Lesson Plan: Vocabulary GOALS OF MY LESSON: After todays lesson, my students will be able to Have a basic understanding of the

the vocab words I am introducing Work cooperatively in pairs and during the flyswatter activity Organize information in an efficient way for their word maps

MATERIALS: Poster Markers Projector/Smart Board Flyswatters (clean) ACTIVITY (38 Minutes) Have students work with their seat partners on the poster. Each group will get a sentence including a vocab word that is from the Mississippi Trial 1955 worksheet. They will have to make a word map based on the template I show on the screen. (definition, example, related ideas will be the boxes they draw and fill in) (10 minutes). Have each group go up and present their word. While they are presenting, the other students will be required to fill in the Important Words To Know worksheet in their Mississippi Trial 1955. I will also present each word on the projector after they are defined (18 minutes). Fly swatter activity: The words will be on the Projector without their definitions. I will have the students come up in their seat partner pairs. I will read a definition, and the students have to try and smack the correct word before the other person. I would keep reusing the words for this whole activity to make sure every student has a chance. (10 minutes)
