CONTACT DETAILS 20 Woodland View, An Avor, Duporth, St. Austell, Cornwall. PL26 6DR. Phone: +44 7538-619137 RATIONALE Looking to secure a role either within a data entry/data maintainence/analytical team utilising my scientic, mathematical, problem solving skills and programming skills (such as IDL, SQL Queries, Fortran, XML CSS, etc) or securing a business administration role in sales or accounts. I come from an academic background having completed a B.Sc degree in Physics (nal grade 2:1 with Honours) at the University of Warwick, adding to this strong A-Level results. I have had two years combined experience in high-pressured working environments. I have also worked as a STEM Ambassador for approximately a 10 months during my second year at University. All this culminating in the ability to communicate complex ideas eectively, the ability to understand and analyse complex large scale data sets, the ability to compile extensive background research on complex topics and the ability to meet numerous deadlines under pressure. I would also consider myself to have good inter-personal and communication skills which I hope to use in any future roles.

EDUCATION GCE A-Level: Physics, Maths & Business Studies; GCE AS-Level: History & English (460 UCAS Points) NVQ: Business & Administration (Levels 1 & 2) Liskeard Sixth Form College, Liskeard School & Community College, Cornwall, UK August 2007 ABOUT: AAA grades in Business Studies, Mathematics and Physics respectively (full A2 Level, prior to introduction of A* grading). Mathematics A-Level module results: Core 1 - 86%, Core 2 - 90% Core 3 - 85% , Core 4 - 90%. Business Studies A-Level module results: Marketing & Accounting - 100%, External Inuences, Objectives & Strategies - 100%, People & Operations Management - 82%. Bachelor of Science, Physics (2:1 Upper Second Class with Honours) Department of Physics, The University of Warwick, Coventry, UK THESIS: Quasi-periodic pulsations in the light curves of solar aring events. ABOUT: A computational and theoretical analysis of solar are emission data, applications of Fourier spectral analysis, and periodic ordinary dierential equations applied to theoretical plasma physics. This research project is run by the Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics in conjunction with the Centre for Scientic Computing, both based here at the University of Warwick. This is an incredible research project that has given me some very useful key skills; computationally, I have gained important knowledge of the IDL Development Environment, scientic visualisation, Fourier transform/analysis applications, C+ Programming language and large-scale data analysis. ERASMUS Higher Education Student Exchange Programme, History of Italian Astronomy (Distinction) Dipartimento di Fisica e Astronomia, Universit Degli Studi Di Palermo, Sicily, Italy April 2009 THESIS: The impact of Giovanni Domenico Cassini & Galileo Galilei on astronomical understanding.

Roberts, Michael J. (August 2011) 2 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE RAL-Space Department, Rutherford-Appleton Laboratories March 2011 - April 2011 (Work Experience) Harwell Science Campus, Science and Technology Facilities Council, Oxfordshire UK Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics Sept 2013 - Sept 2014 (Secured Future Project) Alan Turin Building, The University of Manchester, Manchester UK Requires very accurate positional measurements (astrometry). This project started with a technical phase in developing and testing the astrometric capabilities of the new e-MERLIN array, a network of 7 large radio telescopes across the UK, operated at the University of Manchesters Jodrell Bank Observatory. The recent upgrade to e-MERLIN (new The second phase will be to carry out a survey to measure potential displacements between the radio active nuclei and the stellar population of their host galaxies. Other follow-ups from the technical phase include pulsar astrometry and the cross-identication of objects found in deep surveys of the Universe made at widely disparate wavelengths. STEM Ambassador Warwickshire Education Business Partnership January 2009 - August 2010 Warwickshire County Council, Warwick UK Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) ambassador for the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership (EBP). Duties included supporting STEM events and activities such as school visits to the National Space Centre in Leicestershire. As part of my induction I had to complete an enhanced disclosure from Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) as the role required working regularly with children and other vulnerable people interested in STEM related outreach events. National Academy of Gifted and Talented Youth March 2005 - Present The University of Warwick, Coventry UK Prior to studying at Warwick I was a member of the National Academy for gifted and talented youth, now re-branded as IGGY (International Gateway for Gifted Youth). Current senior alumni member of the National Academy of Gifted and Talented Youth society for pre-University students, mainly focusing on the development of my intellectual and critical thinking skills with people who were also high academic achievers. As part of membership to NAGTY, it was possible to take up outreach events. I only managed to attend three in my short time as a member, to a computer science outreach event at Oxford University, a day trip to the JET fusion laboratory, an overnight event to Jodrell Bank Observatory in Lancashire and a trip to the Lovell Radio Telescope (as part of the e-MERLIN and European VLBI Network arrays of radio telescopes outreach scheme). Institute of Art and Ideas, tvf Media March 2012 - May 2012 Angel Islington, London 6 week internship with the Institue of Art and Ideas (IAI) helping with the HowTheLightGetsIn 2012 Uncharted Territory: Progress for a New Era project/festival. Research and initiated ideas, booked academic and subject specialist speakers and helped set up the events for the philosophy and music festival HowTheLightGetsIn. Responsibility given to make a unique contribution to the project in my chosen areas of interest: including controversies of modern physics, the philosophy of science and the future of astronomy and cosmology. Lowell Observatory LARI Pro-AM Initiative August 2012 - Present 1400 West Mars Hill Road, Flagsta, AZ 86001. United States. Ongoing project (BGBF) working with Gerard van Belle targeting selected stars for photometric analysis. Ultra-high-resolution observations of hundreds of stars with optical interferometers have determined their 1 to 3 milliarcsecond sizes to a precision of 10 to 100 microarcseconds. However, to

Roberts, Michael J. (August 2011) 3 use those angular sizes to provide measurements of eective temperature, photometry must be collected from online repositories and used to make measurements of stellar bolometric ux.

COMPUTING SKILLS Certied by CompTIA A+ in Computer Maintenance (focusing on both hardware and software). Advanced word and excellent LaTeX, MatLab and Mathematica processing skills, procient knowledge of spreadsheets, experience with Linux programming, C++, XML CSS FORTRAN and the IDL Development Environment. Good knowledge of the arXiv journal systems and the SAO/NASA Astrophysics Data System.

EMPLOYMENT SKILLS Good time management, planning & organisation skills. Intellectual ability in the scientic elds (e.g. experimental skills, programming skills, problem solving, etc), good researching skills analysing data/information and data handling with a focus on quality. Enjoy working within a team or group; good creativity, adaptability and a good understanding of the economic and political landscape.

INTERESTS My passion is in communicating to all audiences about Science and its impact on our world, indeed I have a great interest in cosmology and the Universe. My other interests including 60s monochromatic artwork and photography: iconic photographs of Enesto Guevara by Alberto Korda and a painting inspired by Die Fahne Hoch! are notable examples. I particularly enjoy reading Jack Kerouac - The Dharma Bums and On The Road, Tennessee Williams - Orpheus Descending and the poetry of Richard Brautigan; All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace. Currently in my spare time I am learning conversational and written German.
