Oral Presentation 90 minutes

PRESENTATION TITLE:
Clinical Nutrition Update: What has changed in the last 12 months?

SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Each year, new clinical nutrition research findings produce a need for physicians to alter how they practice. I
will review the content of research articles appearing in the 12 months preceding the conference that I believe
are most likely to change how doctors practice clinical nutrition.

ABSTRACT:
Learning objectives
Attendees will come away versed in important changes that have occurred in clinical nutrition research during
the previous 12 months. They will be given protocol specifics (e.g., specific therapeutic foods and forms of
supplements reported to be efficacious, dosages, and time required for therapeutic results to appear).

Attendees will immediately be able to use these protocols in clinical practice. If lab tests are required to
evaluate the appropriateness of new treatments or assess the effectiveness of those treatments, attendees will
be able to interpret results of those tests.

Presentation outline
The findings of approximately 15 recently published trials that I believe are most likely to change how
naturopathic physicians practice clinical nutrition will be presented. The research selected will focus mostly
on randomized clinical trials. Both related biochemistry and related research will briefly be discussed, but
only to put the nature of the new findings into context. The focus will be on nuts and bolts details:
--Why are these new findings important?
--How can these findings be put immediately into practice?
-- (In some cases) what do these findings say about how we have been practicing up to now?

The session will be interactive and informal.
