Chapter 1

In this series I'd like to look at the role of the universal law in the fulfilment of the purpose of life. In this article, I'd like to look briefly at the purpose of life and then the coded terms in which the verities, including the universal laws, have been discussed up till now. The purpose of life, in my view, is for God to meet God in a moment of enlightenment. The Formless Transcendental (the One without a second, the unconditioned Brahman), being all there is is unable to know itself for lack of any circumstance in which to do so. Therefore it created illusory life forms to journey from unconscious awareness of their identity as God to conscious awareness, through countless lifetimes in matter. Their aim was to reach a point where they realized their true identity as God in a moment of enlightenment at which point God meets God and the purpose of life is fulfilled. We are those life forms. All of life was designed. It has design features such as the longing for liberation, reincarnation, the Adam Kadmon template (the human form), and so on. It has natural laws that keep us from going off the rails and destroying the place. These universal laws keep us moving generally and gradually forward, with allowable detours perhaps, so that all has a cosmic orderliness if seen from a high enough vantage point. A great deal of the discussion of the universal law is couched in code words so that its

interpretation wouldn't be known to the uninitiated, lest they manipulate that knowledge. We're told quite regularly that the dark ones have indeed manipulated us through their knowledge of the esoteric. Here's SaLuSa reminding us of this, for instance: "The Laws of the Universe are quite clear and irrevocable, and both the dark and Light must obey them. The one that has been considerably used is the Law of Attraction, although for a large part of your lives you have not understood the implications of your actions. The dark Ones have understood it, and taken advantage of your ignorance by empowering themselves at your expense." (1) This need to keep the wisdom of God from the uninitiated and the princes of the world is the reason why Jesus said: Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. (2) Swine want what they can eat and they cannot eat pearls. Therefore they turn on one who casts them indigestible pearls instead of digestible corn. The early Christian fathers, according to St. Paul, speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of the world knew. (3) If our gospel be hid, he continued, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not. (4) Wisdom in those days was hidden behind metaphors and formulas. Centuries after St. Paul, Pseudo-Dionysius was still counselling his follower Timothy: So, my good Timothy, you must guard these things in accordance with divine command, and you must never speak nor divulge divine things to the uninitiated. (5) Surely what happened to Jesus and the early church fathers showed the great risk that the prophets faced from the princes of the world. Therefore much of Biblical lore and other ancient teachings was written in a code. When speaking of the soul, the prophets described it as a lamp ever burning on the altar (of the heart) or a firebrand plucked from the burning. The Divine Mother becomes Wisdom and Royal Glory. The Father becomes the Silence and the Wilderness. It's in recognition of the fact that God the Father is still and silent and God the Mother is active and sonic that Zarathustra would say: God the Lord hears (us) through the Holy Spirit. (6) Terms like the voice in the silence or the voice of one crying in the wilderness make plain the fact that the Divine Mother hears and speaks but the Father does not. The

Father is the silence; the Mother is the voice. The Father is the wilderness, because order can't be imposed on him and no law can bind him; the Mother is again the voice crying in that wilderness. In couched terms like these, the verities of life, including the nature of the universal law, were discussed and conveyed from generation of seekers to generation. It's now up to us to unravel the meaning of these terms and to discuss subjects like the universal law plainly.

Chapter 2

Before we begin to look at the role of the universal laws in life, we need to discuss the fact that all of us negotiate a soul contract before entering into any one lifetime. Our life agreement covers the people and situations we'll encounter in life but not our responses to them. Let's look at the circumstances of that contract. Everyone has a life plan Each lifetime we agree before birth to take on a specific learning task or tasks. Our guides and the Lords of Karma usually call the assignments we give ourselves our soul contract, blueprint, or life plan. SaLuSa tells us that every individual has his or her own plan. (2) You have a life contract, he says, of which very few are personally aware and have seen into the future and planned it accordingly. (3) According to Matthew Ward as well, only a relative handful of Earths peoples know about soul contracts. (4) He tells us that life plans are agreed before you come into your earth body, and your Guides will do everything in their power to ensure you complete your incarnation successfully. (5) When weve completed our life plan, he tells us, we leave Earth. Normally when your time of completion is reached you are ready to return to the higher dimensions. Bear this in mind when your loved ones or friends leave the Earth plane, and be happy for them. They have not gone from your lives forever, and soul groups will come together time and time again. (6) Some time after death, we sit down again with our guides and review how we did, in an

