1. PURPOSE : 1.1 All standard of practice provides a guide to the knowledge, skills, judgement and attitudes
that are needed to practice safely. 1.2 Standard of practice provide a means of determining the quality of care which an individual receives regardless of whether intervention is provided solely by a Registered Nurse or in conjunction with other licensed or unlicensed personnel.

2. DEFINITION : 2.1 A standard of practice are guidelines used to determine what a nurse should accomplish or
those task which are not to be done.

3. POLICY: 3.1 Standard of practice shall be considered as the baseline quality nursing care. 3.2 Shall be developed in relation to the law governing nursing practice. 3.3 Applies to the registered nurse practicing in any setting. 3.4 Govern the practice of Licensee at all levels of practice. STANDARD II : 1. Nursing Process is used as the framework for providing quality nursing. 2. Nursing Clinical care standards are developed, implemented and followed. 3. Utilize Nursing Process for documenting patient care. STANDARD III : 1.Training and development of Nursing Personnel is provided to ensure continuing education and provision of quality care. 1.1 Regular continuing education and trainings are conducted. 1.2 On - going assessment of learning needs and performance competencies. 1.3 Development of mandatory courses. ( I.E. ACLS , BCLS, IV Therapy. ) 1.4 Continuing education for Saudi Nurses. STANDARD IV : 1.There is written Quality Management plan with regular monitoring of the quality of nursing care that is documented :

1.1 QM Nursing team is established with its Mission, Vision and Values.
1.2 Develop clinical standard of nursing practice based on high volume, high risk and problem prone. 1.3 Evaluation of effectiveness of clinical standards using patient care outcome. STANDARD V : 1.An active infection control program provided by a qualified Infection Control Nurse : 1.1 Duties and responsibilities of the ICN according to Ministry of Health job description. 1.2 Infection Control Policies, Procedures and standard are implemented. 1.3 A surveillance system is established to monitor Infection Control practices through com prehensive education training and evaluation. STANDARD VI : 1. The Nursing Service has written Clinical Nursing procedures and Administrative Policy manual for all nursing personnel to follow : 1.1 Procedures that are multidisciplinary are reviewed with the concern department. STANDARD VII : 1. Channels of communication in the nursing service are open, to improve the quality of patient care and staff satisfaction : 1.1 Regular meetings at various levels of organizations are conducted. STANDARD V III : 1. A Code of Ethics guide the professional behaviour of nurses.

4. PROCEDURES: 4.1 Outline what the profession expects of its members. 4.2 Promote, guide and direct professional nursing practice. Important for self - assessment and evaluation of practicing nurse. 4.3 Aid in developing a better understanding and response for the various and complementary roles that nurses have.
