INTRODUCTION
The Data Unit CU 24012/13, of which the abbreviation DIU2M will be used from now on, belongs to the channel units of the DYNACARD equipment family. These channel units are connected to the DYNA CARD equipment by means of an internal 2M bus. The DIU2M matches and connects the 64 kbit/s and 32 kbit/s connections defined by the user between the channel unit bus and the 2M interface, see Figure 1.

Alarms
The DIU2M unit has a common supervision block for both the unit faults and the 2M faults. The unit faults and 2M faults together reserve space for 26 faults in the fault supervision table of the DYNACARD MUX. 2M faults There are altogether twelve 2M faults to be supervised. Some of the fault consequences can be defined by the user. Table 2 shows the fault cat egories, the corresponding rack alarms, the service LED state, the effects on data and signalling bits and the states of far end alarm bits in the out put of the interface in question.

The 'Fault in Tx' alarm can be selected to be given in a situation, where, after the FAC3, 4 zeros are found in bits a-d in one of channels 1-15 of the outgoing signalling channel to the 2M direction. When the alarm se lection is active, the bits of the channel concerned are forced into state 0001 before transmission. The default setting is forced control without any alarm. Also enabling of signalling state abcd = 0000 on channels 1-15 can be selected (ADPCM usage).
Unit faults Table 3 shows the unit faults. Before the equipment main unit gives the unit the start up permission, the only fault indication given by the unit is Equipping error, which is indicated by the red LED.

Loopbacks
With respect to the 2M interface, equipment loopback (see Figure 3) can be performed in the unit. The loopback is performed via the service inter face. To ensure that the loopback is not left valid by mistake, it is released automatically after the time set for the controls has elapsed.

Number of Errors of the Error Ratio If, in the time of one second, more than 28 erroneous frame alignment words are detected (BER = 10-3), the second concerned is considered severely errored. If, in the time of one minute, at least 2 errors are de tected in the frame alignment word (BER = 1.12 x 10-6) or at least 123 CRC block errors (BER = 1.00 x 10-6), the minute is considered de graded (if CRC is in use, it is utilized in identifying the degraded minute). Statistics Display The menus obtained from the Service Terminal display the statistics con cerning the availability of the equipment. The statistics are based on calculation of the error ratio:
h h h h h h h h h
total time available time errored seconds BER > 10-3 seconds degraded minutes S(unav)/S(tot) S(err)/S(ava) S(sev)/S(ava) M(degr)/M(ava)
The total time and the available time are indicated in seconds. S(unav)/S(tot) indicates the ratio of the unavailable time to total time. S(err)/S(ava) indicates the ratio of errored seconds to the available time. S(sev)/S(ava) indicates the ratio of the severely errored seconds to the available time. M(degr)/M(ava) indicates the ratio of degraded minutes to the available time. Error Counters The error counters contain occurrences of various fault conditions de tected in the operation of the equipment:

Network Synchronization To prevent uncontrolled slips in the buffer memory of the DIU2M, the DIU2M signal and the Tx clock of the DYNACARD bus must be mesoch ronous (on an average of the same frequency) with regard to each other. A permanent difference in frequency causes a controlled slip so that a whole frame (one 8 kHz sample/64 kbit/s channel) is either left out or re peated. The slip interval is 256/df. Symbol df stands for the frequency difference of the 2 Mbit/s signals.

INTRODUCTION
This document describes the cable connections, installation into a car tridge and the necessary jumper settings of data units DIU2M (CU 24012, CU 24013). In the unit, the operating connections are made only to the connectors on the unit front edge. The back connector of the unit is intended for equip ment power supply and internal bus interface. Data unit interfaces are available either at one full length Euroconnector (CU 24012) or three coaxial connectors (CU 24013). Before installing the unit into a cartridge, check that the jumper settings conform to the interface type selected (see chapter 2). The data unit is installed in a subrack or cartridge meeting the TM4 Con struction Practice specifications. The data units are ready for use immedi ately after they have been installed in the cartridge and the signal cables have been connected. The general cabling instructions for the TM4 Con struction Practice and the connection instructions for the connectors are found in the Operating Handbook of the TM4 Construction Practice. For information on the connection of central battery voltages and rack alarms to the cartridges as well as the routing of signal cables, grounding, installation planning and work order, please refer to the Operating Hand book of the TM4 Construction Practice. NOTE Wrist grounding or other such protection should always be used when handling a plug in unit removed from its package.

