IT Strategy

Course Outline

1) MODULE AIMS & OBJECTIVES In the present day context, Information Technology Strategy is playing very vital role especially in real life projects. This subject explores the concepts and activities involved in developing and delivering IT value to an organization. The entire IT process must be managed from conception to cash. Aligning IT strategy with business strategy will position organizations to respond to rapidly changing business environment. Sourcing has become an integral part of many IT organizations. As a result, sourcing is changing the way IT work is done. New laws and regulations have had a significant impact on IT. IT managers are struggling to implement new controls to support these regulations. This course dwells on fundamentals that one must learn in order to pursue virtually any endeavor in IT field. The course will enable you get equipped with solid fundamentals so as to join the existing field of Information Technology. The course starts with the basics of IT Strategy and its importance to business and also gives an overview of the emerging technologies, about which the future mangers should be well aware before going ahead into the corporate arena. In addition to subject specific knowledge, the students will have the opportunity to further develop the following key skills: Written Communication Skills Planning, Organizing and Time Management Case Solving and analysis Using Initiative Presentation Skills

2) DELIVERY MECHANISMS The module will be delivered through a series of lectures, case studies, assignments and guided reading. 3) STUDENT WORKLOAD In addition to attending the scheduled sessions, undertaking preparation for them, and completing assignments, students are expected to undertake independent reading and learning. It is expected that students should read the recommended readings prescribed in detailed syllabus before attending the class 4) EVALUATION CRITERIA The assessment or performance in the course will be evaluated through various modes which are as follows: Mode Quiz Assignment Class Participation Case Study Presentation Weightages (%) 5% 10% 5% 20%

Attendance
It is mandatory for students to be regular and punctual in all the classes without exception. Absence without prior permission of the Dean will be considered a serious breach of discipline. The faculty may administer make-up tests/assignments only to those students who remained absent with prior permission. The faculty will reduce the grade point for low attendance as under. Attendance Range 90 -100% 80 - 90% 70 - 79% 60 - 69% Grade Reduction No Grade Loss Less: One Grade Point Less: Two Grade Points Repeat Course

Faculty member will submit the final grade of students to the Deans Office on completion of the course after adjusting for Grade losses as a result of Absence from class.

4.1) Quiz There will be surprise quizzes during any of the scheduled session in 12 weeks. The marks of each quiz will be added and final percentage will be calculated on the basis of aggregate scored. 4.2) Assignment Each student has to submit 2-3 assignments. The assignments have to be completed individually. Performance in the assignment for the elective will be judged against the following criteria: Relevance to question Structure/presentation & clarity of writing Scope & relevance of theory Rigour of argument Evidence of understanding Conclusions/Recommendations

4.3) Class participation It has a weightage of 5% in each course. Faculty will spend about 10-15 minutes at the start of every class quizzing about 4-5 students and grading him/her immediately. 4.4) Case Study Presentation There will be 2-3 presentation of total 20% weightage for the concept and exercises to be discussed in this elective. 4.5) Exam:

One mid term and one end term examination will be administered. The examination questions will test the conceptual understanding. Under no circumstances re-mid term examination will be held. The mid term is scheduled in the 6th week. End term examination will be conducted in the 12th week. Institutions examination policy will be strictly adhered. 4.6) Attendance Policy: As this is an interactive class, learning depends upon attendance. A portion of your participation grade may be determined by attendance. 4.7) Plagiarism: Institutional defines plagiarism in the regulations on instructional offences as: to use and pass off as ones own idea or product work of another without expressly giving credit to another. Borrowing someone elses answer, unauthorized possession of test or answers to tests, or possessions of material designed to help answer examination questions, are also subject to our policy regarding instructional offences. 5) FACULTY-STUDENT COMMUNICATION Faculty will communicate with you via announcements during scheduled sessions, emails, and the intranet. You should check your e-mail regularly, ideally once a day. You should also check regularly the module entry on intranet, where lecture material and other module information will be posted. If you need to meet faculty during term time, you can simply go to their offices, where a prior appointment is not needed. If you cannot do so because of timetable constraints, or because it is an urgent matter, you can arrange to see faculty outside their consultation hours. The most effective way to arrange a meeting is by E-mail (pawan.kumar@kohinooor.ac.in); alternatively, you can use the telephone or more informally talk to faculty during teaching breaks. 6) MODULE SYLLABUS AND RECOMMENDED READING The following pages give details of topics covered by the module. Further information may be provided on intranet as the module progresses. Specific recommended reading and additional references for each topic will be distributed during the delivery of the module. Some pre-reading is enclosed herewith. You should also undertake your own search for additional relevant literature.
