The Sea-It-Srv1 server is currently the only DHCP server that configures DHCP clients on the 192.168.10.0/24 subnet.

It has a scope that distributes addresses between 192.168.10.51 and 192.168.10.250. To provide DHCP fault tolerance for the 192.168.10.0/24 subnet, you plan to use Sea-ItSub2 DHCP server (located on subnet 192.168.2.0/24). The Sea-It-Sub2 server should be able to supply up to 20 percent of the addresses currently distributed by the Sea-It-Srv1 server. Your task in this lab is to: On the Sea-It-Sub2 server, create a scope named Building 1 (include the space between "Building" and "1"). For the address range use 192.168.10.51 to 192.168.10.250. On the Sea-It-Sub2 server, create an exclusion for addresses 192.168.10.51 to 192.168.10.210 (this means Sea-It-Sub2 will assign addresses between 192.168.10.211 and 192.168.10.250). On the Sea-It-Sub2 server, activate the new scope. On the Sea-It-Srv1 server, create an exclusion for addresses 192.168.10.211 to 192.168.10.250.

Note: DHCP has already been installed on Sea-It-Sub2. The same scope should exist on both the main DHCP server (Sea-It-Srv1) and the backup DHCP server (Sea-It-Sub2). However, because the backup DHCP server exists on a different subnet, it should only provide 20 percent of the addresses (and exclude the other 80 percent), while the main DHCP server should provide 80 percent of the addresses (and exclude the other 20 percent). Complete the following general steps to configure the DHCP solution for this lab: 1. Create the Building 1 (include the space between "Building" and "1") scope on Sea-It-Sub2 for addresses 192.168.10.51 to 192.168.10.250. Exclude addresses 192.168.10.51 to 192.168.10.210. 2. Activate the scope. 3. Add the Sea-It-Srv1 server to the DHCP console. 4. Create an exclusion on Sea-It-Srv1 for addresses 192.168.10.211 to 192.168.10.250. Following are the steps an expert might use to complete this lab.

Create a Scope
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. Choose Start/Administrative Tools/DHCP. Expand the DHCP server. Right-click the protocol for which you wish to create the scope and choose New Scope.... Click Next to start the New Scope wizard. Name the scope, then click Next. Type a start IP address and an end IP address. Set the subnet mask by typing the mask value (example: 255.255.255.0) or typing the number of subnet mask bits (example: 24) in the Length field. Click Next. Type the starting and ending IP address for any exclusions. (Note: To exclude a single address, type the start address but leave the end address blank.) Click Add. Click Next when you have defined all required exclusions. Configure the lease duration. Click Next. Select the No, I will configure these options later option to postpone configuring other DHCP options, then click Next. Click the Finish button to close the wizard and create the scope.

If you do not configure additional options, you must manually activate the scope.

Activate a Scope
Before the new DHCP server will distribute addresses for a scope, you must activate the scope. To activate a scope: 1. Choose Start/Administrative Tools/DHCP. 2. Browse to and select the scope. 3. Right-click the scope and choose Activate.

Add a DHCP Server to the Console


By default, not every DHCP server on the network appears in the management console. You can add other servers to the console to work with their configuration. 1. In the DHCP management console, right-click the top node and choose Add Server... from the drop-down menu. 2. You can select the server you want to add in one of the following ways: o Type the name or IP address of the server. o Click Browse and select the server from a list. o If the server you want to manage is an authorized server, select the "This authorized DHCP server" option and select the server from the list. 3. Click OK

Create an Exclusion Range


1. Choose Start | Administrative Tools | DHCP to open the DHCP snap-in. Click Continue as necessary. 2. Browse to and expand the appropriate protocol. 3. Expand the Scope folder. 4. Right-click the Address Pool node and choose New Exclusion Range.... 5. Enter the starting and ending IP addresses. To exclude a single IP address, leave the ending address blank. Click Add. 6. Click Close to close the Add Exclusion Range dialog.