Equipping
The connectors on the motherboard of the cartridge and subrack and the back connectors of the units have been standardized so that the same volt ages and rack alarm signals are always located at the same pins. There fore, any type of unit may be installed at any location in the cartridge. A data unit may be installed at any unit location in any TM4 cartridge which contains a MUX unit. The cartridge may house also other Nokia ND gen eration equipment. A data unit requires one unit location in the cartridge (width 5 T). Figure 3 shows an equipping example where three data units have been installed in a 20 T cartridge. 20 T cartridge

It is recommended to use Euroconnectors (1/4) and symmetrical pair cable for the cable connections in unit CU 24012 at both the 2048 kbit/s interface and the synchronization interface. One connector and a half of a pair cable are required for each interface. SMB coaxial cable and coaxial connectors are used for CU 24013 at both the 2048 kbit/s interface and the synchronization interface. When connecting the cables, the sheath of the received signal can be grounded or left ungrounded. The required jumper settings must also be made on the unit. Grounding leads to the equipment ground. For recommendations on cables and connectors suitable for balanced cabling and for work instructions, please refer to the OperatingHandbook of the TM4 Construction Practice.

Through this interface, equipment state and alarm data are read, controls and settings are given, loopbacks are ordered, etc. If the service interfaces have been linked to each other to compose a bus and the buses have been further linked as a service network by means of a data channel, all equipment connected to the bus or network can be con trolled remotely from one point using the Service Terminal, (DN 2/) DB 2 Manager or the Transmission Management System TMS (See Trans mission Management System TMS, Operating Handbook). A DIU description Operation with Service Terminal included in this book presents the service menus obtained from the unit and describes their use. The Service Terminal is provided with a separate Operating Handbook. The data unit is ready to operate after its installation into a cartridge con taining the DYNACARD MUX unit (DM 2, DB 2 or DN 2), and the con nection of signal cables. Before commissioning, however, identifications and settings should be verified, the required changes in the factory set tings should be made and the statistics and error counters should be reset. No commissioning measurements are necessary. Unit settings Service Terminal selection 6,9,u,0 displays the settings for the synchroniz ation output, MUX selections, 2M interface and control time out. Default settings (6,9,u,1) The default settings are the following:
h h
synchronization output interface: MUX settings: h Tx CLK h Fixed TS delay 2M interface settings: h CRC h TS0 data channel h TS0 bits B4-B8 h BER-3 fault consequence
h h h
Tx BUS CLK MUX Tx CLK Not in use In use Not in use permanent '1' A+S alarms, AIS into chan nels, B3 and B6 to the far end S alarm S alarm No alarm
h h h h h h h

TS allocation (6,9,u,2) Bidirectional allocations (6,9,u,2,1) The time slot allocations between the 2048 Mbit/s interface and the chan nel unit bus in the unit can be given either as individual allocations or as groups of successive time slots. When n x 64 kbit/s connections are made, the restrictions given in Functional Description, in Chapter 4.2 (Channel specific delays) shall be taken into consideration. Special allocation types (6,9,u,2,3) It is possible to define unidirectional 32 kbit/s or 64 kbit/s channel alloca tions by special allocation alternatives:
h h h h h h
allocation from bus to 2M interface allocation from 2M interface to bus loop to 2M interface loop to bus Fixed data to 2M interface Fixed data to bus
Display (6,9,u,2,0) The selection displays all the allocation data grouped in different types. The unactivated allocations queuing for a time slot in the bus are pro vided with letters NC. The unactivated time slot allocations are also dis played on the fault display of the main unit (TOP 1). Remove all allocations (6,9,u,2,8) Removes all time slot allocations and reservations of unit u on the bus. Reserved TS:s on BUS (6,9,u,2,9) Displays, in addition to time slots allocated for unit u, also the ones re served by the other channel units.
2M settings (6,9,u,5) TS0 bits, data channel (6,9,u,5,3,1) Taking a data channel into use simultaneously in several DIU2M units calls for program version 03A (or newer) and unit version 04A (or newer) in all units concerned. When the DM 2 MUX is used, the selection 6,1,8,3 or 6,1,8,4 must be made in it. Use of 2M interface (6,9,u,5,6,0,Used) The interface may be removed from use e.g. in the installation stage. The interface is then excluded from the fault supervision of the equipment and AIS is connected to the defined time slots. DIU2M statistics (8,9,u) The statistics concerning the signal quality and the error counters are reset when the equipment is commissioned:
h h h
Statistics resetting (8,9,u,1,1) Reset 2M error counters (8,9,u,2,5) CPU reset counter resetting (8,9,u,3,1).
This ensures that compilation of statistics and counting of errors is began at the commissioning.
MAINTENANCE
The equipment does not require periodic maintenance. Servicing is re quired only when faults are indicated by alarms. Detailed information on the state of the equipment and on the type of fault can be obtained by the Service Terminal. Information on the condition of the equipment and the signal quality is obtained also from internal measurements and statistics. The measure ment results and statistics are read using the Service Terminal. The Service Terminal may also be used to invoke tests and loops which may be required for troubleshooting.

