ORDER OF WORSHIP

Hymn of Praise
GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN
Go tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and evrywhere, Go tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born.

Chorus

While shepherds kept their watching Oer silent flocks by night, Behold, Throughout the heavens, there shone a Holy light.

Verse 1

The shepherds feared and trembled When lo! above the earth, rang out the Angel chorus, that hailed our Saviors birth.

Verse 2

Down in a lowly manger, the humble Christ was born, and God sent us Salvation, that blessed Christmas morn.

Unison Scriptures
JOHN 1:1-5, 14 (NIV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

JAMES 3:6-12 (The Message)

It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.
6

14

My friends, this cant go on. A spring doesnt gush fresh water one day and brackish the next, does it? Apple trees dont bear strawberries, do they? Raspberry bushes dont bear apples, do they? Youre not going to dip into a polluted mud hole and get a cup of clear, cool water, are you?

UNISON SCRIPTURES

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

This is scary: You can tame a tiger, but you cant tame a tongueits never been done. The tongue runs wild, a wanton killer. With our tongues we bless God our Father; with the same tongues we curse the very men and women he made in his image. Curses and blessings out of the same mouth!
7-10

Confession of Sins
Almighty and Most Merciful Father, we come before You, acknowledging our sins, our shortcomings, and our breaking of our Covenant with You. Not only have we done things we ought not to have done, said things we ought not to have said, left undone so many things we ought to have done and been silent when we should have witnessed for You. Not only are we guilty of that, O Lord; but we have also closed our eyes and pretended not to see the injustices, the racism and the evil which pervade our everyday lives. We have shut our ears and pretended not to hear the cries for liberation which come from the lips, lives and hearts of the oppressed even our own Black brothers and sisters! Forgive us, O Lord, renew our courage and faith, and keep us ever mindful of Thy great sacrifice. Hear us, we beseech Thee, as we come to You in love and worship giving Your Name the praise forevermore. ****** To All Our Visitors ... To all who mourn and need comforting ... To all who are friendless and want friendship ... To all who are oppressed and need liberation; and to whosoever will come, Trinity opens its doors. Thank you for coming, and may God bless you.

Stewardship Tithing Litany

Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Together: Tithing is the biblical principle of returning 10% to God first. The earth is the Lords, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. Debt is a spiritual issue. We are robbing Gods people when we live beyond our means, refuse to budget, invest, save, and tithe; we are seduced by debt. The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is Mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers. Tithing, budgeting, and stewardship are the solutions to the spiritual problem of debt. Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. STEWARDSHIP TITHING LITANY Debt is fed by the desire for immediate gratification, poor planning, and the need to keep up appearances. His master replied, Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your masters happiness! Tithing, saving, budgeting, and good stewardship of resources is the calling of all Christians. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Debt slavery has been used since 1863 to prevent people of African descent from gaining power and independence. Share with the Lords people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Our ancestors were forced into slavery. Today, we volunteer to be enslaved by debt and we mortgage our childrens future. O God, we have been called to be a debt-free congregation. We are called to teach our community, children, and grandchildren the discipline of tithing, the power of budgeting, the blessing of saving, and the benefit of investing. We desire to live debt-free because it honors God and our ancestors, who died not for debt, but that we may live free with our God. Amen.

Faith Communities and High School Screening Opportunities for The House I Live In
Charlotte Street Films and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference have partnered to host screenings of The House I Live In, an award winning documentary film that dissects the War on Drugs through insightful interviews with every aspect of the transactional cycle: drug abuser, dealer, police officer, prosecutor, judge, and corrections officer. The House I Live In delivers an emotional reality - The War on Drugs is an abject failure, destroying lives, families and communities, and people of conscious should be outraged and recognize the need for immediate change to this cornerstone in the epidemic of mass incarceration in America. Presented as 2013 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Commemorative Events, if you are member of a faith institution, a high school administrator, or activist student, details of the screening opportunities are as follows: For Faith Communities - National Screenings, Saturday, January 12, 2013. To register, visit http://tinyurl.com/SDPCFaithScreening For High Schools - National Screenings, Friday, January 18, 2013. To register, visit http://tinyurl.com/SDPCHighSchoolScreening The Next Movement screened this film at Trinity United Church of Christ on November 4, 2012; it was an emotionally charged event - what a gift to the fight to end mass incarceration! Churches and schools should make every effort to participate in this mind-changing opportunity!

Green Page

EASY WAYS TO START YOUR NEW YEAR "GREEN" Lets resolve in 2013 to take a few small steps each month toward a greener, healthier lifestyle.
Beat phantom power. Leaving appliances, such as cell phone chargers, coffeemakers, televisions and computers, plugged into outlets and on standby uses a small amount of electricity. This is very real when paying your monthly bill. Unplug these appliances or switch them off at a power strip. Turn things off. Turn off the lights in empty rooms. Turn off the computer if it will be unused for more than two hours, and turn off the monitor if it will be unused for more than twenty minutes. Turn things down. Reduce the thermostat by two to five degrees in winter. Avoid the burn. Choose a microwave or toaster oven over a regular oven. When you have to use a regular oven, do not open the door to check cooking progress doing so lets out heat. When using the stove, match the pan or pot size to the stovetop element and keep a lid on the pan or pot to make cooking more efficient. Keep appliances clean.

RAISING LEADERS and DEVELOPING DISCIPLES

January Matthew 16:24 (NLT) Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me." February Luke 4:18-19 (NIV) The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lords favor. March Luke 10:19 (NIV) I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. April Romans 10:1-2 (NLT) Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is for the people of Israel to be saved. I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal. May 1 Corinthians 13:8 (NIV) Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. June Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. July Philippians 4:13 (NLT) For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. August Jeremiah 1-7 (NLT) The Lord replied, Dont say, Im too young, for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you." September Isaiah 1:3 (NLT) Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its masters carebut Israel doesnt know its master. My people dont recognize my care for them. October Isaiah 40:29 (KJV) He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. November John 17:21 (KJV) That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. December Matthew 1:23 (KJV) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Jesus answered, Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. John 4:13-14 NIV
