1 Introduction
CENTREX stands for CENTRal office EXchange service. GeoCENTREX is the product name for the CENTREX services of EWSD. The GeoCENTREX system provides a virtual private branch exchange (PBX) in EWSD. Existing PBX can be integrated. This permits the range and functionality of the existing telecommunications system to be expanded. GeoCENTREX is not only limited to one location, but also enables supply to widely dispersed groups (business groups) and the working of PBX. GeoCENTREX Features and Functions are described in the following. What advantages do you have as a GeoCENTREX provider? The advantage of GeoCENTREX is the system flexibility is greater than in PBX: both the number of GeoCENTREX subscribers and the subscriber-related features can be adapted with efficiency and ease to the current requirements of your customers. The subscribers are combined to form so-called GeoCENTREX groups. In contrast to a PBX, these subscribers can be situated in different locations while still being able to benefit from common services such as the uniform private directory numbering plan, switching functions or administrative functions. Features installed for public subscribers or PBX lines can also be used with GeoCENTREX. Group features available to all subscribers in a local GeoCENTREX group have only to be installed once per local group. Other advantages of GeoCENTREX for the network node provider are increased revenues from the expanded range of services, greater exploitation of existing switching equipment and acquisition of new customer groups. What advantages does the customer have as a GeoCENTREX user? GeoCENTREX offers your customers many advantages since the GeoCENTREX system derives its wide range of communication services direct from the network node. The GeoCENTREX concept allows the customer to combine subscribers into a group according to the customers own interests and/or the interests of the group members without being restricted by the location of those subscribers. The customer can assign specific group features and subscriber-individual features to the group members. It is also possible to restrict individual service usage.

The advantages of the GeoCENTREX system

Cost effectiveness The main advantage of GeoCENTREX is its cost effectiveness. With GeoCENTREX, your customer does not have to purchase expensive switching equipment and have it serviced. The features are provided in the public network node. Thus no large financial investments are necessary for the customer. GeoCENTREX eliminates most of the costs of a privately operated PBX system. As a pure software solution in the network node, it takes up no space, needs no power supply, no related backup systems and, best of all, no special operating environment. With GeoCENTREX, your customers can invest in expanding their businesses instead of spending their money on the acquisition and maintenance of a traditional telecommunication system. High reliability GeoCENTREX provides your customers with the highest level of reliability because it is supplied directly from the EWSD network node. End network nodes are fully redundant and equipped with backup systems should a power failure occur. The reliability of GeoCENTREX is particularly important for those companies whose telecommunications systems are the main link to their customers. No risk of obsolescence GeoCENTREX gives your company the best of todays technology, together with the option of the new services of the future. As soon as new features are developed, they are available to your customers without the necessity of buying new equipment. GeoCENTREX protects your customers telecommunications systems from technological obsolescence.

Overview GeoCENTREX

Service by network provider operator EWSD, the digital switching system on which GeoCENTREX is based, is supervised 24 hours a day by optimally trained technicians. Your customers are able to save considerably on the costs of maintaining their communications systems, and can concentrate better on their businesses. Flexibility and adaptation to customer requirements GeoCENTREX features can be individually customized for every subscriber in a company. Your customer pays only for the lines and features he or she requires. Since requirements are different for every subscriber, features can be added or changed with simple service jobs. If employees often have to move around from one company location to another, they will very quickly be convinced of the advantages of the flexible GeoCENTREX system. Comprehensive range of services GeoCENTREX offers a broad range of services (over 250) which help your customers staff to work more efficiently and reduce communications costs. Almost unlimited add-on possibilities When a Centrex group expands, GeoCENTREX can easily be adapted to new requirements. The configuration capacity is restricted only by the size of the network node. Many companies are subject to seasonal fluctuation and have to increase or decrease their line capacity. GeoCENTREX is an excellent alternative for customers who cannot exactly plan their growth in turnover and particularly do not want to be restricted by hardware capacity. Cost-effective options for companies with more than one location Where a company occupies several buildings in different locations, it can be economically interconnected and administered with GeoCENTREX, particularly if all locations are served by EWSD switching systems. Whether in branch offices or head offices, staff can access the same features everywhere. With the help of the common private directory numbering plan staff in branch offices also feel fully integrated. All locations can easily communicate with each other without having to rent expensive dedicated lines. Who are your customers? Customer who work in conjunction with each other can be combined in a GeoCENTREX group. Not only large groups of employees such as in public authorities, universities, hospitals, industry, service providers and hotels benefit from GeoCENTREX, but also specialist groups such as doctors who are spread over a wide area and have to consult one another on a regular basis, architects and any small groups of people who need to maintain close and problem-free contact. Each GeoCENTREX group can be individually equipped with all the GeoCENTREX features and functions required by your customers.