Figure 1
Interpretation of Alarms on Equipment Level The red service LED is turned on to indicate a serious fault in the equip ment, which will usually have to be replaced by a new one. The red service LED, the red rack alarm lamp and programmable alarm output PA1 are activated by means of an external auxiliary voltage. The yellow service LED usually indicates a fault in the signal received by the equipment. The alarm may also be caused by an activated service pro cedure (e.g. loopback or forced indication) in the equipment. The equip ment indicating the fault is not necessarily faulty itself, the fault may be also in the far end equipment or in the signal cables. The green service LED is lit when the equipment is being controlled by the Service Terminal. Interpretation of Alarms on Unit Level The logic section of a DIU2M unit can be superficially checked by observ ing the service LEDs.
h
When the red LED is lit, the fault is in the unit. Note! In connection with a power supply failure, the red LED is lit although the fault were outside the unit. The yellow LED indicates an equipment level fault. The green LED is lit when the unit is accessed via the service interfa ce by means of the Service Terminal.

Fault Location
In fault conditions, it is possible that several units simultaneously indicate the same fault because the effects of the fault spread along the signal path. Usually the equipment which detects the fault will, however, send the AIS to prevent alarms in the other units. They will instead indicate the AIS. If the fault cannot be located by the equipment alarms and the fault mess ages obtained by the Service Terminal, equipment and interface loop backs, testing of the signal path in the equipment and memory tests may prove useful. NOTE Loops and signal path tests will disrupt the communication. If the loops are not cancelled, they will remain active for the preset control time.
3.4
Performance Measurements
Since the equipment collects data on the signal quality and any faults that occur, and indicate the faults by alarms, very few performance tests con ducted with external measuring instruments are necessary. Measure ments may, however, be performed if desired. The operating voltages may be measured and the results read with the Service Terminal. If the operating voltages deviate from the recom mended values, it is advisable to have the equipment inspected. The volt ages are permitted to deviate by 5 % from their nominal values.

GENERAL
The Data Unit is controlled by the Service Terminal, the use of which is described in the Operating Handbook of Service Terminal TC 21700. By means of the Service Terminal, the basic settings of the equipment can be performed and stored into the permanent storage (replaces jumper set tings), maintenance related measures, e.g. loopbacks, can be taken, and identifications, statistics, etc. can be read from the equipment.

Command parameter separator The Service Terminal functions are menu based. The menu levels can be by passed if the user knows the required command strings. The key <,> is used as a command parameter separator. For example, if 5,9,3,2,3 is given from the main level, the outgoing 2048 kbit/s signal of the 2M inter face of the data unit is looped back to the equipment, i.e., equipment loopback is performed. In the previous example, the unit is installed in unit location 3.
Fault display
The fault display indicates the fault condition of the equipment. The fault data indicates:
h h h h
equipment ID (e.g. DM 2 ABC) fault category (A, B, D, S or combination of these) supervision block indicating the fault fault type
The equipment ID is given by the user in the Identifications menu. Fault display does not concern a single unit but the entire equipment. 2 Local alarm cancel
In a fault condition, selection Local alarm cancel cancels rack alarms A and B. As a reminder of cancellation, alarm D is given. Cancelling an alarm without a fault condition produces also alarm B. Local alarm can cel concerns the entire equipment. 3 Reset local cancel
Identifications
Under this function, the equipment identifying data, such as equipment type, the name given and the type and version of the program used, can be read. Some of the identifications can be changed by the user. 5 Controls (temporary)
Controls are functions (loopbacks, forced alarms, etc.) required for troubleshooting and servicing of the equipment. All controls are removed automatically after a set supervision period, with the exception of the se lection of signal to the MEAS output. 6 Settings (permanent)
Settings determine the operating mode of the equipment. They are stored in the equipment storage also during a power outage. 7 Measurements
Under this function, various measurements made by the equipment itself are performed (without external measuring instruments). 8 Statistics
Automatic tests performed by the equipment itself. 10 User privileges The protective functions of the equipment are under this function. Some of the equipment functions (e.g. Settings) can be protected. The equip ment can be given a password that must be known if protected functions are to be changed. A single unit has no protective functions of its own. 11 Miscellaneous This category covers the functions not included in the above entries (not yet in use).
Access to Data Unit Since the Data Unit is not provided with a direct service interface, the Service Terminal functions must be directed to the Data Unit via the main unit (DYNACARD MUX). First, the main level menu (4...9) is selected, then 9 separated by a comma and finally the unit number u: 4...9,9,u. The unit numbering starts from 1 on the left. By entering the command given above, the menu of the unit concerned, below the main level, is ac cessed.
4.1
Fault Display
The main unit collects the fault data from other units into a common fault storage. In the initialization stage, the main unit collects from each unit the fault related data: the faults of the unit, their effect on the alarm out puts, the fault code related with each fault, how the fault is indicated (col our of indicator) and name of the supervision block. The main unit gener ates a response to the fault inquiry. The response contains the following data:
h h h
equipment ID (equipment name) fault status fault data: h fault object h fault type (fault code)
Example:
*DM 2 ABC (AS) MUX 2M unit 1: - frame alignment lost DIU2M unit 3: - no incoming 2M
In the above example, the equipment is provided with the name DM 2 ABC and it indicates alarms A and S. The fault indications come from the main unit equipment interface supervision block (unit 1), the fault being loss of frame alignment, and from the supervision block of the data unit (unit 3), the fault being the missing incoming 2048 kbit/s signal. The data unit has a common supervision block (DIU2M) for both the 2M interface (2M faults) and the other parts of the unit (unit faults).

