On Wednesday, November 25 EHL Edmonton held its third event of the year and hosted an interactive workshop Project
NOVEMBER 2012
Management in a Healthcare Environment. The session was presented by two consultants from the Deloitte healthcare practice who shared their extensive knowledge and experience with the group. Building upon the information presented in last years project management session, EHL members were able to dive deeper into the project management world and explore concrete examples of how project management is becoming a much needed and highly sought after skill to health care delivery organizations. EHL members were able to immediately apply the knowledge presented through break-out group discussions on a case that was presented. This allowed the attendees to work with other EHL members and discuss various approaches, tools, and techniques used by Project Managers on healthcare related projects. The night concluded with a presentation by the President of the Project Management Institute Northern Alberta Chapter (PMINAC) that covered the step by step process and requirements for obtaining the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation. The EHL Edmonton Executive would like to thank the members who attended and the presenters who volunteered their time to share their experiences.

On May 31st and June 27th, seasoned leadership coach and author Rachel Foster gave the Edmonton node of the Emerging Health Leaders a rousing and informative seminar on important Communication Skills for Leaders. Lecturing from both a lecture standpoint using her own personal professional experiences as a way to convey her ideas, and an interactive class participation method of engaging EHL members, she was able to effectively speak to principles of effective communication, principles of assertive

communication, putting assertiveness to work, and handling specific difficult personality types. Especially in the June 27th seminar, Rachel provided a relaxed atmosphere in where the participants could ask questions about communicating with different personality types, and what methods of communication would work in each situation. The event was well received by the EHL Edmonton node members and we are thankful to Rachel Foster for the communication sessions. The EHL Edmonton node wishes her all the best in her future endeavors.