event generally known on the other side as the Judgment. (7) Elsewhere I've discussed how 20th Century psychologist Frances Banks navigated her Judgment in the astral planes. (8) Our soul contracts determine what situations are brought to us but not how well respond. In fashioning our response to these given situations, we are expected to grow in knowledge

of ourselves. Sometimes it may take us a series of lifetimes to learn one specific lesson, SaLuSa informs us, but learning it moves you on and adds to your spiritual understanding. (9) Our soul contract is negotiated each lifetime. One occasion on which the discussion of soul contracts arises is when we consider the events of our lives and wonder if coincidence plays a role. Saul says:There are no accidents or coincidences. Every occurrence and every opportunity that you experience during Earth life has been prepared or allowed for before you incarnated. (10) SaLuSa concurs: As you can clearly understand, you are all in here to learn through your experiences and nothing comes your way by pure chance. (11) Every aspect of our lives is planned, he says. (12) We may feel that many of our experiences are uncalled for, but we assure you that they are all connected with your life plan. (13) Where you experience the harsh reality of life, SaLuSa reminds us, it is for your spiritual understanding and development. (14) The galactic and spirit teachers can see what events lie ahead of us, he reveals.

Events can be foreseen way ahead, so it easy enough to place you where it is of the most benefit. Life seems complicated but in reality it is quite simple, as you will always find yourself to be in the right place. It is much the same with the people that enter your life, as that is also by arrangement and agreement. (15) For these reasons, Saul encourages us to embrace situations in our lives which seem like curve balls. When life throws you a curved ball, embrace it! Nothing in your life happens by chance; every event you experience has been planned and has a purpose. However, while you remain immersed in the illusion, it is very difficult for you to perceive this, let alone understand what it is trying to show you. (16) SaLuSa explains these curve balls as karma and says they again are part of our life plan. Only karmic reasons would result in you being pulled off course, and if it happens know that it is part of your life contract that you have already agreed upon. (17)

We forget about our soul contract when we incarnate One circumstances that makes the existence of soul contracts hard to imagine is the fact that everything that happens prior to birth is forgotten once we incarnate. Saul describes the situation we find ourselves in. You planned your life paths carefully prior to incarnating to provide you with the lessons you chose to learn, knowing that when they occurred you would not understand them. Within your limited state of human consciousness, understanding of that order is impossible because the lives of all humans affect each other in myriad incomprehensible ways. (18)

Ive been outside my body and know how dense the physical vehicle is. Its density alone makes it difficult to bring back spirit remembrances and is one factor in why we forget our soul contract. If we had full knowledge of our soul contract, our place in the group, and the events of other lifetimes, we might find that awareness overwhelming. We might be paralyzed by all the considerations we face, as Saul informs us: If you had knowledge of that it would be impossible for you to follow your chosen path because you would be constantly concerned about your standing and your effect on your group. Your paths are all perfectly planned so that the necessary interactions will occur at exactly the right moment, allowing you total freedom to choose an appropriate response in the moment, as it occurs. (19) Some people agree to play the dark roles Forgetting then is a mercy that allows us to play out the events of this lifetime creatively and with the greatest chance of learning from them. Different people agree through their soul contracts to play the roles of lightworkers and darkworkers, for the learning of the group, SaLuSa says: Remember that experiences are set up with souls that have all agreed to play out their respective roles. Someone has to take the part of the dark Ones, and believe us Dear Ones you have all acted on both sides. (20) Some people agree to play the role of perpetrators and others of victims, again for the learning of the group, he adds. There are amongst you people who have been wronged as you would interpret it, and do consider themselves victims. However, this is all by arrangement and you are a willing partner to the karma being played out. No matter how severe the circumstances, the fact remains that you were aware of your agreed life plan before you incarnated on Earth. Many will argue against it, convinced that they could not have agreed to suffer or indeed see others suffer. (21) Usually those who agree to play the role of victim do so to provide others with an opportunity to exercise compassion, St. Germain explains: Some of you have taken on

