Formal Proposal:

Chosen Topic:The topic we have chosen to do is a documentary on Teenage Drinking. We chose to do this topic because we thought this would be a popular and creative choice. Having the questionnaires complete, we now have evidence that this topic is a good choice. This topic allows us to explore different opinions about drinking and the understanding and knowledge of teenagers. This documentary will cover all these areas and further our audiences knowledge on drinking alcohol. Everybody that this documentary is targeted at has his or her own individual opinion. We can provide various perspectives on teenage drinking. The type of documentary we are doing is mixed; this will include interviews, evidence, montages, archive footage and a voice over narrator. We have chosen to do this, as it is more engaging for our target audience. It will be informal, as it needs to be relatable to our target audience.

Target Audience:Our target audience for our Documentary will be teenagers who are interested in drinking alcohol. We want to create a Documentary that will include the aspects of teenage drinking. Our documentary is aimed between the age ranges of 15-25 as I think this is the age group that would be most interested in this topic; teenage drinking would mainly commence between these ages. Following our questionnaire, we found that most people watch documentaries like our documentary is after 9pm, having this information has given us the idea that we are going to air our programme at this time. Moreover, the reason why we are showing our documentary after the watershed is because it allows us to show more explicit/adult content, which we feel that drinking falls into this category. This will allow our documentary to be more appealing, giving it a greater impact on the audience. We also chose to broadcast our documentary on BBC Three as we feel that this channel will fit in with the style of our documentary as this channel can relate for to the younger generation. Also, our research showed that similar documentaries have been aired on this channel and at similar times to ours.

What we expect to find out:Through the use of evidence, interviews and archived footage, we expect to find what peoples opinions are of teenage drinking. We want to also give our audience knowledge about teenage drinking and the effect it has on youths. We also expect to find out what other areas influence underage drinking. Another aspect we will include in our documentary is what makes teenagers want to drink knowing the health risk it beholds and their knowledge to exercise their knowledge on this.

Primary Research:After giving out 30 questionnaires to provide us with answers that would help us to create an effective documentary. The questions we asked helped us to decide on various different things that would be needed in our Documentary. Once we had analysed the results, we found that some of the questions we asked didnt really help us with the ideas as they were irrelevant. This was included in our primary research as we asked various people around our college after constructing the questionnaire. We need to research various voices and themes in order for our Documentary to be the best it possibly can be.

Narrative Structure:The narrative structure of the documentary will be Linear; it will have a chronological order to it so that our audience will follow it easily and fluently. There will be many things needed in our documentary to fulfil the content. This will include things such as vox pox (in order to get a wide range of ideas from various people on teenage drinking) interviews, voice over narrator and evidence. We will need to find archive material in order to get the Documentary to the best possible standard.
