George Washington (1732-1799) was the first President of the United States*, and a major figure in the establishment

of the US, during and following the Revolutionary War. He is known as one of the Founding Fathers of the country, as well as being given the nickname "Father of His Country".

He fought with the Virginia Militia on the British side during the "French and Indian Wars", the American colonial front of the European "Seven Years' War" (1754-1763). He commanded the armies of the US Colonies in the Revolutionary War (1775-1783). As a member of the First and Second Continental Congress, he helped draft the policies of the colonies, and was made commanding general of the Continental Army on June 14, 1775 (so he was not a signatory to the Declaration of Independence). He was a Virginia delegate again, and President of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, which adopted the Constitution to replace the Articles of Confederation. As President, Washington established the framework of the national executive branch. He oversaw the work to build a new national capital, and it was named Washington, DC, in his honor.

He was the first voted President of the United States of America, between April 30, 1789 and March 3, 1797. George Washington was the general of the American Army, fighting for the independence of the U. S. A. against the Great Britain. In 1775 he was the Supreme Commander of the military force of the colonies rebelled against England. He won the victories of Saratoga (1777) and Yorktown (1781). He obtained the Independence of the United States of America. In 1787 he adopted the Constitution of the U. S. A. His politics, as a President, was a conservatory one, being the adept of isolationism. He didn't agree the alliance with other European nations in the case of a conflict and neither the interference of the U. S. A. in the politics of the other states. He passed away on December 14, 1799 in Mount Vernon, Virginia.

George Washington was born on February 22 (February 11, according to the Old Style calendar), 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Washington was an American general and commander-in-chief of the colonial armies in the American Revolution (177583) and, subsequently, the first president of the United States (178997). He died on December 14, 1799 in Mount Vernon, Virginia.
