Research Interests:
My research interest is in the area of wireless communication and networking but widens up as I also take interest in any system integration and development that uses wireless networking as a communication medium. For example, ICT for Development and Smart Grid Information Network demands system integration where wireless networking plays an integral part. My enthusiasm in communication has been instrumental in conceptualizing my final year research project Cognitive Radio for Wireless Nodes in IEEE 802.11 Based Wireless Mesh Network and this dissertation kindled my interest to know further on the Cognitive Radio Networks. My research acknowledges the collaborative fashion by which mesh access points work and puts forward an approach to implement cognitive end users to make such networks more intelligent and each of its element aware of each other. Recently I have worked on developing a Network Management Interface for Super Wi-Fi deployment by Rice University and Technology for All (TFA) in Houston, Texas.

Research Experiences
1) Super Wi-Fi or Whitespace Network Deployment Super Wi-Fi is a term put forth by FCC (Federal Communications Commission) when they first opened up sizeable new band of unlicensed spectrum in the range of 50-700 MHz. Unlike current Wi-Fi, which uses 2.4 or 5 GHz, the spectrum that would carry Super Wi-Fi would be able to travel for several miles instead of couple of feet. After the digitization of the television, unutilized spectrums have been lying around and efforts have been given to use these bands, more often referred to as White Spaces, as unlicensed spectrum. As the new band of unlicensed spectrum lives in between TV channels, it was initially feared that the Super Wi-Fi data transmission might interfere with the TV signal. Hence as solution white space devices now will be required to query a special database, making sure no signals are crossed. Super Wi-Fi deployments can provide communities with better and cheaper access to wireless networks and hence Internet. In April 2011, Rice University in partnership with the nonprofit organization Technology for All, installed the first residential deployment of Super Wi-Fi in east Houston. The network uses white spaces for backhaul and provides access to clients in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. However, such networks are new and therefore different from usual Wi-Fi. New network management protocols are needed to be designed and developed in order to monitor/manage a White Space network deployment. I worked in the Super Wi-Fi research project in Rice University as Visiting Student Intern for 4 months. During this time, I worked on writing a new management protocol, designing and developing a network management interface to monitor and manage the Super Wi-Fi network. 2) Information Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) Opportunities and challenges of traditional communication technologies, in the area of rural communication, calls for a change in perspective and usual trends of wired and wireless connectivity. In the quest to improve rural communication with the urban market, use of smart hand-held devices and easy-to-deploy wireless connectivity is catalytic according to my findings. To eradicate digital divide, we came up with a holistic approach to overcome the challenges of language barrier and information asymmetry. Customized $100 tablets, an interactive hand-held communication device, were distributed among villagers for free in a pilot project Digits-To-All (DTA). These smart communication devices stay connected to the global network through the deployment of wireless mesh network (WMN) in a rural area. QoS constraints are imposed in the WMN setup and significant observation has been made regarding spectrum resource utilization at every hop by achieving certain level of cognition at the user end. To know more about these project and communication infrastructure, please look up my publications inhttp://quad4ri.weebly.com/publications.html and www.amadeyr.org 3) Dynamic Hop Selection By Cognitive Wireless Nodes In IEEE 802.11S Based Wireless Mesh In contrast to wired networking and IEEE 802.16 setups, deployment of wireless mesh network is found to be inexpensive and catalyzes the use of wireless connectivity for WLAN setup in even remote areas of many emerging regions. In this research I worked in the rural development project Digits-to-All (DTA), launched in a remote area of Bangladesh, where WMN deployment is considered to be the only means of establishing communication between rural and urban market. The pilot mesh, when studied thoroughly reveals the underutilization of radio spectrum at every hop in the wireless mesh network. The wireless nodes/clients can be better equipped with efficient sensing parameters to select the best hop in a multi-hop environment by achieving a level of cognition. For efficient utilization of radio spectrum and intelligent hop selection, this research introduces a novel Best Hop Selection (BHS) scheme, which uses a special type of learning algorithm, known as Q-learning to adapt to the mesh environment. To know more about this research, please look up my publications in http://quad4ri.weebly.com/publications.html 4) Carbon Calculator for Carbon Trading (CCCT) Developed a university project, Going Green, to make energy efficient Base Stations by deploying solar power systems. Part of the project deals with the software based carbon calculator that helps the Telecom operators to monitor their carbon emission to initiate carbon trading. The research based project is still on going and requires funding to collect carbon content data of various sector of Bangladesh. The calculator can also be used as a mobile application.