karma that will necessitate that you experience need, and you carry this burden so that others can respond. (22) Some agree to experience lifetimes of deprivation to complete their karmic education and graduate from Third Density, Matthew tells us. Please remember that some of what you see that is worrisome, even abhorrent to societyviolence in any form; theft; drugged children and adults, whether by prescription or illegally; unjust laws and fraudulent convictions; growing numbers of homeless and unemployed; torture; school dropoutsis perpetrators and victims completing karmic lessons so they never again have to experience thirddensity lifetimes. (23) Often we may stop and wonder if another person is following their soul contract or not. As long as we remain in dense physical bodies, Matthew tells us, we may not have the depth of insight to determine this question: You have no way of knowing if [a] person is following the soul contract to the letter by providing opportunities for others to complete thirddensity karma and continue their soul evolvement. (24) Those who take their dark roles much farther than they agreed to in their contract are most in need of our prayers, Matthew advises us: The dark-minded ones whose intentions and actions are way outside their soul contracts are in the most desperate need of the light in prayerprayers for Earth and all of her life forms is one of the most valuable contributions anyone can make. (25) So as we turn to the subject of the universal laws, we need first of all to know that the people and situations we encounter in life have often been arranged beforehand and agreed to in our soul contracts.

Chapter 3

The Divine Mother is the creator of the universal laws

How were the universal laws created? Zarathustra says that God the Father created the universal law through God the Mother whom he, like Solomon, called Wisdom: He who in the beginning thought, and the Light was filled with lights, Himself through wisdom [the Mother] created (the Law of) Righteousness. (1) We individual souls are the lights that fill the Light of the Father. Solomon was the best-known mystic to know the Mother as Wisdom. He said: Doth not wisdom cry? ... The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth. (2) Solomon is here describing the Mother acknowledging that she was created before there was a heaven and an Earth. Elsewhere he says of Wisdom: For wisdom ... is the breath of the power of God, And a pure emenation of his almighty glory.(3)

The Divine Mother creates from love The Latin word for breath is spiritus. Divine Breath means Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God's first creation, the primary step-down transformation of the formless into form. The Holy Spirit, unlike the still and silent Father, is organized by being active and sonic, a creative, universal vibration known to us as Aum or Amen, which is the Procreatrix (Prakriti) of all forms in the phenomenal realm. Hindus know the Divine Mother as Shakti, which created the Heavens and the Earth. She is not a female any more than He is a male. The sages used the male/female distinction to tell apart movement from rest. That is all. Jesus acknowledged this difference when he responded to his disciples' question, What is the sign of your Father in you? He answered: It is a movement and a rest. (4) The Mother is that movement and the Father is that rest. When John the Baptist was described as the voice of one crying in the wilderness, (5) the Mother is that voice and the Father is the wilderness in the sense that no law applies to the Father, who is the source of law. Law only applies to the Mother and her domain of matter, mater, or materiality. Solomon goes on to tell us that the Lord created everything there is by way of the Divine Mother, the Holy Spirit, Wisdom. The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth, Solomon tells us. (6) Wisdom ... operates everything, he says. (7) Not only did Wisdom create the Earth, but She also created the human body, as Solomon tells us: Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn her seven pillars. (8) Her seven

pillars are probably the seven chakras.

The Mother is the matrix of matter She also created the natural law, as Sri Aurobindo tells us. Something ... imposes on [these elements] the law of their being, and what could that be but the Womb, the matrix of original and indestructible matter, the plasm which moulds the universe and out of which it is moulded? (9) The Divine Mother is that womb or matrix of original and indestructible matter, mater, matrix that moulds the universe. The Divine Mother is the necessary but not the sufficient cause of the natural law. God the Father is the sufficient cause. He creates the law through the Mother, but the Father is still said to be the source of it. The natural law is perfect, which is why Jesus could say: Wisdom is justified of her children. (10) What did he mean? In my view, what he meant is that the Divine Mother's natural laws bring us children of God from unconscious awareness of our identity as God to conscious awareness. Achieving this result justifies or validates Wisdom, or the Divine Mother. Put another way, the efficacy of the Divine Mother's universal laws is proven by the result: that they bring God's children to their destination, which is absolute knowledge of their identity as the Father. That is their purpose. What is the reward of the one who keeps the Mother's laws? She says through Solomon: My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments. ... Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain

thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all things thou canst desire are not to be compared with her. (11) My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind [it] continually upon thine heart, and tie [it] about thy neck. "When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. "For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life. (12) So God is the ultimate source of the universal law but he creates, preserves and transforms it through his identity as the Divine Mother. Keeping the law carries its own reward. And following the law leads us to the Father. Thus the Father creates the natural law through the Mother and applies it to this dreamworld of materiality which the children of the two reside in on their journey from the Father out into the Mother's world where She raises them up, schools them and prepares them for their conscious return to the Father.

