October 31, 2012 Dear Hiring Manager, As a soon to be college graduate from Appalachian State University, with a degree in Public Relations, I am highly motivated to start my career. While completing my degree, I have held leadership positions and maintained a high GPA that has put me on the deans list multiple semesters and allowed me to be a member of Lambda Pi Eta, The National Communication Association Honors Society. Throughout my public relations major, I have demonstrated my ability to work effectively in teams by using my leadership skills to produce a communication plan for the Blue Ridge Conservancy and an internal communication public relations campaign for the Western Youth Network. Additionally, while being a full-time student I was selected to be the public relations intern for Daniel Boone Native Gardens for which I organized and budgeted a campaign for their largest charitable event. Also, my experience as the marketing intern for the CEO of a marketing research company, AllPoints, increased my ability to work independently, ask for help when needed, and proactively research marketable information for clients in the pharmaceutical and animal health industries. During my college career I have developed a strong knowledge and understanding of communication as well as demonstrated my excellent written and oral communication skills. Also I have consistently paid attention to detail, formed a strong background in conducting research, and acquired time management skills. Likewise, as a member of Chi Omega, I was nominated by 120 members to hold a leadership position. Being the Social Chair for my organization was a great learning experience that required responsibility and dedication. While holding the leadership position, I coordinated social events with multiple organizations and developed professional relationships. Throughout the experience I acquired a stronger passion for communication and demonstrated my understanding of public relations through coordinating events. In addition to my leadership opportunity, I was also one of two students selected by the chair of the communication department at Appalachian State to attend the WITHIT conference this past summer. WITHIT is a womens leadership development network in the home and furnishing industries. As a public relations student at the conference, I was able to network and enhance my knowledge of leadership. Being selected to attend was an honor. I thank you for your consideration and it would be an honor to work for your company. With my public relations and marketing experience, I feel I would be a beneficial candidate for this position. I will be glad to provide you with any additional information that you may need to complete the hiring process. Thank you again for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Elizabeth Terrell (336) 782-1960 terrellae@appstate.edu
