1.Upotreba

The present continuous tense is used : To talk about something which is happening at the time of speaking. e.g. Where is your father? He is working in the garden. To talk about activities which are happening around the time of speaking but not necessarily exactly at the time of speaking. e.g. Have you heard about Nick? He is making a demo tape. To talk about definite arrangments in the future. e.g. Mary is taking three A levels in June.

1. We use the Present Continuous Tense to talk about activities happening now. Examples The kids are watching TV. I am sitting down, because I am tired. I am not learning German, because this is an English class. Who are you writing to? 2. We can also use the Present Continuous Tense to talk about activities happening around now, and not necessarily this very moment. Examples Sally is studying really hard for her exams this week. I am reading a really interesting book now. How are you brushing up on your English for the trip? We aren't working hard these days.

3. The Present Continuous Tense is also used to talk about activities happening in the near future, especially for planned future events. Examples I am seeing my dentist on Wednesday. Polly is coming for dinner tomorrow. Are you doing anything tonight? We aren't going on holiday next week.

USE 1 Now

Use the Present Continuous with Normal Verbs to express the idea that something is happening now, at this very moment. It can also be used to show that something is not happening now. Examples:

You are learning English now. You are not swimming now. Are you sleeping? I am sitting. I am not standing. Is he sitting or standing? They are reading their books. They are not watching television. What are you doing? Why aren't you doing your homework?

USE 2 Longer Actions in Progress Now

In English, "now" can mean: this second, today, this month, this year, this century, and so on. Sometimes, we use the Present Continuous to say that we are in the process of doing a longer action which is in progress; however, we might not be doing it at this exact second. Examples: (All of these sentences can be said while eating dinner in a restaurant.)

I am studying to become a doctor.

I am not studying to become a dentist. I am reading the book Tom Sawyer. I am not reading any books right now. Are you working on any special projects at work? Aren't you teaching at the university now?

USE 3 Near Future

Sometimes, speakers use the Present Continuous to indicate that something will or will not happen in the near future. Examples:

I am meeting some friends after work. I am not going to the party tonight. Is he visiting his parents next weekend? Isn't he coming with us tonight?

USE 4 Repetition and Irritation with "Always"

The Present Continuous with words such as "always" or "constantly" expresses the idea that something irritating or shocking often happens. Notice that the meaning is like Simple Present, but with negative emotion. Remember to put the words "always" or "constantly" between "be" and "verb+ing." Examples:

She is always coming to class late. He is constantly talking. I wish he would shut up. I don't like them because they are always complaining

2.Tvorba

3.Upitni i odrini oblik

Upitni oblik se gradi inverzijom (zamjenim mijesta). e.g. I am waching. M I waching?

Odrini oblik se tvori dodavanjem rijeice not na oblike glagola TO BE. e.g. You are waching. You are not waching. You aren`t waching.

Upitno odrini oblik e.g. Are you not waching? Aren`t you waching?

Tekst primjer (present continuous tense)

On a British street a policeman stops a car. In the car there is a visitor from another country. Policeman: (holding up his hand) Stop! Visitor: (in car) What`s the matter? Policeman: Why are you driving on the right side of the road? Visitor: Do you want me to drive on the wrong side? Policeman: You are driving on the wrong side. Visitor: But you said I was driving on the right side. Policeman: That`s right. You`re on the right, and that`s wrong. Visitor: A strange country! If right is wrong, I am right when I am on the wrong side. So why did you stop me? Policeman: My dear sir, you must keep to the left. The right side is the left. Visitor: It`s like a looking-glass! I`ll try to remember. Well, I want to go to Bellwood. Will you kindly tell me the way? Policeman: Certainly. At the end of this road turn left.