Chapter 4

9/11 resulted in exceptions to the law of free will

An Indian teacher once said that we have about as much free will as a tethered cow. That sounds about right to me. We have a certain amount of free will and no more. The extent of our free will is limited and God may abrogate our free will in response to a number of demands, as we shall see here. Before looking at free will proper, I'd like to examine those exceptions to the law. We need to keep in mind from the get-go that no law applies to God. God, in His/Her/Its transcendental aspect as the Formless Absolute is beyond the reach of any law. When we talk about the Divine Mother as the voice of one crying in the wilderness, (1) God is that wilderness and is called so in recognition of the fact that no law can be deemed to apply to God. The great spiritual masters of all ages and countries will tell us that all of life is really a dream that the Creator is having, malleable to the Creator's Will. This is the reason why Swami Vivekananda could say: "This world is a superstition. We are hypnotized into believing it real. The process of salvation is the process of de-hypnotization. This universe is just the play of the Lord that is all. It is all just for fun." (2)

No dualistic notions like good and evil apply to the formless God, as Sri Ramakrishna makes clear: Good and evil apply to the jiva, the individual soul, as do righteousness and unrighteousness, but Brahman [the formless God] is not at all affected by them. (3) In approaching the matter of the law of free will, the main question most people have is whether it applies in every situation, no matter what. So in this first instalment on the law of free will, let's look at the situations in which free will does not apply. We should realize at the outset that the natural law is in effect the commandment of the Formless Creator. As Sri Ramakrishna tells us, He who has made the law can also change it. (4) One instance that we know of in which the law of free will has been changed is the instance in which the free will of a higher-dimensional entity is deemed to take precedence over the free will of a lower. For example, Matthew Ward tells us how Earth's pleas for help more than a half century ago took precedence over the law of free will as it applied to us. It is a God-given mandate that Earth shall be free of the control by dark powers. You may ask: How can God do that when He is bound to honor Creators law that ALL souls free will choices must be respected, and clearly some people do not want any changes in the status quo? Because Gods mandate IS within that law. More than half a century past, Earths soul cried out for help so her planetary body would not perish, and it is her free will to survive that God is honoring through the cooperation of light beings within, on and beyond the planet. (5) Another instance in which free will can be suspended is when the actions of one civilization cause destruction to another civilization that may be distant in space or separate in dimensionality. For instance the Greys complained that our explosion of nuclear bombs was destroying their planets. In a video with Lilou Mace, Drunvalo Melchizedek discusses what happened. In 1945, we exploded an atomic bomb. That changed everything. What we did was illegal. It was against the law everywhere throughout the universe. You can work with fusion. You can bring atoms together. You cant break them apart. Thats illegal. The reason is because everything is interconnected. And so if you do something on a

small level like an atomic level its going to affect something on a big level. And in this case, it was the Greys home base. They were out of Orion. We literally destroyed about a hundred of their planets. And so they were upset to say the least. When the atomic bomb went off that triggered everybody in the universe. I mean everyone. Basically the cosmic police came in. And in .. the summer of 1946 there were spaceships all over every single military base in Europe. And then in June of 1947 they were all over every military base in the United States and in Japan. There were 42,000 sightings in 1947. (6) The Greys asked that humans not be permitted to harm them in this way. Matthew distinguished between the transcendental Creator and the God of this universe in explaining what happened next. Creator established the cosmic laws and God, by whatever name one calls the Supreme Being of this universe, must honor those laws in this universe. A few years ago in your linear time, Creator 'broke' Its own law of free will by decreeing that there would be no more nuclear detonations in space. In honoring that decree in this universe, God correspondingly 'broke' the law of free will by denying that to souls who have attempted such detonations. He has done so by permitting civilizations to use their technology to prevent the success of those attempts, and since Creator issued Its decree, those civilizations have acted to fulfill Gods authorization throughout this universe. (7) Matthew notes a third incident in which God acceded to Gaia's wishes never to have another event like 9/11 be permitted to occur. In all other instances, God is bound to honor Creators law of free will. Therefore, in a subsequent issue affecting Earth, it may appear that not only is He 'breaking' that law, but in addition He is 'breaking' His own law of noninterference, or nonintervention, which is that no civilization may enter into any other civilizations affairs without request. He did so by denying the free will of those who have tried to cause more devastation on the scale of 9/11, and again this is being accomplished through the

