Light in the Darkness
The first colored electric Christmas lights on outdoor evergreen trees appeared in Denver in 1914. The tradition began thanks to a sick boy bedridden in the top floor of his home. Ten-year-old David Sturgeon couldnt see his familys Christmas tree downstairs, so his grandfather, a pioneering electrician, painted some light bulbs red and green and strung them on a tree outside Davids window.

Not only did the lights brighten what would be Davids last holiday, but residents throughout the city came by to admire the display. Just as Davids innovative grandfather brought light into the boys dark times and joy to the whole community, God revealed the true light by sending Jesus into our dark world. For the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it (John 1:5, NRSV).

Want to be the best mom possible?

you are not alone! mothers of Preschoolers (moPs) might be just the thing for you. every mom is welcomed, accepted and inspired to reach her potential and recognize her influence and purpose within her family - and also that she is part of god's bigger purpose and plan. moms really do make a better world! our meetings are held on the 3rd thursday of every month (sept. - may) from 9:15-11:15am. also, we have started a book Club that meets in the evenings.

Fall Fundraiser cookie and soup mixes

Were selling jars of cookie mixes and soup mixes in seven varieties. one jar is $8.00 and two jars are $15.00. these cute jars make aordable housewarming, holiday, host and teacher gifts. if you have any questions, contact tara garrison at bacione@wsucougars.com and #215.205.3716.

our mission team has been busy this autumn making shipping boxes for Philabundance, packing meals for aid for Friends to send along with your homemade meals, collecting donations for ambler Cupboard and providing services for the needy in kensington. on a beautiful saturday afternoon in october, our Pray 4 u car wash saw more than 40 cars come through our parking lot with all but one occupant willing to join in prayer or to be prayed for. the november outreach to the community was the rakenbake where we oered up to one hour free leaf raking and a baked treat to boot. teams of three went out to the homes of those who responded to the postcard mailing that went out in october. octobers mission of the month, laurel house, oered a presentation on sunday, october 21, in the evening , by a member of the sta there. the event was free and invitations were extended to other churches and temples in the area. she oered a lot of information about the programs oered to women in need of shelter and/or counseling. Donations of gift cards, cash, and needed personal items were collected. beck Conrad and the choir were in charge of operation Christmas Child this year and delivered 90 boxes. rachel Circle will also have the angel tree set up in the narthex so you can choose as many angel tags as you want and give toys or gifts to the child on the tag. and speaking of children and toys, there will also be a toys for tots box in the narthex after the angle tree is cleared so if you miss one, make sure to fill the other!!! 14 volunteers from Jarrettown attended the Welcome Church service in logan Circle. this service is held weekly and attended by the area homeless population of that area. thanks to burt Jones for being our bus driver! Following the service we gave out items collected by our congregation. 11 hats, 11 pairs of gloves, 5 scarves, 300 pairs of socks, 40 cans of orange juice and 12 chapsticks, 2 coats. Weather has certainly been an issue this fall with two major storms coming in just a week apart we know some of our families have been aected. Continue to support them with gifts and prayers. We know they are very appreciative of both. ohaat (one house at a time) is in need of twin size sheets and blankets (new or in good condition) and also neW pillows. there is a collection box in the mission center hallway. Visit ohaat.org for more information about the beds for kids program or ask one of our volunteers what a joy it is to deliver a bed to a kid who hasnt had one before. Decembers mission of the month will focus on aid for Friends. in addition to our usual group which meets on the third tuesday of each month, we know there will be lots of parties and way too much food!!! aFF trays are always available in the narthex or the mission center but if you cant quite figure out what to do with what youve got, call michele scholtz (215-628-2117). Well figure out how to include it in meals were already making. Were all familiar with making meals, but did you know aid for Friends accepts other gifts? Cash is always useful, but so are certain pieces of furniture and small appliances, especially toaster ovens. toaster ovens are great for warming meals eciently and comparatively safely. Carole mcglumphy will have more information about how you can help. 2013 is right around the corner and our missions calendar will be all set and ready to go. but if theres an outreach or mission that touches your heart and youd like to put something in motion, contact Pastor Walt to see how we can help you. until 2013, have a merry Christmas!

Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity?

help babysit the children while the moms attend the meeting. this service requires only two hours of your time per month. you will be so appreciated by the moPs members. Please contact Jean graber at jumckids@comcast.net or #215.646.4129.
