Changes/additions after 18 April 2005 may not be reflected.

Monday, 20 June, 1400 to 1500 OPENING CEREMONY

Monday, 20 June, 1500 to 1630 PANEL 1: THE ROLE OF THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY IN THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF LATIN AMERICA
Focus: 1. How can the petroleum industry contribute to change some energy-dependent economies in Latin America and the Caribbean into stable and socially developed countries? Some issues: Increasing the flexibility of response, promoting a wide range of products, and growth with social responsibility. 2. Is the industry underinvesting its cash assets, and are opportunities constrained in Latin America and the Caribbean? Are the rising oil and gas prices having an impact in Latin America and the Caribbean, and are they commensurate with investments in the petroleum industry? 3. The dynamic management of the countries and companies petroleum-assets portfolios and their ability to obtain a rapid response to emerging global or local issues.

Thursday, 23 June, 1045 to 1215 PANEL 4: CHALLENGES IN INTEGRATING THE NATURAL GAS INDUSTRY IN THE SOUTHERN CONE
Focus: 1. Strategies to increase the natural gas demand in the Southern Cone development. 2. Can Latin American and Caribbean countries share a long-term vision of the natural gas market? 3. Natural gas is gradually gaining more importance in the world energy market; Latin America and the Caribbean need to consolidate their position as the leading gas-producing region.

Thursday, 23 June, 1045 to 1215 PANEL 5: REGIONAL INTEGRATION THROUGH TECHNICAL EDUCATION AND HUMAN RESOURCES
Focus: 1. The rate of technology change is accelerating, requiring changes in skills and work processes. Are the petroleumengineering training programs in Latin America and the Caribbean tailored to this revolutionary technology-driven energy sector? 2. Are technology transfers from service companies to operators and between companies already in place in Latin American and Caribbean countries? 3. How can we prepare people and communities for the new technologies? Some issues: motivation, retention, and leverage. 4. Are turnover, retirement, professionals turning into super-experts, cultural diversity challenging knowledge-based organizations, and making efficient use of manpower becoming issues of paramount importance?
