Helping Your Aviation Career Dreams Take Flight

Five Tough Questions You Should Ask Before Investing in an Aircraft Type Rating

Five Hard Questions You Should Ask Before Investing in Advanced Flight Training.
We share your passion for aviation, and have created this ebook to help you determine the best options to pursue your career as an airline captain.

Here are the five toughest questions that are on the minds of pilots dreaming

1) How much is it really going to cost to achieve my objectives? What is included in the Advanced Flight Training program? 2) How long will it take?

of a career as a captain or first officer.

Can some of the training be done off-site to reduce the total cost of the program?

3) How do I qualify for advanced flight training? What records do I need? How can I get assistance with these documents?

This ebook will help you answer them, and the checklist will help you evaluate each training provider.

4) How do I know which program is the best for me? What should I look for in instructors? What should I look for in facilities, equipment and simulators? What does the FAA Part 142 Certification mean?

5) Will you help me find a job? Does the school provide interview training Does the school provide resume/job search assistance? 6) Checklist To use as you evaluate training opportunities. On the following pages, youll find the answers to these questions. You may have others. Well help you find those answers as well. Page 1

Question One
Finances can be a key consideration for advanced flight training.

How Much Will it Cost to Achieve My Objectives? Answer Be sure to use the checklist at the end of this ebook as you compare costs from other providers. This will help you make sure you are doing a complete comparison. Be sure to consider:

Some training organizations may quote a low price, but will not tell you their program leaves out Professional Aviation necessary items. Photography Sells the aircraft It is important to look at the Emotionally whole picture of what you need to take your career to the next level.

Question Two How Long Will My Training Take? Answer Of course it would be great to be able to start applying for captain or first officer jobs right away! But it is necessary to look at the total time required to complete your training, particularly when you have other time commitments to consider. Also consider how long you will need to spend on-site at the training location.

Can some of the training be done off-site to reduce the total cost of the program?
Reducing the total number of days youre away from home makes it less expensive, and may also reduce the amount of time you spend away from your present job or other obligations
The Distant Learning Program is an interactive computer based training system that helps you learn key concepts in the comfort of your own home or on any computer. Some of our programs enable you to study at home for part of the course. This works to your advantage because reducing the total number of days youre away from home reduces the total cost of the program, and may also reduce the amount of time you spend away from your present job or other obligations.

Total Time PIC Time Jet Time Time in Multi-Engine Turbines Hours in the last 6 months Time in Aircraft Requiring Type Rating o o o PIC hours SIC hours Total

If you dont have jet or turbine time, we highly recommend (but do not require) a jet transition course. This short course covers flight physiology, multi-crew coordination, and jet theory.

A list of all turbine aircraft and hours A list of all certificates and type ratings held Multi-Crew Time Date of last instrument recurrency IFR hours flown within the last 6 months Date of last recurrency Date of last FAA flight physical

Proficient skills in instrument, multi-engine and jet or turbine aircraft before you arrive will help you succeed!

Question Four How do I Know Which Program is Best for Me? Answer Only you can answer this, but we can suggest that you choose the program that has the best instructors, the best facilities and equipment, the best location, and the right credentials.

Evaluating Instructors

Ideally, an instructor should be an excellent pilot with many years

of experience in the job you want pilot in command! They should also have all of the necessary ratings and have served in many positions along the way. Not all great pilots will be great instructors, however.

Look at your instructors total time in the aircraft you want to fly, as well as the positions they held at airlines and companies similar to the airlines you want to work for.

AeroStar is staffed by the airline industrys most experienced, highly qualified training personnel available. All of our instructors are veteran airline professionals. Each instructor is available to assist you with your training needs and is committed to your success with the course.

Evaluating Facilities and Equipment

Training with the latest equipment is important. The more current and accurate the software, computer environments, and full-motion simulators that you train with, the more comfortable you will be in the cockpit. Here are some of the options:

Computer-based training. Ensure the computer software creates a realistic cockpit experience, with every switch and control shown in the correct location. We use Aerosim, the latest state of the art flight training software. Students are able to use this computer environment for as much free-play as desired!

Imagine how much easier your training will be if you have unlimited free play time using a computer environment that creates a realistic cockpit experience, showing every switch and control in the correct location!

Full-motion simulators. Ensure the school has new, state-of-the-art simulators, and has enough of them to accommodate sufficient time per student. Aerostar has six state of the art simulators and five level 5 flight training devices to ensure each student receives sufficient time and experience.

Evaluating the Location of the Training Facility

You can reduce the amount of time you spend at the training facility by using AeroStars optional distant-learning program; but you will spend at least ten days with us and we want to ensure that you will find your time pleasant and productive. AeroStar Training Center is located at the Orlando International Airport. Because our students have a variety of tastes and budgets, we are always ready with suggestions of where to eat and where to stay depending on your circumstances. You can rent a car at the airport if youd like to explore the area, but most of our students find that excellent restaurants and shopping malls are available nearby and transportation is provided by the hotels we recommend. Here are some examples:

A pleasant location that has everything you need nearby will make your training more convenient and productive.

Hyatt Place- Orlando Airport Northwest 5435 Forbes Place, Orlando FL 32812 407-816-7800 Current rate per night - $65 Includes - Transportation and Continental Breakfast Marriott Courtyard Orlando Airport 7155 Frontage Road, Orland FL 32812 407-240-7200 Current rate per night - $68 Includes Transportation and Hot Breakfast Holiday Inn Express Orlando Airport 7900 Conway Rd, Orlando FL 32827 407-581-7900 Current rate per night - $59 Includes Transportation and Hot Breakfast

Evaluating the schools credentials

AeroStar is an FAA Certified 142 Training Center serving the needs of individuals seeking pilot certification training and aircraft type ratings on the Airbus A320, Boeing 737, and BBJ. We offer FAA approved initial type ratings, recurrent, upgrade and differences training. We also offer initial and recurrent flight attendant training.

What does a FAA Part 142 Certification mean?

WE offer FAA approved initial type ratings, recurrent, upgrade and differences training.
According to the FARs Part 142 Section 1 (5) (c ) . . . no person may conduct training, testing, or checking in advanced flight training devices or flight simulators without, or in violation of, the certificate and training specifications required by this part. Youll want to ensure the training you receive will count toward a legal, usable type rating.

Its also a great idea to get your type rating from a respected school. Since Aerostars instructors come from the airlines, your type rating will set you apart from other candidates.

What Our Students Say

After working for DHL Express for fourteen years flying the DC8, I was thrust into the current job market with no glass time but extensive experience in large aircraft. To make myself more marketable I was able to obtain my A320 type rating at your facility and it opened multiple opportunities and I am currently employed with a growing airline flying the A320. Not only did I get the type rating, but your training center was instrumental in working with the state of Ohio to obtain WIA training funds. Every one of your instructors was a pleasure to work with and the training facility that we used is state of the art. Thanks again. John Reavill _____________________

We enjoy hearing from students who have found success as captains and first officers.

My training with AeroStar was really good... The team was very professional and friendly... The instructors have good knowledge and a lot of patience that you do not find in a lot of training center... Simulators are brand new and one of the more important thing is we had good schedule because sometimes in some schools you have really late hours and really difficult to study.... I will just say that AeroStar is the place to go for your type or any kind of training because they are professional and friendly. Elhadji Thior _____________________

I am very satisfied with the training which I received at AeroStar. From the theory portion to the practical techniques, and knowledge level of the instructors, all experiences were top notch! JongCheul Park