group have to be assigned. To each of these GeoCENTREX directory numbers, different GeoCENTREX features such as Call Forwarding or Do not Disturb can be assigned. For example, if do not disturb has been activated for a directory number, the second directory number, for which do not disturb was not activated, can still receive calls. For incoming calls, the GeoCENTREX subscriber can distinguish between the multiple subscriber numbers by their different ringing tones. For more information please refer to Feature Description

4.1.2

Customer access treatment code (CATCODE)

GeoCENTREX offers the facility of providing GeoCENTREX-specific features which require an access code to individual subscribers with authorization. The authorizations which can be provided are, (see Feature Description): Directed call pick up without barge in (DCPU) Dial call waiting Access to Customer premises equipment Customer premises equipment call pick up (CPECPU) Location Dialing Night service call pick up (NSCPU) Dial through attendant Selection of Carrier access code (CAC) Subscriber call park To avoid having to authorize each subscriber feature individually, authorization for each individual feature can be combined into a customer access treatment code (CATCODE). A CATCODE corresponds to a set of features. Assignment of the CATCODE entitles the subscriber to full usage of the features which are incorporated in this CATCODE. As illustrated in Fig. 4.2 CATCODE 1 includes the following features: dial through attendant, night service call pick up, selection of carrier access code and directed call pick up. You can define up to 32 CATCODEs at GeoCENTREX group level 31 standard CATCODEs within the network node If the CATCODE of the subscriber is not defined within the GeoCENTREX group, the corresponding CATCODE on network node level is valid.

4.1.3

Carrier access code (CAC)

This service provides a GeoCENTREX subscriber with the facility of dialing two default carrier access code for calls to the public network. Within a GeoCENTREX group, two standard carriers can be defined which are selected for every call to the public network, if no other carrier access code is explicitly dialed and where no standard carrier has been specified for the individual extension. The two CACs can be used to reach different destination areas, national and international or two different national destinations. The hierarchie of the dialing / administrated carrier access codes is shown as follows: dialed carrier access code (highest priority) administrated carrier access code to the remote intercom number or to a GeoCENTREX access code administrated carrier access code for a subscribers or PBX-lines administrated carrier access code for a PBX administrated carrier access code for a GeoCENTREX group administrated carrier access code on exchange level (lowest priority) The selection of carrier access codes can be suspended for a GeoCENTREX group.

Overview GeoCENTREX

4.1.4

Priority (PRIO)
The feature makes it possible to carry out prioritized connection setups for specific subscribers. For this purpose the search for an idle trunk or an idle channel and the path selection in the switching network are automatically repeated if (from the point of view of the exchange) outgoing trunk groups are busy. For more information please refer to Feature Description.

4.1.5

Emergency calls
A GeoCENTREX subscriber whose line is blocked for calls to destinations outside the GeoCENTREX group can nevertheless make emergency calls with this feature to public emergency services (police, fire service, etc., see also GeoCENTREX specific call restrictions). For more information please refer to Feature Description.

4.1.6

Terminal portability (TP)

The feature allows a user to move a terminal from one socket to another within one given ISDN basic access while a call is active. For more information please refer to Feature Description.

