BRIEF 1: CURIOUS EATS

01/05 BRANDING FOR PACKAGING

THE BRIEF This is a design based brief to rebrand and create a visual idendity for an organic food company called Curious Eats. I designed a range of packaging for the different foods that are going to be sold. BACKGROUND Curious Eats is a small, Shropshire based business run by George Cavendish, a proffessionally trained chef. All the ingredients he uses have been locally sourced or grown himself. He believes that good quality food shouldnt cost a fortune. DELIVERABLES I designed a set of three logos, a visual idendity, and a range of packaing for each section of the brand; Curious Eats, Curious Meats and Curuious Treats.

IDENDITY

LOGO The typefaces used in the logo are; for Curious I used Champigonon, and for Eats I used Helvetica Neue, light. IDENDITY The idendity represents the curious and slightly exotic ingredients in the products. I designed the logo so it was a combination of being sophisticated, traditional and modern. I divided the brand into three sections according to the types of food and named them; eats, meats and treats. I chose three bright gradients for the sections, to make the logo stand out. BUSINESS CARDS The range of three colours have been printed on off white, matte stock and mounted on black card. I used light brown for the text as I felt black was too harsh, and it worked well with the colour and texture of the stock. LETTERHEADS A4 format. These are printed on the same stock as the business cards.

CURIOUS EATS PACKAGING

PACKAGING I chose three different shaped jars for the Piccalilli Jelly, Fig and Cranberry Chutney, and Watermelon Pickle. I wanted to keep the packaging the same style throughout the brand range. The colours I chose were similar or the same as the ingredients so the flavours could be easily deciphered. SPECIFICATIONS The labels have been printed on sticker material and stuck directly to the jars. The logo sticker on the lid of the jar has been printed on the same stock. The information card has been printed on a matte card stock. The bags have been printed on an A2 size thick, white, matte stock to give a crisp, clean, high quality feel and finish. Typefaces; Gill Sans and Trajan Pro.

CURIOUS MEATS PACKAGING

PACKAGING I wanted the meat packaging to have a more natural, organic feel to it. I chose a brown stock to make the packaging stand out, and printed the logos on the nets for a slightly alternative salami and chroizo packaging design. I felt this would contrasted well with a white strip label. SPECIFICATIONS The packaging nets are printed on brown card stock. I have used two different stocks for the wrap around labels. I used a rough, matte, off white stock for a rustic effect, organic effect for one design. The other labels are printed on sticker stock to give a high quality resolution. The bags have been printed on an A2 size thick, white, matte stock to give a crisp, clean, high quality feel and finish. Typefaces; Gill Sans and Trajan Pro

CURIOUS TREATS PACKAGING

PACKAGING I designed three nets for Brandy filled truffles, Kings Ginger Liqueur filled truffles, and Damson Gin filled truffles. I chose colours that were similar to the ingredients and kept the packaging size small. SPECIFICATIONS I used a gloss stock to give the packaging a high quality finish. The bags have be printed on an A2 size thick, white, matte stock to give a crisp, clean, high quality feel and finish. Typefaces; Gill Sans and Trajan Pro
