AC THREE-PHASE, FOUR-POLE SYNCHRONOUS GENERATOR ROTATING FIELD, DISTRIBUTED STATOR WINDING

Day: Saturday, Monday Date:1/7/2006 Time:12-3 :Instructors name Dr.Imad Break Eng.Sa'eed dwekat

:OBJECTIVES .To study open circuit test, load test, and short circuit test .1 .To study the regulation characteristics of the alternator .2 :EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE Make the circuit as in figure 1 as a three-phase, four-pole generator, delta .1 .connection, rotating field :Open-Circuit Characteristic Switch on the drive motor, bring its speed up to 1500 r.p.m and maintain at this .2 value throughout the test. Switch on the DC rotor supply, with no external load applied to the generator increase the DC current from zero to 4.0 Amp in steps (0.4 amp at each step ), take readings of AC line terminal voltage and rotor current at each .(step, then plot the no load characteristics(Line voltage and If

:Short Circuit Characteristics In this test the three line terminals are shorted together through the AC ammeter as .3 shown in figure 2, and with the drive speed maintained at 1500 r.p.m, switch on the DC rotor supply and increase the current in steps from zero to 4.0 A, taking readings

of output current on short circuit and rotor current at each step. Then plot the graph of .short circuit current against field excitation current

:Load Characteristics Connect a three-phase resistive load to the generator terminals as in figure 3, and .4 initially set to maximum value, vary the speed to give 1500 r.p.m, switch on the DC power supply and adjust the field current to give a terminal voltage equals to 60 V .(line to line) at no load, maintain speed and field current constant through the test

Vary the load resistor to minimum taking readings of load current and terminal .5 .voltage. Then plot the relation between terminal voltage and load current Load Case1 Line-line voltage 60 ((V (Load current (A 0.1 Case2 50 0.3 Case3 40 0.5 Case4 25 0.6