4.1.7

Directory number portability (DNP)

A GeoCENTREX subscriber can use the Directory number portability (DNP) feature just like a public telephone subscriber. The overall conditions of the public telephone network apply to the GeoCENTREX subscriber as to the public telephone subscriber. If a GeoCENTREX subscriber moves from one network node to another, then the intercom number is changed in the old network node from local to a remote intercom number, and in the new network node from remote to local. Since the directory numbering plan of the GeoCENTREX group should be consistent in both network nodes, no further adaptations are necessary. But if the subscriber changes to a network node to which no members of the GeoCENTREX group have yet been connected, the GeoCENTREX group has to be defined for this network node. In all other network nodes to which parts of this GeoCENTREX group are connected, the possibility must be considered that the directory number now connects to a new destination.

4.1.8

Personal identification number (PIN)

The system administration can be defined for each GeoCENTREX group whether a personal identification number is required for each subscriber controlled feature code (e. g. PIN is required for activation of call forwarding busy but not for deactivation of call forwarding busy). When a keyword protected feature is assigned by the network operator to an line the user has to modify the keyword before he uses it the first time. The new keyword has to be different from the old one. A trivial keyword consisting of the same four digits, e.g. "6666" is rejected.

29

Overview GeoCENTREX

Information GeoCENTREX

4.7.4

Distinctive ringing
This Different ringing tones allows subscribers to distinguish between calls from the public network and those from members of the same GeoCENTREX group (intercom calls) by means of different ringing cadences. An intercom ringing tone is also applied for calls between GeoCENTREX subscribers identified as associated on the basis of the business group identification number. Calls from members of other GeoCENTREX (business) groups are treated as external calls. On ISDN lines, it depends on the capabilities of the terminal as to whether it can recognize the different ringing tones. The different ringing tone feature is able for: Calls within the GeoCENTREX group, business group, subbusiness group Calls from the public network Forwarded calls CCBS/CCNR calls public operator calls Calls to different multiple subscriber numbers for ISDN subscriber lines (e.g., private numbers)

4.7.5

Parallel Ringing (PRNG)

The Parallel ringing feature is of interest to subscribers who have two lines and always want to be reachable at both lines. The lines can be, for example, a fixed subscriber line and a mobile telephone. When this feature is active, every call attempt to the fixed subscriber line is automatically routed in parallel to the mobile telephone. The subscriber can accept the call at either line. The call is connected to the line at which the subscriber first goes off hook. For more information please refer to Feature Description.

4.7.6

Message waiting indication (MWI)

Once a message has been received by the voice mail system an indication shall be given to the diverting subscriber. An audible indication is given by a special MWI dial tone. Additionally the subscriber can get a visual indication on the display. For ISDN subscribers this indication is transmitted to the transit network node once the subscriber goes off hook. Analog subscribers can get the visual indication while they are on hook using the Frequence Shift Key (FSK) method. The transmission of the message waiting indication to the diverting subscriber is implemented similar to the remote subscriber controlled input. The voice mail system calls a special remote service number in the home exchange of the served subscriber. The service point returns a second dialtone to the VMS. Then the VMS sends the mailbox number (identical to the directory number) of the served subscriber. Thereafter the VMS transmits the service code for activation or deactivation of the MWI and optional the number of waiting messages. The service point sends a confirmation tone and the VMS releases the connection.

The Malicious Call Identification feature provides the possibility to identify and register malicious, nuisance or obscene calls. The feature is assigned after request by the subscriber. Due to the same feature control for MCT and multi party features both features cannot be used in parallel. MCT takes priority, i.e. if MCT is subscribed, the multi party features Call Waiting (CW), Explicite Call Transfer (ECT), Call Hold (CH) and Three Party Conference (TPC) are blocked. For more information please refer to Feature Description.

