I.Summary K12 in the Philippines: A Reform or Deform?

The Philippine education system pursues the achievement of excellent undergraduates in elementary and secondary level. At present, the Department of Education pronounces the addition of two more years in the basic education of students, which according to them will benefit not only the Filipino youth but all the Filipinos in the Philippines. This proposal is part of P-noy s Educational Reform Program. The administration asserts that will the implementation of such program; the problem of unemployment in the country will be resolved. In as much as employment in the Philippines is concerned, the K12 education also responds to the fact that most countries in the world already have the same plan in their educational institutions. With this, the standards of these countries go a notch higher done what the country has, thus, creating an expansion in the global competency. One of the main problems in the Philippines which the government needs to resolve is the lack of school and classrooms in the different parts of the country. It is important that students stay in a place that is conducive for study while they are away from home. In addition, with teachers go abroad to teach, or do another job, there is already a shortage of educators in schools that molds the mind of learners. And this deficiency has become a problem in the country for the past several years. Finally, there is a need for the students to utilize the appropriate instructional materials and school equipment for them to learn and gain the necessary knowledge in the school. This lack of accessibility in books and other school supplies clearly manifest the scarcity in the public schools in the country. There is nothing wrong in aiming the other fraction of a horizon, and that is what the government attempts to accomplish. It is in fact an indication to aspire for smoothing higher, one must carry out certain actions to achieve the

goal. However, the administration also ought to realize and clearly understand what the educational system in the Philippines needs to develop primarily. II. Advantages The enhanced of k-12 Basic Education Program in the Philippines has been officially started. This program aims to uplift the quality of education in the Philippines in order for graduates to be easily employed. The program also aims to meet the standards required for professionals who want to work abroad. And the most important, the system aims to fully enhance and develop the students in order for them to be well prepared especially in emotional and cognitive aspects. Furthermore, it will help students to become globally competitive and will definitely attain our most aspired educational standards which will play a great role in our country s development and will therefore uplift us from poverty. Disadvantages There are a lot of consequences problems that would trigger to implement this K-12 education in the Philippines. One of the main problems which the governments needs to resolve is the lack of school and classrooms in the different parts of the country, lack of accessibility in books and other school supplies. And some parents are complaining of the additional years of education, because of the additional expenses as it is an undeniable fact that wowed requires them more budgets, not only for the parents but also for the government as well. And the most obvious consequence that would come up in implementing this k-12 is the gap of the 2 year lag in college. And this would consider several concerns. III. Suggestions/ Recommendations Implementing this k-12 Basic Education Program enhances and develops students prepared themselves emotionally and cognitive aspects. However, our government must also consider some problems, consequences that will

encounter both the implementing factor and the recipient. The public has not been made so very aware of the costs and the benefits in implementing this program. The context of this program is not very well known to the public. And the teacher should be made aware of what kind of curriculum will be given to the learner and will take too much time to plan some strategic approach to rule out some implications as to the very principle and aligned to exist the international standards of this program.
