Based on calculation, sample 2 area is in very poor condition which is pavement condition index value is 37.

The level of service for the road categorized in LOS E and the preferred maintainance activity for this distressed is do major rehabilitation or deferred action to the road section. There are a few method to repair the damaged pavement which are resurfacing, recycling and restoration. The reconstruction method is not suitable to be used as the pavement condition is not failed.

For the restoration method,we can choose to do rejuvenating, crack Sealing ,cutting and patching, thin bituminous overlay, surface dressing, slurry seal, thin hot mix overlay or surface recycling. Other than that, we also have another choices in recyling method which are hot plant mix recycling , hot in-place recycling or cold in-place recycling. Furthermore there are one famous method that usually been used in Malaysia which is resurfacing method. Resurfacing method including resurfacing on racked Surfaces, resurfacing rutted surfaces, resurfacing bleeding surfaces and resurfacing corrugated surfaces.

Based on the choices above, the most suitable maintainance activity for section 2 area is resurfacing method. Resurfacing is a process to install a new asphalt drive over an existing driveway. This method is less expensive than normal reconstruction since the replacement costs about a third more than resurfacing, many people will explore the resurfacing option for financial reasons.

The resurfacing method will make sure the surface pavement looks smoothly and the surface become more comfortable than restoring activity. Eventhough it will take more time rather than restoring, the road street can be driven on as soon as construction crews re-open the lane or street. The importance factor is the resurfacing is long lasting pavement which not easily get severed damaged. Compared to restoration which can get damaged in short period of time

Maximum allowable no.of deduct (M) a) Highest deduct value, HDV :33

b) M = 1 + (9/98)(100 - HDV ) = 1 + (9/98)(100 -33) = 7.15 c) Deduct value descending order : 33,23,20,16,15,13,7,4

d) No of deduct values : 8
e)

Maximum allowable no of deduct is 7.15, use 7 number deduct value and 0.15 *(the 8th deduct vaue) = 0.15 * 4 = 0.6

Maximum corrected deduct value ,CDV a) No.of deduct values greater than 2 :7

b) Total deduct value = 33+23+20+16+15+13+7+0.6 = 127.6 c) Based on figure 45-B, CDV value = 63

d) Repeat for q=6 until q=1 Determine the pavement condition index ,PCI a) Maximum CDV = 63 b) PCI = 100 - CDVmax = 100 - 63 = 37 c) Based on rating, this section is in very poor condition
