Lec 15 We can use token to exchange for tangible items, snacks etc & thus there are high

probability behavior. In the beginning the problematic behavior is occurring a lot but with the time when visual schedule is instilled, there is a dec in behavior .Without a visual schedule, the treatment is not effective. When baseline took place, the differential reinforcement and extinction was implemented, this leads to no behavior. After 20th session no behavior for Jimmy. Children with disability are at great disadvantage so we get them in efficacious program so they can become independent. Visual schedule itself was not so good at dec the problematic behavior however; it did dec when DRO and extinction was implemented. For some kids, visual schedules dont work. Betty doesnt work hard & spend less time studying. She watches TV and hangs out with friend most of the time. Now Betty is asking you to help her with her studying routine. How would you help her using DRO? Taking her I-phone and throw it out, take her in a quiet room or most effective is library We can ask her to engage in low probability behavior by making her engage in high probability behavior. This is called pre Mack principle. Tell her friends not to talk to her until she finishes study. Plug the remote so she cant watch TV (extinction + response effort-you have to make an effort to find the remote).

Chapter 16 You got a new treadmill- you want to walk on twenty to thirty minutes. You use antecedent procedure. You implement all the procedures you have learned in the class. Desirable behavior is walking on the treadmill. Identify how we can get somebody to work on it? Celvin drinks a lot of drink. He works in Florida (high temp) & he drinks 10 cans of soda per day. He is concerned about his health and he knows that he will gain fat. He wants to get them down to something reasonable. How could Kelvin use antecedent procedures to reduce the amount of cans per day? ACP based on functional assessment reinforcement. It do involve changing the environment, you need planning. It includes functional non aversive intervention, extinction and differential reinforcement. They do address consequences. Ex: In nursing home, how can we inc the social communication get going b/w the residents at the dinner table? Pple with more similar background can be seated together & see wht happen. Also we can have round table so there is more chance of interacting.

You dont floss regularly. Intervention -> Put floss where you can remember. You dont eat enough fruit at home ->Put fruit basket on a dinning table somewhere where its in ur visual space. You dont study effectively at home ->Study at the library. At home there is a lot of other thing that are taking your attention. Put yourself in an environment which is more effective. Customers children are disruptive -> have them go to play station build inside some restaurants (McDonalds) Present EO for desirable behavior. Ex: Not hungry at the dinner time > solution no snacking Having difficulty falling asleep and getting up late according to a Britain study, if you sleep more than or less than 7 hours, the mortality rate goes up. That might be bcz we like consistency (evolutionary speaking)-> solution is to inc your activity level so the sleep inc. Dec response effort for desirable behavior Ex: Office worker throw away paper in trash and dont recycle -> Put the recycle box right beside the desk. To inc the study behavior -> Keep bag pack on you all the time. So books are in your reach as oppose to in the locker. ACP makes the behavior less likely. In the absence of Sd, competing behavior is less likely to occur. Ex: turning off your cell phone and other devices so you have more time to study. Removing junk food out of sight or the place where you are study. Separating the kids to a distance so they have less chance to fight in a restaurant After work, dont try buying McDonalds in order to avoid eating junk food. Without EO, the potency of competing behavior. Ex never ever go to grocery shopping when you are starving; make sure you have good meal before you go. So that junk food buying is less likely.

A child engages in SIB and the reinforcement is punishment. Person provides attention after every 5 minutes so that potency of engaging in SIB goes down. Child is getting attention at a steady level over time. Increase response effort for competing behavior Ex. A bully frequently picks up on the student. Separate both of them. Workers are not recycling enough and throwing paper in garbage -> Take the garbage bin that is close them and move it away so the response effort goes up. Applications: You got a new treadmill- you want to walk on twenty to thirty minutes. You use antecedent procedure. You implement all the procedures you have learned in the class. Desirable behavior is walking on the treadmill. Identify how we can get somebody to work on it? SD- accessibility of treadmill. Behavior walking for 20-30 min 5X a week Consequence pain in the legs, heavy breathing, sweating. Getting in shape for the long run. What are the competing behaviors? Watching TV, playing on the internet, eating food etc Celvin drinks a lot of drink. He works in Florida (high temp) & he drinks 10 cans of soda per day. He is concerned about his health and he knows that he will gain fat. He wants to get them down to something reasonable. How could Celvin use antecedent procedures to reduce the amount of cans per day? Calvin could drink from ice cooler provided that there is one available at a site. The boss says that it shud be located all the time in the center. Dont bring any cans of cola He can establish the contingency of drinking ( a schedule) Dont bring change so no cans coming out of vending machine at work site He can make a deal with a coworker and offers to pay anyone a dollar who sees him drinking.
