The "Salafee" call is that of the Quraan and Sunnah, pure and free from any additions, deletions,

and alterations. It is the path of the first three generations of Muslims. How they understood and implemented the Religion of Allaah . As the Prophet ( ) said: "The best of mankind is my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them" (Bukhaaree and Muslim). The following is a brief explanation of their way: Who are the Salaf and the Salafees? The Salaf are the pious earliest generations of Muslims. This title refers to the Companions of the Prophet ( ), their followers and those who followed them. Their importance was emphasised by the Prophet ( ). He ( ) said, "There shall not cease to remain a group from my nation victorious upon the Truth, they are unharmed by those who abandon them and those who oppose them. They will remain in that state until they fight the false messiah, the Dajjaal" (Saheeh Muslim). He ( ) clarified that this victorious group would be his Companions ( ) and those who followed them when he ( ) said "And this nation of Muslims will divide into 73 sects, all of them will go to the Fire except one" and when asked which is the saved sect, he replied: "That which I and my Companions are upon today" (Tirmidhee, authentic). A "Salafee", therefore is any individual who keenly and sincerely follows the way of the Salaf to the best of his ability. What Are The Basic Fundamentals That The Salaf Were Upon? (1) (2) (3) Submitting to Allaah alone in His Lordship, Worship and Names and Qualities. Adherence to the way of the Prophet ( ) in every aspect of life. Purification of the soul based upon clear texts of the Qu'raan and Sunnah

my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them" (Bukhaaree and Muslim). This attachment is not to a single person or persons who we blindly follow without question. But, rather this is an attachment to those early generations as a whole. This is because individuals can make mistakes, but the early Muslims as a whole were promised they would never unite on falsehood. As the Prophet ( ) said My Ummah will not unite upon misguidance (Tirmidhee, Saheeh). Thus all true Muslims should want to be Salafee. After all, who better to follow than the Best of Mankind. Was The Term Salaf Or Salafee Used By The Early Muslims? Yes, the term was used by the Prophet ( ) himself, when he told Faatimah: "I am for you a blessed Salaf" (Saheeh Muslim). Also Imaam Aboo Haneefah (d. 150H) and Imam al-Awzaa'ee (d. 157H) ordered the people to stick to the way of the Salaf just to name, but two. We also find this term used by Imaam at-Tirmidhee (d. 279H), Imaam Ahmed ibn Hanbal (d. 241H), Imaam as-Samaanee (d. 571H), Imaam Daruqutnee, Imaam ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728H), Imaam Ibn Katheer (d. 774H). Of the scholars of recent times who used or attach themselves to this title are Shaykh al-Albaanee, Shaykh Ibn Baaz, Shaykh Ibnul-Uthaymeen (rahimahumullaah) and Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (May Allaah shower His mercy upon them all) amongst many others. Thus, this title is neither new nor part of a newly invented party or group, but has been used over the last 1400 years by some of the greatest of Islamic scholars. What Are The Aims Of The Salafee Da'wah? 1. A return to the Qu'raan and the Sunnah of the Prophet ( ) in every aspect of life and to understand them both according to how the Companions of the Prophet and those who followed them understood them (may Allah be pleased with them all). Acting upon the statement of Allah, "If anyone contends with the Messenger, even after the Guidance has been plainly conveyed to him, and follows a path other than that of the Believers (i.e. the Companions), We shall leave him in the path he has chosen and land him in Hell. What an evil refuge!" (Qur'aan, 4:115). And Allaah's saying,