4.10.3

Manager Secretary Team Function

The Manager Secretary Team Function feature can be used to combine up to 16 GeoCENTREX subscribers into a Manager Secretary Team group. Within a Manager Secretary Team group (MASET group) a Secretary access line can be assigned to up to 15 Manager access lines a Secretary can have a Deputy. Up to 4096 MASET groups can be set up in one network node. Status lamps on all the terminals (special ISDN terminals) in this type of MASET group indicate the call processing status of each directory number in the group (idle, busy, ringing, park, etc.), if they are configured in the terminal. For more information please refer to Feature Description.

4.10.4

Teleworking
Using the Teleworking feature, a GeoCENTREX subscriber (teleworker) is able to deal with incoming and outgoing communications while he is working away from his company. The teleworker can be contacted via the public directory number of his business telephone and, by applying the appropriate settings in the private exchange, via the companys internal directory. The public directory number of the business telephone is

displayed on the external callers telephone. Private calls can be distinguished from business calls by using the MSN feature. In the case of more than one GeoCENTREX group, the teleworker is able to log onto different directory numbers (MSN) which are assigned to different GeoCENTREX groups. With this arrangement, the teleworker is able to work for more than one company (customer), either one after another or simultaneously (refer to Access configurations). In the LOGOFF state, the subscriber can usually be contacted in his company as a PBX subscriber, GeoCENTREX subscriber or via the mailbox. For more information please refer to Feature Description.

5 GeoCENTREX Attendant
GeoCENTREX attendant features facilitate the definition of attendants with operator functions in a GeoCENTREX group. The task of the GeoCENTREX attendant is to assist the subscriber during the call setup and/or provide the subscriber with a range of features for call setup and during the call. These tasks comprise the following: Accept incoming calls from the public switched telephone network to the GeoCENTREX group and transfer them to a subscriber of the GeoCENTREX group. Accept calls from a subscriber of the GeoCENTREX group and assist the subscriber to make calls to the public switched telephone network. Further process unsuccessful call attempts (e.g., call attempts to inactive lines). Accept calls from a subscriber of the GeoCENTREX group which have been forwarded to the attendant station. Receive on a GeoCENTREX attendant station (multifunctional attendant console) call specications from subscribers so that the communication costs of the GeoCENTREX group can be correctly assigned and administered. Receive call charging information (MDR). Receive on a GeoCENTREX attendant station (multifunctional attendant console) trafc data of the GeoCENTREX group for formatting, display and printing on the multifunctional attendant console. Provide telephone information services (corresponding to the local database on the multifunctional attendant console) Administer specic data of the local GeoCENTREX group (Multifunctional attendant console). The GeoCENTREX attendant services are performed in the GeoCENTREX-specific switching and management software units of the CP and GP in EWSD. They are used by the basic stations and the multifunctional attendant consoles (special multifunctional attendant console features). For more information please refer to Feature Description.

6 Networking Functions
The telecommunication company must ensure that unambiguous business group identification numbers are employed throughout its network. The functionality of this feature depends on the capability for netwide transport via ISUP for business group identication parameters, parameters for transparently transported QSIG features CENTREX application transport parameter also via non-GeoCENTREX EWSD exchanges, EWSD exchanges and other vendors' exchanges. The following network functions are described in this chapter: Network Structure Netwide Feature Transparency Feature Interworking to PBXs via QSIG In contrast to a PBX, GeoCENTREX groups can be defined independently of their location.

6.1

Network Structure
The networking functions are as follows: Local GeoCENTREX Extended area GeoCENTREX Netwide GeoCENTREX Netwide GeoCENTREX via IN

6.1.1

Local GeoCENTREX
Local GeoCENTREX means GeoCENTREX groups restricted to one location (all lines of the group are connected to the same node). This corresponds to the range of a PBX.

6.1.2

Extended area GeoCENTREX

The range of an EWSD network node and such a GeoCENTREX group can be considerably extended by using DLU as Remote Digital Line Units (RDLU). Although, for the sake of simplicity, the term local GeoCENTREX group is used in this document, this term also includes extended area GeoCENTREX. The simplified term merely expresses the fact that the GeoCENTREX group is confined to one network node.

