TurboCool New coupling to control engine driven compressor fans

New speed control solution to increase efficiency and availability of compressor package fans

Voith Turbo has developed a new coupling to adapt fan speed to temperature conditions.

The benets of speed variation include:

Higher efciency Noise reduction Reduced maintenance (no fan pitch changes needed) Protection of fan drive during sudden engine stops Excellent torsional dampening CO2 reduction Reduce freeze-ups and overheating

Noise reduction, reduction of freeze-ups and overheating Higher availability of your compressor

Noise Reduction

The solution is based on a Voith Turbo ll-controlled coupling to regulate fan speed and therefore provide adjustable cooling of the gas compressor package.

Retrot for Existing Rigs

Fan drive line protection; no mechanical connection between input and output Control fan speed to provide optimum cooling throughout the entire ambient temperature range; reduce cooler freeze-ups and overheating

The compact design of the TurboCool allows for easy retrot on existing packages.

The noise level drops signicantly with lower fan speed. Speed adapation of the fan allows for greater exibility for installations in noise sensitive areas. Nighttime operation due to noise reduction now possible. Based on average annual temperatures, fan noise reduction of 10 to 20 dBA or higher are possible.
Fan Driveline Protection

Reduced Maintenance

Re-pitching of fan blades not required No replacement of fan hub and blades caused by sudden engine stops Considerably higher service life for V-belt drives

Sudden engine shut downs create high stress levels in the fan drive line. The Voith TurboCool provides a soft connection between the engine and the fan and signicantly reduces the torque spikes created from these sudden engine stops.

Increased protability Lower emissions

Reduced CO2 Emissions

Economics & Emissions

Speed adaptation not only provides higher exibillity but also impressive power savings. This means: Higher productivity of the compressor package by improving fan operation. Up to 3.5% additional engine power is available for compression.

The energy saved from improved fan operation may be used for

direct fuel savings (and CO2 emission reduction)

Additional gas production if the compression process can be adjusted to take advantage of the increase in available engine power. Signicant incremental revenues are possible.

Function & Features

The TurboCool is a hydrodynamic ll controlled coupling. It is located between motor and fan. The output speed of the coupling can be varied steplessly based on monitoring several key package parameters and adjusting the instrument gas or compressed air input media between 0 - 15 psi (0 - 1 bar).

The drive system provides following features: No additional power necessary, just signal cables Speed control depending on temperatures Coupling control implemented in the compressor package PLC
