EL ESTADO DE PLASMA
El plasma es por mucho la forma ms comn de la materia. El plasma en las estrellas y en el espacio constituyen ms de 99% del universo visible y quizs la mayora de lo que no es visible. El plasma consiste en una coleccin de electrones de libre movimiento e iones de tomos que han perdido electrones. Se necesita energa para despojar electrones de los tomos y hacer plasma. La energia puede ser de varios origenes : trmica, elctrica, o luz (ultravioleta o la intensa luz visible de un lser).
El plasma puede acelerarse y ser dirigido por campos elctricos y magnticos que permiten controlarlo y aplicarlo. La investigacin del plasma est rindiendo una comprensin mayor del universo.. Tambin proporciona muchos usos prcticos: nuevas tcnicas industriales, productos para el consumidor, y la perspectiva de energa abundante.

EL ESTADO DE PLASMA
El elemento central en una luz fluorescente es el Plasma, un gas compuesto de iones con libre movimiento (tomos cargados elctricamente) y electrones (partculas cargadas negativamente). Bajo condiciones normales un gas se compone principalmente de partculas no cargadas. Esto significa que cada tomo de gas incluye igual nmero de protones (partculas positivamente cargadas en el ncleo del tomo) y electrones. Los electrones negativamente cargados equilibran perfectamente a los protones positivamente cargados, as que el tomo tiene una carga neta de cero. Si se introducen muchos electrones libres en el gas por medio de un voltaje elctrico a travs de l, la situacin cambia muy rpidamente. Los electrones libres chocan con los tomos, al golpearlos libern otros electrones. Con un electrn perdido, un tomo pierde su equilibrio, Ahora tiene una carga neta positiva, convirtiendolo en un ion positivo. En un plasma con una corriente elctrica que lo atraviesa, las partculas negativamente cargadas estn apresurndose hacia el rea positiva del plasma, y las partculas positivamente cargadas estn apresurndose hacia el rea negativa.

Las partculas estn chocando constantemente entre ellas. Estas colisiones excitan los tomos de gas en el plasma, originando la liberacin de fotones de energa.

LA CELDA DE PLASMA
En su forma ms simple, una celda de Plasma consiste en dos placas de vidrio separadas por un espacio lleno de gas. El color es dependiente de la mezcla del gas. En las caras Internas de las placas estan dos electrodos transparentes fijos horizontal y verticalmente cubiertos por una capa delgada de vidrio aislante.
Los electrodos se conectan a una fuente de poder, esta fuente genera corriente alterna al modelo de carga. La direccin positiva ( + ) (no el lado cargado positivamente) es mostrado en la figura y la direccin negativa es la designada por el signo negativo ( - ).

LA CELDA DE PLASMA
La fuente de poder genera un Voltaje de Sostenimiento (Vs sustain voltage) igual a medio Voltaje de Encendido (1/2Vf - firing voltage ) para la mezcla gas. Para encender la celda es necesario una Seal de Encendido (Vfs - firing signal voltage) igual tambien a 1/2 Vf. Una vez que esto ocurre las dos cantidades se suman ( Vs + Vfs = Vf ) y se enciende el gas. Esto es solo la medio ciclo. Vfs se desconecta y Vs se pone en cero (0) por un instante y slo hay un voltaje en el interior de la celda (V1) qu es igual a 1/2 Vf en ese instante y ningn voltaje externo (Vs), cuando el generador cambia de d ireccin hay una cantidad de electrones y carga positiva en el interior de la celda (V1). Al sumar los voltajes V1+Vs obtenemos Vf nuevamnete y la celda se enciede. Vfs firing signal voltage : es solo necesario para iniciar el encendido Cambiar el voltaje (Vs) de las paredes de cristal mantiene encendida la celda

LA CELDA DE PLASMA
EL PDP es la ltima tecnologa de pantallas y la mejor manera de lograr imagenes con calidad excelente y los tamaos grandes visibles en cualquier ambiente. El PDP puede verse como un descendiente de la lmpara de nen y tambin ha sido sido modelado como una serie de lmparas fluorescentes. PDP es una serie de celdas conocidas como pixeles que estan compuestas de 3 subpixeles, correspondiendo a los colores rojo, verde, y azul. El Gas en un estado de plasma se usa para reaccionar con Fsforo en cada uno de los sub-pixeles para producir luz de color. Estos Fsforos son del mismo tipo que los usados en el CRT para los dispositivos como televisiones y monitores de computadora. Usted obtiene los colores vivos y dinmicos que espera. Cada sub-pixel es controlado individualmente por electrnica avanzada para producir ms de 16 millones de colores diferentes. Todos esto significa que usted consigue imgenes perfectas que son fcilmente visibles en una pantalla que tiene menos de 5 pulgadas de grueso.

LA CELDA DE PLASMA
Los electrodos transparentes estan rodeados por un material dielectrico y son cubiertos por una capa protectora de xido de magnesio, estan montados sobre la celda a lo largo de la placa frontal de vidrio.
Los electrodos para despliege de imagen se colocan en filas horizontales a lo largo de la pantalla y los electrodos de direccin se colocan en columnas vertical es, los electrodos verticales y horizontales forman una reja bsica (matriz).

Para ionizar el gas en una celda particular, el ordenador de la pantalla carga los electrodos que se cruzan en esa celda, esto lo hace miles de veces en un pequeo fragmento de segundo, cargando cada celda a la vez.

LA CELDA DE PLASMA
Los fotones ultravioletas liberados interactan con el material de fsforo que recubre la pared interior de la celda. El fsforo es substancia que emite luz cuando se le expone a otra luz. Cuando un fotn ultravioleta golpea a un tomo del fsforo en la celda, uno de los electrones de fsforo salta a un nivel de energa ms alto y el tomo se calienta, cuando el electrn regresa a su nivel normal, suelta energa en forma de fotn visible.
