Profile of Ms.

Sadaf Aslam
I am Sadaf Aslam, born on 11-04-1977, in city Lahore (River of Institutions). My family has a modern and educated background as my father is MSc. (Hons) in Agriculture. He is retired from post of Director Agriculture and Economics. I have four siblings, and all of us were fortunate enough to have access to education. I received my initial schooling from Leeds Academy High School; it was English medium Private school. I cannot claim to be the first educated person of my family but definitely I was the first Veterinary Doctor of entire family. During my stay at UVAS Lahore, I participated in many scientific activities as representative of different scientific societies. I had been president of Society of Veterinary Physiology and arranged many scientific presentations and exhibitions during that period. I also used to participate in various co-curricular activities like debates and sports. I have won multiple national level prizes in debates, as well. Having an urban background, I am much more passionate and confident. I also worked as Product Manger in Human Pharmaceutical Company and also as Medical Transcriptionist and Quality Control Manager in Abacus Transcript. I studied for six years. I got DVM degree in year 2000 and M.Sc (hons) degree from University of Veterinary Medicine Lahore in 2003. Then I was selected as Lecturer through Public Services Commission in the same University in year 2004 and remained involved in teaching for three years prior to applying for HEC scholarship. The selection process was a rigorous starting from a GRE-based test. After being short listed by HEC, I appeared before an interviewing panel, comprising of foreign faculty members. After the interviews the successful applicants were advised to formally apply for admission, in the Austrian University, identified by HEC. When my admission was confirmed in a University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, in the PhD program, I was offered scholarship by HEC. It was a moment of great pride for me and my family. It was not an ordinary feast for a girl of a mediocre family to have won a prestigious Government scholarship, which was contested by thousands. The opportunity of studying in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment in Austria, which has significant chemical and petrochemical industry and tourist place, broadened my horizon. I was introduced to Ruminants Clinical Department where there were new recent diagnostic facilities of my interest. I learnt different ways of diagnostic technique and hands-on training in cattle and sheep farming and treatment procedures. My treatment skill improved a lot and this personality development actually enhanced my selfconfidence. Higher studies is not all about memorizing books or understanding existing knowledge. It extends beyond that, i.e you struggle to bring innovation in your thinking pattern. I was provided with ample guidance by the world class faculty in Austria who were always there to help me broaden my frontiers of knowledge. During the course of my PhD (Veterinary Medicine) studies in Vienna, Austria, I worked for two publications two papers in VJ (The Veterinary Journal). My core expertise is in the field of Ultrasonography and my focused area of research is Clinical Diagnosis in Ruminants. Pakistan is a major agriculture country of the world and I want to see my country being acknowledged as well equipped in animal diagnostic field. A large number of animal die every year for poor diagnosis and late treatment. I am confident to add value, by sharing my hands-on training in Veterinary Diagnostic Field. This field has a great potential for local consumption of milk and meat as well as for foreign exports.

I wish to see the complete diagnostic unit for animals in Pakistan as well. This is not an un-attainable target, for I know, that every accomplishment begins with a clear vision of the future. We have the right ingredients to make our country prosper in every field.