efforts of higher civilizations. (8) Matthew states that here too, God is preferring the free will of a more evolved entity Gaia to that of the lesser evolved entities; namely, Gaia's inhabitants. However, in so allowing this, God is honoring the free will choice of Earth, who is a sentient being, a soul with a planetary body, that no more deliberate destruction to that extent may befall her life forms. (9) By honoring Earth's free will to never again experience any terrorist activity like '9/11,' God has authorized extraterrestrial intervention to prevent all such attempts and they have successfully done so more than a dozen times since September 11, 2001, including the neutralizing of manmade viruses that were intended to create pandemics. (10) Matthew tells us that between Sept. 11, 2001 and the same date three years later, the galactics intervened several times to prevent second 9/11s. What the dark minds intend is to precede a declaration of that unique significance [declaring martial law] with an event of such profound impact that the populace will easily submit to martial law. Such an event would require a reaction that would rival the shock of '9/11,' and God has authorized ET civilizations to prevent all major terrorist attempts, which they have done successfully several times during the three years since September 2001. (11) Nonetheless, apart from these exceptions, the law of free will is honored, Matthew says. However, other than these instances, the free will of the 'dark cabal' must be respected in accordance with the cosmic law, and that is why they still are causing all sorts of mayhem, oppression, death and destruction. Those conditions will not continue much longer. The higher frequencies will end the physical lives of the people who are causing those conditions, the people who knowingly and deliberately refuse the light that would heal their fearful spirits and permit their survival in the higher densities where your planet is heading. And it is because of the massive light-beaming by numerous other civilizations that Earth is sufficiently rejuvenated to make this journey. (12) Another category of events altogether are divine deadlines. Free will can be overruled

when a divine deadline is passed in the operation of the Divine Plan. Ascension is part of the Divine Plan, which the galactics serve, as SaLuSa explains: The Creator has expressed a desire that all within your Universe shall ascend (13) and the Galactic Federation are here to fulfil the Creators Plan. (14) Evolved civilizations from outer space and other dimensions have been invited to assist the spiritual hierarchy (celestials, ascended masters, etc.) to prepare the terrestrial population to ascend. In order to be able to prepare the population, the Divine Plan stipulates that the extraterrestrials be able to get to work by a certain date. The dark cabal can obstruct events up to that date, by exercise of their free will, but after that date they cannot. They lose the right to oppose events after that. Here is SaLuSa explaining the concept of divine deadlines: We do of course have a deadline date by which we should have started, and clearly it is not that far into the future. (15) However, the Divine Plan does not allow for continued delays and there is a final date by which action is required. The Universe is ascending and all progresses well and as planned, but we cannot allow little Earth to dictate the timing. As important as you are to the whole, you are still a relatively small cog in a very big wheel. (16) We will confirm that in the whole context of your Ascension, there is an ultimate date given us by which we must be able to commence our activities. We may find it necessary to make the first move, and remove those who are holding us up in our mission to Earth and all life upon it. (17) SaLuSa uses the example of First Contact to explain what happens when a divine deadline is reached: There is a specified date by which you must have progressed to First Contact. If by any chance it has not commenced in good time, there will be intervention on our part to ensure it can go ahead. That has been divinely decreed and is our authorisation to do so. (18) Here again he says: There is an ultimate deadline for [first] contact and you are therefore assured of our eventual arrival on Earth. (19) And, on another occasion: We have a timetable to guide us and have absolutely no doubt that all will be completed as intended. (20)

The Galactic Federation has been attempting to enlist the cooperation of Earths various governments for some time, but the dark forces in power would not participate. Only before the divine deadline does this refusal to cooperate stop the tide of events. Says SaLuSa: On a number of occasions we have tried to offer our help, and it has been turned down. However, we no longer need your permission to arrive on Earth, as it has become a divine order with an ultimate date by which we will appear. We will do so in a perfectly correct manner and first approach those who are your legallyappointed representatives. (21) It is not only SaLuSa who puts forth the notion of a divine deadline. The Spiritual Hierarchy and Galactic Federation speaking through Sheldan Nidle say the same: Remember that Heaven is unfolding a divine plan and this plan lays out specific time points that we need to observe. These stipulations will be our orders to initiate first contact and we go planetward when so directed. Until then we follow the directives of the operation outlined in this and previous updates. (22) So prior to actually examining the law of free will, what we've done here is to look at the exceptions to that law. We've seen that the law does not apply to God and that God can change the law at any time. We've looked at a number of instances in which God has in fact changed the law: to respond to Gaia's pleas for help, to respond to the Greys' complaint that we were destroying their worlds, and to respect Gaia's wishes that no other attacks as extensive as 9/11 again occur.