6.1.3

Netwide GeoCENTREX
Netwide GeoCENTREX is a service which can combine subscribers of multiple GeoCENTREX groups who are distributed over various network nodes of a public switched telephone network into a GeoCENTREX business group.

6.1.4

Netwide GeoCENTREX via IN

Netwide GeoCENTREX takes advantage of centralized IN services for remote intercom number translation into network routable destinations numbers or for calling name delivery service for the called subscriber. It is possible to permit the revaluation of the internal directory number into a public directory number (E.164) only for remote internal calls. subscriber are circulated network-wide and evaluated. The only pre-condition is that signaling is done via ISUP+ (ISUP V2). The information that is necessary for network-wide feature clarity are transmitted in the following elements: Business Group Parameter Field (ANSI Standard) Business group identication Subbusiness group identication GeoCENTREX station restrictions Attendant identication Generic Number-Parameter Intercom numbers Application Transport Parameter (QSIG) Explicite call transfer (ECT) Call completion to busy subscriber (CCBS) Call completion on no reply (CCNR) Remote subscriber controlled input (for call forwarding) Calling name Connected name Call forwarding notication Application Transport Parameter (CENTREX) Dial call waiting Call waiting, originating Attendant barge in (ABI) Subscriber barge in (SBI) Attendant camp on (ACO) Attendant emergency override (AEO) Dial through attendant (DTA) GeoCENTREX specic restrictions of the original calling subscriber Fixed call types Interworking of Siemens GeoCENTREX with the CENTREX implementation of other producers is not a part of this document.

6.3

Feature Interworking to PBXs via QSIG

For a subset of QSIG standard an extended feature interworking between GeoCENTREX main connections and subscribers of a PBX system can be done. Two advantages result: Interworking is also possible with PBX systems which have a QSIG instead of a DSS1 connection Expanded feature interworking is possible because the QSIG connection has features which are not provided for in the DSS1 protocol. Feature interworking between GeoCENTREX subscribers and subscribers of a PBX system based on QSIG depends on the complexity of implementing the QSIG interface in the PBX system. The features that are possible depend on each individual case. The pre-condition is that signaling is done via ISUP+ (ISUP V2). QSIG feature interworking If both participants of a connection are QSIG terminals, unrestricted feature handling can be attained by transparent transmission of the feature data. However, as soon as a

41

Overview GeoCENTREX

Information GeoCENTREX

GeoCENTREX subscriber and a QSIG terminal set up a call, an interworking must be carried out. This means that the exchange must know the QSIG feature and carry out a procedural and protocol-related adaptation. For example, the name of the QSIG definition must be transformed into the DSS1 definition QSIG interworking is currently performed for the following: Subscriber name display For calls between a GeoCENTREX subscriber at the network node and a PBX subscriber of the same GeoCENTREX (business) group, GeoCENTREX supports the transmission of subscriber names: Calling name identication presentation (CNIP) Calling name identication restriction (CNIR) Connected name identication presentation (CONP) Call forwarding For calls between two subscribers of the same GeoCENTREX (business) group connected to different PBXs, the participating network nodes must be fully transparent with respect to the feature data transmitted with QSIG. Dial call waiting Dial call waiting is possible via QSIG, in a PBX within a local GeoCENTREX group or the netwide business group. Call waiting, originating Explicite call transfer (ECT) Call completion to busy subscriber (CCBS) Call completion on no reply (CCNR) Remote subscriber controlled input (for call forwarding)

7 Feature control options

Some features can be controlled with dial pulsing or DTMF for analog subscriber lines. ISDN subscribers can control the GeoCENTREX features via keypad and/or functional protocol according to the DSS1 protocol for ISDN subscriber lines, even if their subscriber access line does not have authorization for using the stimulus protocol. However, it is not possible to use the public features with keypad procedures and by dialing the network access code. Non-GeoCENTREX subscriber lines cannot use these features in this version. In the subscriber procedure for features which are provided in the public telephone network also for non-GeoCENTREX subscriber lines, there may be differences in controlling the features, resulting from the GeoCENTREX numbering plan. If features of the public telephone network are available with a GeoCENTREX-specific version, only these features can be used; the procedures of the public telephone network are not available. For more protocol specific information, see Overview Description. Overview Analog Subscribers Overview ISDN For more feature control detailed information, see according Feature Description.

