Temporary Employment Opportunity

Washington State University Natural Resources Project Coordinator Part Time (19.5 hours weekly through June, 10 15 hours July December)

General Description: Plan, implement, teach and evaluate natural resource educational programming. Coordinate education, research and stewardship projects with natural resource volunteers. Assist in the development of educational events and public involvement projects for the Sustainable Community Stewards program (formerly Carbon Masters). Program topics focus on lifestyle choices that will reduce carbon footprints of a variety of audiences. Work may require working in outdoor settings in Snohomish County, lifting loads of up to 25 pounds and working in an office environment. Reliable transportation required. Location: Everett, Washington. Travel required and reimbursed. Duration: January 2013 December 2013, with possibility of extension if funding becomes available. Line of Responsibility: Reports to the Snohomish County Extension Beach Watcher / Shore Steward Coordinator. Responsibilities 1. Support and encourage Sustainable Community Stewards (formerly Carbon Masters) volunteers. Design and support of project and events. 2. Design and implement 40+ hour volunteer training involving numerous guest presenters. Coordinate selected natural resource projects, as identified with the WSU Snohomish County Extension Beach Watcher Coordinator. 3. Design, produce and distribute program outreach, communication and report materials, including website content, topical newsletters and strategic plans. 4. Conduct science-based evaluation of education or volunteer project outcomes. 5. Work independently and make decisions based on prior experiences, in effective and frequent communication with appropriate natural resources staff. 6. Prepare written grant reports and develop funding opportunities. 7. Other duties as determined by the Supervisor. Qualifications Three years of experience and / or education: 1) designing outreach / promotional materials, especially with a grounding in social marketing; 2) coordinate teams of volunteers, including fostering leadership of volunteers; and 3) coordinate environmental education, research and stewardship projects. Knowledge of Puget Sound natural resource issues, especially climate change, solid waste and sustainability. Able to coordinate multiple projects, deadlines and events while keeping a larger program vision in mind. Competency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Confident communicator in both the spoken and written word. Preferred Qualifications: Competent with Contribute and desktop graphic design. Familiarity with social justice components of sustainability. Experience in grant writing, reporting and fundraising.

Fluent in Spanish Relevant Bachelors or Masters degree. Familiarity with science-based evaluation techniques.

Pay This is a temporary position with possibility of expansion and / or more hours if funds become available. The pay rate is $15.00-16.00 per hour. There is not a benefit package with this position.
