    Sam Cowan grew lettuce hydroponically using a deep water culture system. The system uses pumps to circulate water and air to the plant roots submerged in nutrient solution. Seeds were germinated in grow cubes then transplanted to the deep water culture system. The goals were to locally grow organic lettuce for the school in a controlled, year-round system that uses fewer resources than traditional agriculture. The accomplishments so far include a functioning deep water culture system with lettuce seeds germinating and growing.

    Summary
    Senior Project: Continuing this project and goals to
    supply lettuce to the school at a constant rate, and possible tomatoes

    Only problem is energy intensive compared to other


    systems. Possible solar panel in future
