Let Him Sing

James 5:13 There may be no more beautiful sound than the sound of the human voice. We know voices that mean more than we can describe. The familiar voice of someone we love brings warmth and comfort to the listening heart. The injured or frightened child longs for the sound of a mothers securing voice. We want to hear the voices of national leaders in the midst of crisis. Voices have power. Simon and Garfunkel had great a pop hit with the Sounds of Silence. Still, in difficult times, it is not silence that we long to hear, it is the moving power of the human voice. Perhaps, the human voice is at its very best when it puts itself to music. Song is the vocal artistry of the soul. It challenges the poetic mind to incorporate the dramatic sense of the actor into a vibrant presentation. Singing has the ability to calm the most troubled spirit, or rouse the most ambivalent heart. We love the sound of singing. It might be a childrens choir singing a holiday favorite. It might be a beauty queen belting the National Anthem. It might be an entire stadium joining together to boast the power of a team with the traditional fight song. It might be the person next to you emphatically recounting the beauty of the Cross with an emotion choked voice. We love the sound of singing as it rings in our ears and reverberates within our hearts. James reminds us that if we are cheerful we should sing psalms. God appreciates the artistry and presentation of singing from a cheerful, thankful heart. Remember, it isnt the beauty of the voice, but of the heart. So, lets sing. Russ
