TTJ 3C0 MODES OF TRANSPORTATION ASSIGNMENT Purpose: This unit is to help identify and demonstrate an understanding of the historical

evolution of transportation technologies. Areas explored include modes of transportation, exploration and the support systems required for maintaining their operation. Your Challenge: You and your partner will select one mode of transportation that is used to transport people and/or cargo across land, water, air or space. You will then design and create a model and will present your findings to the class. PART A: RESEARCH (T/I 10 marks) You and your partner will each research different components of your project and submit the information found for evaluation. Your research should include the following topics: a description and explanation of the history and evolution of the particular mode of transportation first inventions, trial and errors, idea development, manufacturing, testing and modifications environment hazards, methods of power generation, alternate fuel and power sources possible social, technological, economic and environment implications that have occurred throughout the development of the selected transportation system career opportunities, educational requirements etc. Organize your rough notes into a table for evaluation. Each member is to submit a table: Group members Topic Point-Form Information Source (use proper name who did the MLA format) research

Part B: DESIGN AND FABRICATION (K/U 15 marks, App 40 marks) You and your partner will Brainstorm a number of different options on how to develop and create your model. What materials will you require? What tools will you need? (You are encouraged to use recycled materials for your model, balsam wood, plastics, cardboard, Styrofoam are also acceptable. Each member is responsible to submit the following (before construction can begin) 4 thumbnail sketches (rough ideas on how your model will look, top and side views) 1 concept drawing within a title block (detailed drawing of model, both top and side views) detailed inventory list of materials and tools required

PART C: WRITTEN TECHNICAL REPORT (T/I 15marks) The purpose of the report is to present your finished project or solutions in a well-organized written format. You and your partner will organize all your research from Part A into one written report. The report must: Be word processed in an organized and logical manner (intro, history, .reflections) Look professional and neat Include a title page with an original graphic/picture (your model) Include all drawings and sketches (from Part B) Each student will include a page reflection/opinion on your findings, challenges, overall experience during this project. PART D: PRESENTATION (com 10marks) You and partner develop and present a short, (5 to 10 minutes) presentation to your class. Your presentation must have visual support in the form of one of the following: powerpoint prezi video Science Fair type backboards It is expected that all group members equally share in the development and delivery of the presentation.
