Dairy Report
Dairy- Milk farmer margins have been challenged due largely to inflated feed costs. Dairy cow slaughter for the
week ended Nov 10 was the biggest in six weeks and 14% more than the five-year-weekly average. If this persists, it may equal curbed milk output and mitigated dairy product production this winter. Still, history points to lower cheese and butter prices in Dec. The five-year-average moves over the next four weeks for the CME block and butter markets are 13% and 10% lower respectively. Any price depreciation for cheese and butter this year could be tempered.

Pork Report
Pork- Pork output last week was 2.1% larger than the same week in '11. Pork production has increased this week
which may pressure pork prices lower in the near term. Sow slaughter for the week ended Nov 10 was the smallest for the week since '03. The USDA forecast of a decline in pork output during '13 may be overstated if sow slaughter rates continue to lag prior year levels. If realized, this could temper any seasonal pork market gains. The pork belly market typically remains steady during the next four weeks.

Poultry Report
Poultry- Conflicting data continues to raise questions on pending chicken production
levels. The broiler-type chick hatch in Oct was up 2% versus '11 suggesting stronger chicken output for Dec. Still, pullet placements, which measures new hens entering into the broiler hatchery flock, were down 1% in Oct versus '11. The hen hatchery flock during the first five months of next year is apt to be 3% smaller than '12. This could temper plans to expand chicken output during the first half of '13. The chicken breast markets have likely established a seasonal bottom. Chicken breast prices tend to remain steady during Dec before rising 7% in Jan. History points to jumbo-cut chicken wing prices moving up 9.5% over the next ten weeks.

Seafood Report
Seafood- U.S. Gulf of Mexico shrimp landings during Oct were 26% more than last year
and the best for the month in the last five years. Yet, current year U.S. Gulf of Mexico shrimp landings through Oct were 3.6% below a year ago. Because roughly 90% of the shrimp consumed in the U.S. is sourced internationally, a relatively deflated U.S. dollar could be somewhat supportive of the shrimp markets during the next few months.

Produce Report
Produce- The Yuma - Imperial Valley is now the key lettuce growing region.
Light weights, poor quality and solid demand have kept iceberg lettuce prices above '11 levels. Still, history suggests that the iceberg lettuce market may fall as the lettuce harvest improves next month. The mature green tomato markets remain elevated. Tomato shipments from FL last week were 27% less than '11 but are expected to increase soon as the tomato harvest expands. Fairly engaging mature green tomato prices may emerge in the coming weeks. Yellow onion prices tend to appreciate in Dec.
