Course Description:
Welcome to GPS Geometry! I am looking forward to a fun and successful year with all of you. We will study polygons, circles, coordinate geometry, and many other subjects. Most importantly, know that this will be different from most other math class that you have taken in the past. This course is designed to drive you toward and prepare you for college. We will learn how to study and think like college mathematicians. We will hear from guest speakers, research colleges, and most importantly learn how to get in. Along with preparing for the EOCT, we will be preparing for the ACT. Everyone will take both tests at the end of the year. I expect every student to come to class on time, prepared, and ready to work. If you do, you WILL succeed in my class. I will make sure of it.
Absence Policy:
All important assignments will be posted online. If a student is absent from class, all missed assignments must be turned in on the day the student returns (as well as the homework due that day).
Late Work:
I dont accept late work.
Tardy Policy:
Tardiness will not be tolerated. Tardy students must have a signed pass from a teacher or administrator in order to be excused. If not, the student will have to serve a 30 minute detention.
Cheating:
Cheating will not be tolerated. Cheating on any assignment will result in an automatic zero (0%) and parents will be notified. Cheating during a test includes: looking at someone elses test, using notes, using any form of a cheat sheet, letting someone else look at your test, telling anyone answers before, during or after a test. Cheating on homework includes: copying someone elses work, allowing someone to copy your work.
Bathroom Policy:
You will receive 3 passes. You must use a pass each time you leave class to go to the
Food/Drinks:
Only water in a bottle is allowed in the classroom. If I notice food/drink in my class the choice is: put it away or throw it away.
Cell Phones:
Cell phones are not allowed in class. They must be put away, silent, and out of sight during class.
Detention Policy
Detention is not fun. You will more than likely be cleaning or moving boxes. I expect each student to serve his or her detention on the day that I assign it. If there is an extenuating circumstance, it possibly can be moved to the next day. If it is not served on time, I will contact the students parent and the student will now serve two detentions. If those are not served on time, the student will be referred to administration.
My Promise
I know that we are all coming into this class with very different experience in math. Some of us love it and some of us hate. Many of us are floating somewhere in between. I cannot control what type of math experience you have had in the past. I can only control what goes on inside of room K-112 during this school year. I promise that if you come to class prepared each day and work as hard as you possibly can, you will be successful in this class and your grade will reflect that.
By signing below, I am indicating that I have read the mathematics syllabus. I understand the policies and consequences listed in it.
