First Grade News

December 10-14, 2012


What were learning
Our Bible stories for this week are Jesus Appears in Glory and Jesus Comforts His Disciples. We will be reading Trucks and Communities in our basal reading books. Our phonics focus this week is the th digraph and short u sound. Math will include adding 2 to a number, a written test, and sorting pattern blocks. In writing we are working on adding adjectives to make our writing sparkle. We will continue working on our Christmas Program for this Saturday.

Monday: Read Christ Light A Jesus Appears in Glory Read Trucks Tuesday: Memory Work: Christmas recitation (So Joseph also went up from the town

of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.)
Practice Math Facts Wednesday: Read Christ Light B Jesus Comforts His Disciples Read Communities Thursday: Memory Work: Christmas recitation (Everything that was written in the

past was written to teach us, so that through Scriptures we might have hope.)
Spelling Test (bath, math, path, that, thin, with, then, the Bonus: thick, this) Here are some options for challenging your child: Christ Light Read and act out the Christmas story from Luke 2. Writing Make a Happy Birthday card for Jesus using complete sentences. Math Count by 2s all the way to 100.

Important Notes

Tuesday, December 11th is our field trip to Vasona Creek Health Care Center! We will be leaving school at 9:00 an will return before lunch. Let me know if you have any questions about details. Thanks! Our 1st grade Christmas Party will be on December 20th. We will have a Christmas lunch at 11:30, recess, then cookie decorating and a gift exchange. I will be sending home a list where you may sign up to bring food items if you like. Please return the form by Thursday, December 13th. The students will be exchanging gifts for our party. Please purchase a gift in the $6-$8 range. Girls should buy a girl gift, and boys should buy a boy gift. Please put who the gift is from on the outside of the package. Please have the gifts at school anytime before Dec. 20th. At the party we will pick names to see who gets each gift. Our Childrens Christmas Program is Saturday, December 15th. Your child will be participating in both the 4 and 5:30 p.m. services. Please have your child meet in the first grade classroom between 3:40 and 3:45. The first graders will be sitting as a class on the far right pews in the church. The students will come back to the first grade classroom after the first service, before the second for a snack. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks!
