcoming meetings and events, brochures from local churches, merchants, Council District office services telephone directory, discount coupons from local stores, etc. Park Mesa Heights prepared a good stakeholder survey for their Unity Fest on August 25 and I will try to get a copy of that as a sample. Sincerely,

Rosalie Preston
Independent Election Administrator