Chapter 5

Our tendency is to think of the universal law as a collection of stand-alone laws which we set about to legalistically understand. But Sanat Kumara, the Planetary Logos and keeper of the universal law for Earth and Venus, offered us a discussion of it on An Hour with an Angel on June 4, 2012, in which he pointed out that the universal law could not be understood or made best use of in that way. He described how the laws were intended to work together to lead us back to God and how they could only be understood as a comprehensive and orchestrated whole. Let's listen to what he had to say on the matter. Sanat began by describing the Divine Mother's intention in creating the universal law. The Divine Mother brings forth ways of creation, of movement, of action in which we come to know and experience the Unknowable, that we can find that place of union between movement and stillness, between all and nothing. So the universal law as you think of it, as we all think of it, is a way for us to come to know, to understand, to create and to be closer in alignment and union with all that is. So it was a method or a tool, a creation. (1) He confirmed that God created the universal law (through the Divine Mother) to be known. [The universal law] was a way for us to understand and to be in closer divine union. So even in the very beginning, the alignment of will was such that there was a will in the Oneness, in the All, in the Source to be known and you have what creations came forward throughout many universes to understand and ways in which to be able to

work their way back [to God]. So you can think of universal law .... as a guide, a road map, a way in which to know the Unknowable. Sanat pointed out that the universal law was not devised, and does not work, as a collection of fragments but as a coordinated and orchestrated whole. Universal law is not fragmented. Universal law is not this law or that law. ... The Divine Plan and universal law [are] a comprehensive set, a body of understanding, and it is a body of understanding so that all the participants ... [be given] the understanding in the most basic of ways of how ... things work in my universe, of how is it that am I to undertake my life in sacred and meaningful ways when I am in my human self in a human journey, a spirit in form. How do I conduct [my life] and know that I am in alignment. He agreed that the constituent laws stood alone, but they form one entity. There are many aspects of universal law that you have thought of as standalone laws and there are dozens of them. But you are very correct to think that there is universal law ... You can think of it as one entity, as one collective energy. If we were to envision the universal law as one law, then, according to Sanat, that law would best be called the Law of Love. It was sometimes referred to as the Law of One. But that has become misunderstood very often and misused in some realms upon your planet. So we will talk about universal law as the Law of Love. ... When you are in that place of love, when you are in that collective understanding, when you have reached the place within your being, of simply acknowledging and being love, then that is it. You are in adherence, you are in alignment, with the universal law. Sanat's statement here is echoed by SaLuSa: "In the future you will have much more knowledge and understanding of the Universal Laws, and with full consciousness you will have no problem in adhering to them. It can all be summed up by living from a point of Unconditional Love, and although a great challenge in your present circumstances it will become easier as you ascend." (2)

Sanat advised us against trying to pick the laws apart. ... That is not the spirit, not the energy of the law. ... It is like trying to break things down when in fact the entire purpose of universal law is unification. It is bring together, not fragmentation. He asked us to think of the universal law as a unifying factor, bringing us back to the higher dimensions and joining us again to all who await us there. When you think of universal law and yourself, we want you, we guide you to think of universal law, how we, how Mother/Father, how He/She, Source, All One, how we beckon you back to join with us. So it is a unifying factor. That is what it is called 'universal' law. It is encompassing. It is embracing. It is to bring you and us and all together. Finally he encouraged us to forego a legalistic understanding of the law and rather choose alignment with it, advising us that to choose so was to contribute to the Ascension of the collective. And the more that you are in alignment, not with the understanding as if you are a legal scholar, ... [but] with your multidimensional, universal, human, starseed, Earthkeeper Self in alignment with the law, then the more you are in alignment not only with all but also with who you are. And the more you are in alignment with who you are, the more you are contributing to the absolute Ascension of the collective. The universal law therefore is a road map leading us back to the higher dimensions and a help in having us reunite with the All. If it could be conceived of as one law, it would be a Law of Love. Its overall influence on us is to promote divine qualities such as love, joy, unity, and peace. It is a unifying factor and a corrective to the separative impulses of the Third Dimension.

