JOINT PRIMARY MASTER OF MEDICINE (M.MED) (INTERNAL MEDICINE) / MRCP (UK) PART 1 WRITTEN EXAMINATION (Singapore Centre)

ELIGIBILITY Subject to satisfying the admission criteria and paying the appropriate fees, applicants may opt to apply for Primary M.Med standalone exam, MRCP Part 1 standalone exam OR both examinations (Joint Primary M.Med and MRCP Part 1 exams). Admission Criteria Every candidate for the Examination must hold a medical qualification recognised by the Royal College of Physicians. Candidates will not be admitted to the MRCP(UK) Part 1 Examination until 12 months after the date of graduation given on their diploma of medical qualification. If the date of graduation is significantly later than the date of completion of training, the date on which candidates received notice of passing their final examination may be considered. In such cases, candidates should submit documentary proof. Candidates must have had at least 12 months experience in medical employment, i.e. must have completed Foundation Year 1 or equivalent. All applications will need to be supported by the candidates current or most recent educational supervisor or most recent supervising consultant. Candidates will be required to provide details of their educational supervisor or supervising consultant in their application and confirm that their application has been discussed and is supported by them. If, at the time of making an application to sit any Part of the MRCP(UK) Examination, a candidate is suspended by the UK General Medical Council (or equivalent regulatory body if a candidate is not resident or practising in the United Kingdom), they must notify the MRCP(UK) Central Office of this at the time of application, providing details of the length of the suspension. For admission to the MRCP (UK) Part 1 standalone examination held in Singapore, application is restricted to candidates who are entitled to practise and currently hold posts either in Singapore / Malaysia / Brunei / Nepal / Myanmar/ Australia and New Zealand or who have graduated in Medicine in one of these countries. They must have been domiciled in the above mentioned countries for not less than six months immediately prior to entering for the examination. For admission to the Primary M.Med (Int. Med) standalone exam, there is no nationality restriction.

Applicants must satisfy points 1 to 6 in the above criteria. (Note: It is not mandatory for local applicants to apply for the joint exam)

ADMISSION In the event of an overwhelming response where the number of applications received exceeds the number of exam placements, priority will be given to Singapore local trainees and applicants who are residing in Singapore. Acknowledgement of receipt of application does not guarantee a placement for the exam. DGMS reserves the right to reject an application without giving any reasons.

APPLICATION FORMS Application form for the NUS Primary M.Med Written Exam could be downloaded from www.med.nus.edu.sg/dgms Application forms for the MRCP (UK) Part 1 Written Exam (Form A and Form B for new entrant and Form B for reentrant) Examinations could be downloaded from www.mrcpuk.org Submission of documentary evidence of primary medical qualification is compulsory for new entrant. Photocopies of certificates and/or official translations (in English)* will be accepted only if they have been prepared and/or authenticated by one of the following: the issuing University or Medical School; a British Consulate or British Council outside the UK; the British Embassy; the British High Commission; the candidates own Embassy or High Commission in the United Kingdom; a member of the Gardai in the Irish Republic; Government Ministries of Health; a Fellow or Member of the College or a Chair of the Examining Board of the awarding body (verification of the Fellow or Member will be sought to ensure that they are affiliated with the issuing University/Medical School and the authenticated copy should be submitted with an accompanying official stamp/letter from the Fellow, Member or Chair). * Candidates must submit an authenticated translation if their primary medical degree certificate is not in English. The RCP College reserves the right to request to see the original documents if there is any doubt as to the authenticity of the submitted copies of documents.

APPLICATION & EXAM FEES (all fees are subject to change without prior notice) A candidate will pay one fee if he/she enters either the Primary M.Med or the MRCP (UK) Part 1 Examination. Both fees must be paid if the applicant wishes to take the joint examination. ALL APPLICATIONS / FEES MUST REACH THE DIVISION BY THE RESPECTIVE CLOSING DATES. APPLICATIONS RECEIVED BEYOND THE APPLICATION PERIOD WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AND WILL BE RETURNED TO SENDER.

EXAM WITHDRAWAL Notice of withdrawal from the examination must be given in writing to the Division accompanied by the original receipt for fee paid. The entire fee, less application fee (S$40.00), will be refunded when notice of withdrawal is received before the UK closing date (16 November 2012 for January 2013 diet and 12 July 2013 for September 2013 diet). There will be no refund for any notice of withdrawal received after the closing date. Notice of withdrawal from the examination must be given in writing to the Division accompanied by the admission document if received. The entire fee, less 10% administration charge, will be refunded when notice of withdrawal is received before the UK closing date (16 November 2012 for January 2013 diet and 12 July 2013 for September 2013 diet). There will be no refund for any notice of withdrawal received after the closing date.