A single REC CXGRP task can be defined for up to 16 individual GeoCENTREX groups, one object group with up to 512 GeoCENTREX groups or for all GeoCENTREX groups. The traffic measurement data is transmitted to the system disk every 15 minutes in the measurement period. The output data recorded depends on the selection made with the FORMAT parameter of the REC CXGRP command. If no FORMAT parameter is used, all data is recorded. Specific GeoCENTREX measurement values can be transferred via an ISDN link to an attendant station in the GeoCENTREX group. In addition to the GeoCENTREX measurement values, measurement data on queues and PBXs can also be transferred. The attendant logged on at the attendant station must have permission for this function. After the attendant has activated the function, the data is transferred every half hour until the function is deactivated. If the attendant station is not active, the data is lost. The function can also be activated and deactivated with an MML command. Activation and deactivation apply to the complete GeoCENTREX complex. Data of every GeoCENTREX group of the complex is transferred and recorded. All GeoCENTREX measurement values are transferred to the attendant station except measurement values nos. 15-20 of the ATN measurement values and the measurement data concerning the total of all GeoCENTREX groups (SUM data).

Note:
The traffic volume units are Erlang per minute [Erlmin] (not Erlang per second [Erls]. For more detailed information see also the Information of Traffic Measurement.

8.2

Security for network wide O&M administration of GeoCENTREX business groups

For a central administration of network wide GeoCENTREX business groups, special operator permissions are necessary to guarantee that only defined operators of the telecom company (with a special keyword) are allowed to administer these business groups. In the following picture, business group A can be administered only by operator X and business group B only by operator Y, even in the same switch (defined by the square). Even the local operator is also not allowed to administer both groups.

Security for network wide O&M administration of GeoCENTREX business groups

If a business group uses the security mechanism, then all of its GeoCENTREX groups in the switch are affected. All commands with CENTREX relevance (GeoCENTREX specific and public commands, e.g. a modification of public features for a GeoCENTREX subscriber) are only allowed if the operator who does the command input is authorized for administration of the business group. A business group which should not participate in the security mechanism is not affected by this feature.

9 Netwide GeoCENTREX Features

Restricted to features for which additional information exchange is required via ISUP. To guarantee netwide feature transparency, new information must be transmitted via the ISUP. The APP (Application Transport Parameter) is used for this purpose. A parameter value (Application Context Identifier) in the APP specifies whether the parameter contents are to be interpreted as CTX information (CTX-APP, identifier=64) or as QSIG information (QSIG-APP, identifier=1). The CTX-APP is used if the calling side is a GeoCENTREX subscriber (not MLHG). The QSIG-APP is used if the calling side is a PBX. Conversions may be necessary. Possible conversions: Calling side is QSIG PBX, called side is QSIG PBX: No conversion in EWSD Calling side is QSIG PBX, called side is CTX subscriber: Conversion of QSIG-APP to DSS1 / analog. Calling side is QSIG PBX, called side is irrelevant If the PBX supports the QSIG protocol, it sends the QSIG-APP. An additional CTX-APP is used for version transmission. Calling side is CTX subscriber, called side is QSIG PBX: Conversion of CTX-APP to QSIG-APP Calling side is CTX subscriber, called side is CTX subscriber: Conversion of CTX-APP to DSS1 / analog CTX-APP and QSIG-APP may occur together in an ISUP message.