"So if they believe as you (i.e. the Prophet ( ) and His Companions, believe) they are indeed on the right path" (Qur'aan, 2:137) 2. To purify everything related to the life of the Muslim from shirk (associating partners with Allah in its various forms) and to warn against bid'ah (innovations) in beliefs and in acts of worship: and from false ideas introduced from outside and to cleanse the Sunnah of the weak and fabricated narrations which have tarnished the pure nature of Islaam and have been a cause of the prevention of the progress of Muslims. As the Prophet ( ) said, "This knowledge will be carried by the trustworthy ones of every generation, they will expel from it the alterations made by those going beyond bounds and the false claims of the liars and the false interpretations of the ignorant." (Authentic, Ibn Adee, Ibn Asaakir). And in obedience to the order of Allah, "Help one another in righteousness and piety, but do not help one another in sin and enmity" (Qur'aan, 5:2) 3. To educate and cultivate the Muslims upon their true deen (religion) calling them to act according to its rules and to cultivate in themselves its morality and manners, which will ensure the pleasure of Allaah and result in their welfare and honour, as Allaah says, "Join together in the mutual teaching of truth and of patient perseverance." (Qur'aan, 103:3) And, "Be you people of wisdom and knowledge, for you have taught the Book and studied it earnestly." (Qur'aan, 3:79) 4. To revive true Islaamic thought in light of the Book and Sunnah upon the methodology of the Salaf of this ummah. To remove the stagnated blind-following of madhaabs and blind fanaticism of hizbiyyah (parties and party spirit) which has overcome the minds of many Muslims and has distracted them from the clear and pure Islaamic Brotherhood as demanded by the order of Allaah, "Hold fast altogether to the rope of Allah and do not be divided amongst yourselves" (Qur'aan, 3:103) And the saying of the Prophet ( ) "Be worshippers of Allaah and brothers" (Bukharee and Muslim).

Why Do We Call Ourselves Salafees? We call ourselves Salafees because we want to attach ourselves to the Salaf. That is the people, the Prophet ( ) mentioned when he said: "The best of mankind is

5. To provide practical Islaamic solutions for present-day problems, and to strive for returning to a true Islaamic way of life, upon the way of the Prophet ( ), seeking to bring about a society guided by revelation and for the Laws of Allaah to be applied upon earth. Beginning this process with correction (tasfiyah) and cultivation and education (tarbiyyah) as Allah says, "Teach them the Book and the wisdom and purify them" (Qur'aan 2:129). Whilst remembering the saying of our Lord to His Prophet ( ) "Whether We show you in this life a part of what We promise them, or whether We take your soul before that - It is to Us that they shall all return" (Qur'aan 40:77). And also realising the Sharee'ah principle: "He who seeks to hasten to bring something about before its appointed time is punished by being deprived of its achievement." 6. This is our call and invitation which will revive and uplift the Muslims (insha'Allaah) - and help spread the perpetual message of Islaam to all corners of the Earth. Having full confidence in the help of Allaah and of the fact that He will indeed establish and grant authority to His righteous servants: "But honour belongs to Allaah and His Messenger and to the Believers." (Qur'aan, 63:8) And, "It is He who sent His Messenger with the Guidance and the religion of Truth, that He may make it prevail over all the religions, even though the disbelievers may detest it!" (Qur'aan, 61:9). So whichever call is not built upon these foundations, and whatever methodology is not from the methodology of the Messengers (may peace be on them all), then it will be frustrated and fail and it will be without benefit. The clearest proof of this is those present-day groups which set out a methodology for themselves, and their call is different to the methodology of the Messengers. Who is more astray than the one who follows his own desires without guidance from Allaah (Quraan, 28:50)

Shall we tell you of those who have lost most with respect to their actions? Those whose efforts have been wasted in this life whilst they thought they were acquiring good by their actions (Quraan, 18:103-4) These groups have neglected the importance of aqeedah (correct belief and creed) and instead call for the correction of side issues. Rather, it is tawheed (singling out Allaah alone in worship by having knowledge of Him) which strengthens the heart, becoming stronger and firmer as your knowledge and worship of Allaah increases. Then as a result, one's good deeds will likewise multiply. Then the Muslims will realise the saying of Allaah, "Allaah has promised to those amongst you who believe and do righteous actions that He will certainly grant them succession (khilaafah) on the earth, as he granted it to those before them; and He will grant them authority to practice their religion, the one that He has chosen for them: and He will change their state from one of fear in which they lived to one of peace and security. They will worship Me alone, not associating any partners with Me. But, whosoever disbelieves after this, then they are the rebellious ones." (Qur'aan 24:55) So a person with understanding would see that worshipping Allaah alone, correct belief and righteous actions is the road to success. And Allaah's aid is sought. He is the Lord of the Worlds.
