site’s small footprint and a key reason
why Time Equities selected HRH Con-
struction as its general contractor, he adds.
The cantilevered shape of the building
allows for the upper floors to be wider,
which increases area space for the build-
ing’s ground-level plaza.
However, because the columns are
built on an angle to accommodate the
tower’s curved belly, it’s a complex pro-
cedure to execute. Johnson touts HRH
Construction for being uniquely quali-
fied for the job.
A New LEED
The 50 West Street project not only will
be a striking, upscale building destined
to be a New York landmark due to its
notable stature, but it also will be green,
Johnson says.
“We personally registered with the U.S.
Green Building Council well over a year
ago,” he says.

Time Equities created 50 West Street to
“provide something very special to the
downtown community,” Director of
Project Management Dermot Johnson

plement the unique style of living in
Battery Park City and provide [quality]
services to the people who live and work
in downtown Manhattan.”
Levels one through 15 of the 65-story

races for the residences, a residents’
lounge, a media room, bicycle storage,
a billiards room, an indoor pool and
steam room, and Wi-Fi technology.
