Technology

Smarter, Safer Fiesta

New Ford Fiesta has been awarded a maximum 5-star safety rating by independent crash test authority Euro NCAP and is crammed full of technologies designed to both reduce accident risk and help occupants in the event of a collision. New Fiesta is the first car in Europe to feature Fords MyKey technology, which enables parents to place certain restrictions on young drivers to promote safer driving by limiting the vehicles top speed and lowering the maximum volume of the audio system. It also provides earlier low fuel warnings, prevents safety features including Electronic Stability Control and Active City Stop from being deactivated, and mutes the audio system if the driver and front seat passenger fail to buckle up. The Active City Stop low-speed collision avoidance technology available on New Fiesta is designed to help prevent shunts at speeds up to 15 km/h. It uses a sophisticated light detecting and ranging sensor to scan the road ahead 50 times every second for stationary or slow-moving traffic. If it detects a collision is likely and the driver does not respond, it automatically applies the brakes, reduces engine torque, and activates the rear hazard lights.

Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance offered on New Fiesta can alert local emergency services operators in 26 European languages if the car is involved in an accident and the occupants are unconscious, injured or confused. It uses information from the vehicles on-board GPS unit, map and mobile network to pinpoint accident location. It then calls the pan-European 112 emergency number via an occupants Bluetoothconnected mobile phone.

The new Ford Fiesta delivers advanced connectivity, entertainment, safety and convenience features for drivers and passengers.

Quality

Style with Substance

New Fiesta raises the luxury bar in the small car sector with its dynamic exterior and harmonious and ergonomic interior offering new and enhanced features. Externally, New Fiesta features a sharper design inspired by the latest Ford global design language and concept vehicles, including laser-cut headlamps incorporating LED technology, power-dome bonnet and, for the first time, 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, Ford ergonomics and interior design experts have reconfigured Fiesta with relocated switch-gear, a new centreconsole with arm-rest and new materials, interfaces and displays. New Fiesta combines style with substance. Its been subjected to a wideranging testing regime to prepare it for the most extreme use and conditions, and to ensure it excels in day-to-day performance for years to come. Engineers testing the New Fiesta logged 1.2 million kilometres on public roads and 850,000 kilometres on test tracks, which included cobbles and deep potholes. Other tests include extreme hot and cold weather ranging from -40 C to 82 C. Durability testing at Fords Lommel Proving Ground in Belgium exploited test track terrains that are exact replicas of those found on real roads in the U.K., France and the U.S., including an exact recreation of a potholed stretch of road near the Ford Dunton Technical Centre, England.

New Fiesta Breaks Cover

New Fiesta is being launched across Europe on the back of a coordinated media and marketing campaign designed to engage, enthral and inform consumers. The car made its public debut at the Go Further event in Amsterdam in September, triggering a rush of glowing reviews in both automotive and non automotive press. This was followed up by a high profile appearance at the Paris Motorshow in October and a unique Fiesta drive event in Rome in November, attended by Europes most influential road testers and bloggers. New Fiesta is generating a massive buzz in social media circles; helped by two panEuropean marketing initiatives. In the first, Ford Facebook followers were invited to take part in Fiesta 24 a competition inviting people to upload photos of a Ford taken at different times of the day. Almost 8,000 fans submitted entries and their images will be merged to create a Fiesta mosaic. The winner will receive a New Ford Fiesta. Ford has also launched a Fiesta 24 App on Facebook which analyses information on your profile page and then predicts your Fiesta future. The App also encourages users to submit their ideas for a perfect 24hrs in the Ford Fiesta. The company has pledged to make some of these perfect days happen. Ford of Europes You Tube channel is now showing videos featuring celebs from across 5 European markets, such as singer/song writer Jessie Ware spending 24 hours with New Fiesta. And Ford has challenged top artists such as Rafal Rozendaal to create visually stunning Fiesta-based masterpieces to be featured in print ad campaigns. To find out more about these events and the Fiesta 24 campaign, go to your local Ford Facebook page.