6,9,u,5,4,1
By selection 0 (6,9,u,5,4,1,0) the consequences defined for a BER-3 fault are displayed. Selection 1 (6,9,u,5,4,1,1), default setting, causes alarms A and S to be generated and AIS to be connected to channels to indicate the detected fault condition. Alarm bits B3 and B6 are sent to the far end. By selection 2 (6,9,u,5,4,1,2) a BER-3 fault causes alarm A but the re ceived signal still goes to the channels. This selection could be used when a very poor transmission path is to be utilized and it is to be ensured that the outages in the multiplex equipment are prolonged as little as possible. Selection 3 (6,9,u,5,4,1,3) differs from the previous one in that the fault only causes alarm B. Selection 4 (6,9,u,5,4,1,4) causes the error ratio >1E-3 to have no conse quences. It is not seen even on the equipment fault display.
6,9,u,5,4,2
By selection 0 (6,9,u,5,4,2,0) the alarm consequences of a far end alarm (FEA) fault caused by alarm bit TS0/B3 are displayed. By selection 1 (6,9,u,5,4,2,1) a default setting is made. The alarm received from the far end causes alarm S to be generated, which means that the services of the equipment are not available due to a fault detected in the far end. Selection 2 (6,9,u,5,4,2,2) causes alarm B, in addition to alarm S, to be generated as the result of a far end alarm. Selection 3 (6,9,u,5,4,2,3) causes alarm A, in addition to alarm S, to be generated as a result of the far end alarm. The selection is used when the far end station is not supervised, the supervision being performed via the near end. 6,9,u,5,4,3 AIS alarm consequences
AIS alarm consequences: 0 Display 1 *S alarm 2 B+S alarm
By selection 0 (6,9,u,5,4,3,0) the fault consequence set for the AIS signal is displayed. By selection 1 (6,9,u,5,4,3,1) a default setting is made. An identified AIS signal causes alarm S only; the fault has already been detected some where else. By selection 2 (6,9,u,5,4,3,2) the alarm classification is changed from nor mal so that the AIS causes alarm B, in addition to alarm S, to be gener ated.

Memory tests: 1 RAM 2 EPROM 3 EEPROM
Selection 1 (9,9,u,5,1) tests the RAM memory circuit of the DIU2M unit processor environment. The lower one of the responses given below indi cates that a fault has been detected:
RAM OK
RAM # OK
Selection 2 (9,9,u,5,2) starts the EPROM memory test in the DIU2M unit. As a response to the selection, a text indicating the duration of the test (10 sec) is obtained. When the test is running, the yellow service LED is lit and the A and S alarm are active. The result is obtained by starting the test again. The lower one of the responses given below indicates that a fault has been detected.
EPROM OK
EPROM # OK
Selection 3 (9,9,u,5,3) starts the EEPROM memory test in the DIU2M unit. As a response to the selection, a text indicating the duration of the test (10 min) is obtained. When the test is running, the yellow service LED is lit and the A and S alarm are active. The test does not disturb the oper ation of the unit. The result is obtained by starting the test again. The lower one of the responses given below indicates that a fault has been de tected.
EEPROM OK
EEPROM # OK

Memory operations
Memory operations: 1 Read byte 2 Write byte in RAM 3 Read 8 bytes 4 Write byte in EEPROM
When data is to be written into some memory location, selection 2 (9,9,u,6,2) is made. After the selection, a text prompting for memory ad dress is obtained:
Give memory addr.: 0...65535
When the memory address has been entered, a text prompting for write data is obtained:
Give byte value: 0...255
When several bytes are to be read simultaneously, selection 3 (9,9,u,6,3) is made. After the selection, a text prompting for the address of the first byte is obtained:
Give memory addr.: 0...65535
When data is to be written into an EEPROM memory location, selection 4 (9,9,u,6,4) is made:
Give EEPROM offset: 0...511
After the address has been entered, a text prompting for data is obtained:
Give byte value: 0...255