Chapter 6

The last in this series of articles takes one universal law - the Law of Free Will and uses it as an example to illustrate how the universal law operates and how the operation of one law is affected and worked upon by other circumstances and laws. My assertion is that the same observations made here could also be made about the Law of Karma, the Law of Attraction and the dozens of other laws that form the design of life in which we operate on our virtually-endless journey of self-discovery. It's a commonplace in channeled discussions of life to state that life is characterized by free will. But almost as soon as that statement is made, our guides in the matter begin to list the factors that moderate, mitigate, or impact the individual's exercise of free will. Because the discussion helps us understand the workings of the universal law, I'd like to spend time in this article looking at how free will is said to operate. All souls have free will The standard presentation of free will states, as Matthew Ward does here, that all souls have free will regardless of their evolvement status, whether living in spirit worlds or physical civilizations, or their location in the universe. (1) SaLuSa makes a fairly similar statement when he says that your freewill has operated all through your experiences. (2) But almost immediately exceptions to free will are presented. For instance, SaLuSa implies that we in Third Dimension have less free will than beings in higher dimensions. He says: We [ascended beings] are ... allowed more say in what we do, having reached a

high level of understanding. In your case decisions often have to be made for you by your mentors. It depends on how spiritually advanced you have become. After all the purpose of living many lives is to follow an overall plan that leads to your spiritual evolution. It is the only way to advance and leave the cycle of re-birth behind. (3) An unnamed spirit teacher agrees with what SaLuSa says: Free-will is developed in proportion as the spirit acquires the consciousness of himself. (4) Apparently, we all have spirit guides and the question of how free will operates comes up many times when we look at how they work with us. Speaking from the astral plane, John Heslop says that spirit guides know that no one can be helped against his will, according to John Heslop. (5) He continues: Keep ever clearly before you that man is a free agent in all matters and, though he may receive great spiritual help, he is never coerced by anyone from this higher sphere. (6) Heslop explains how the guide will use holy influence instead to attract the guided one to a wise or appropriate course of action. Holy influence may be likened to the magnet, but it is necessarily inactive (because of mans free will) till he turns voluntarily toward it. But once the desire for holiness and purity is set up, then the holy influence is all-compelling and draws the lowest and the basest, as well as the best, into its sphere of purity and goodness. (7) Monsignor Robert Hugh Benson also explains how the spirit guide on the other side of life will advise his or her incarnate charge on a course of action but never violate their ability in the end to exercise their free will. It must never for one instant be thought that the influence of the spirit guide [negates] or violates the possession or expression of free will. If, upon the earthplane, you were to observe somebody about to take a false step into a stream of traffic upon the road, the fact that you put out your hand to stop him would in no way impinge upon his exercise of free will. A spirit guide will try to give advice when his advice can be got through to his charge; he will try to lead him in the right direction solely for his own good and it remains for his charge, in the exercise of his free will, to take that advice or reject it. If he does the latter, he can only blame himself if disaster or trouble overtakes

him. At the same time, the spirit guides are not there to live a persons life for him. That he must do himself. (8) The same thing applies to us when we leave the body and migrate to the astral planes. Spirit guides there allow complete freedom of will to people who arrive in the afterlife. The unnamed teacher of medium Betty Bethards advises us that we never push our free will against any soul crossing over. He is given total free choices on this side. (9) To be sure, the life the individual graduates to on the other side is a reflection of his or her free will choices, as an unnamed spirit teacher tells us in Life Here and Hereafter: The divine law is one of personal freedom. Each soul can choose its own future. Each soul, still embedded in its human life, is choosing that future now. The old theologians, in their half-knowledge, described this life of the human soul as either a harp-playing multitude about a golden throne, or a descent into a fiery burning hell to be suffered forevermore. But this was only a human, emotional effort to describe the indescribable. The life here is the reasonable result of one's choice of one's character. (10) Finding ourselves in this destination is as it should be. The purpose of the original granting of free will is to allow us to see the results of our choices and educate us in a slow but effective manner. The universal laws work together Many people cannot understand why free will seems to be abrogated in some circumstances because they don't realize that the universal laws work together. Here SaLuSa discusses how free will is itself tied into or related to the Law of Attraction: Freewill is a gift from the Creator that is sacred and covered by the Law of Attraction. Human beings sometimes blame others or God for their experiences, but in truth they are attracted to you by your thoughts and actions. How else could freewill operate? (11) On another occasion, he suggested that free will itself is itself limited in that there are laws that are applied should it cause harm to others, or interfere with their freewill. (12) Thus the Law of Free Will is impacted by other laws that come into operation when one being's exercise of free will negatively impacts or harms another.

Another difficulty is that many people cannot see or accept that some aspects of life are planned while other aspects allow for free will. For instance, before birth people agree to a soul contract, which plans the events of their lives, but free will comes in later: they have the free will to respond to the planned aspects of their lives as they so choose. SaLuSa explains: You may ponder how amongst millions of people it is possible [that people are attracted to each other and show up in each other's lives]. It is because every aspect of your lives is planned, and you are each part of soul groups that come together with the purpose of gaining experience. We hear some question where freewill comes in, but there would be no plan unless you exercised it prior to incarnating. Freewill is still your prerogative, but having agreed to a plan for your life you are drawn to those people and experiences that will help fulfil it. Your Guides are also very active in keeping you on track, but the final word is with you. (13) Thus some aspects of our lives are planned and some allow for free will and this can prove confusing to people. This is one reason why the avatar Sri Ramakrishna says that we have as much free will as a tethered cow. Just as, when a cow is tied to a post with a long tether, it can stand at a distance of one cubit from the post, or it can go up to the whole length of the tether according to its choice, so too it is with the free will of man. A man ties a cow with the idea, 'Let her lie down, stand or move about as she likes within that area.' Similarly God has given man some power. And He has also given him freedom to utilize it as he likes. That is why man feels himself free. But the rope is fastened to the post. (14) It may not be obvious to us at ground level that we have as much freedom as a tethered cow, but it becomes more obvious to beings who progress ever further in life and ever further in understanding. Free Will is ultimately part of the Illusion that life is Interimly, spiritual teachers recognize free will and will not breech it in a student, as Sri Yukteswar Giri, the teacher of Paramhansa Yogananda, tells us here: Every individual in

the world has an inalienable right to his free will. A saint will not encroach on that independence. (15) But ultimately free will is part of the overall illusion that life is, an illusion designed to provide life forms with the learning that propels them from unconscious awareness of their identity as God to conscious awareness. The function of the universal law is to take an individual from illusion to knowledge. The main illusion is believing that we are separate individuals when in actuality all life forms are nothing other than the one God having donned a form. It should not come as a surprise then to find that a second illusion centers around whether or not we have free will. Though the Law of Free Will bestows upon us the opportunity to choose and act, given that we do not exist save in the illusion, it should not be surprising that, once the illusion is removed, we discover that we don't have free will at all. Sri Ramakrishna explains: Those who have realized God are aware that free will is a mere appearance. In reality man is the machine and God its Operator, man is the carriage and God its Driver. (16) As Mata Amritanandamayi reminds us, if the universal law does its job, then the thought that 'I am the doer' should go. God is the doer. (17) Thus it's true that a universal Law of Free Will operates as a teaching mechanism designed to impart a total learning experience in which the individual comes to see the wisdom of his or her choices and trues up to higher and higher standards leading to the final realization that all of us are nothing other than God incarnate. But at the same time, this Law of Free Will operates within an environment in which other laws also operate and the operation of one law may impinge on the operation of another. Moreover, free will may increase the higher in dimensionality we go. And it is also affected by the existence of soul contracts negotiated before we enter into incarnation and by other factors. It therefore becomes a task expected of us that we study the circumstances in which universal laws operate and reach a point of understanding the intent behind the Divine Plan in which all universal laws play a part. Until we do so, seeming contradictions will cause us to be confused and wonder how the whole round of life operates.

However, once the manner in which the whole of life's journey is designed to operate is seen, including the place within it of universal laws, these areas of confusion disappear. We are left at some point, I would imagine, not only seeing the wisdom of the total design of life but also being the beneficiaries of having participated in life as it was designed, the benefit being the realization of our own identity as the very one who designed the total round of life and the enjoyment of all the benefits, such as peace and joy, that that realization brings. But that realization, it would appear, is a very long way off. In these six articles, we've looked at numerous aspects (not all) of the nature and operation of the universal law. A look at all the laws that regulate existence is beyond the scope of this series. For now, this concludes our look at some of the principles and characteristics of the universal law.
