AccuMark Professional Edition Whats New 8.0.7

Grade Checker in AccuMark Explorer Grade Checker functionality has been added to the AccuMark Explorer. It can be selected in File-Export, Send to Mail Recipient and when selecting one or more pieces from Explorer. This provides the capability to validate data for backwards compatibility to V7. After selecting either Send to Mail Recipient or File Export, the Grade Checker option can be found in the dialog box

An enhancement has also been made to the Grade Checker to support selecting multiple pieces.

Interactive Blocking and Buffering Interactive Block/Buffering was implemented in V8.0.5 with the Block/Buffer override function in the Piece menu of Marker Making. This required that Blocking and/or Buffering be defined for the Order for the marker. Now, the Interactive Block/Buffering can be used for markers that do not have Blocking and/or Buffering set up in the Order (Lay Limits and Block/Buffer table). In addition, it is possible to change a blocked piece to a buffered piece. Insert Rule in the Alteration Editor A new function Insert, has been added to the Rule menu in the Alteration Editor which allows a new rule will be added before the rule that is selected. Create new Model Options in the Model Editor When adding a new Model Option, you can choose its location amongst existing options. The new Model Option is inserted after the currently selected option. Support for SQL and MSDE Storage Areas in CSV CSV Tools can now be used with MSDE and SQL devices. If SQL/MSDE devices are defined, the destination storage in Import and the Source Storage Area in Reports can be specified as a SQL/MSDE device.

Pattern Conversion Wizard available for PE-MWS The Pattern Conversion Wizard has been added to AccuMark Professional Edition Management Workstations (MWS). New Install License Dialog The Install License dialog has been updated with a reminder to verify your systems date and time before installing your license file. This will avoid potential security problems on a system that does not have the date and time set correctly.

A Validate button has been added to perform checks on your license file and key. Error messages are displayed if it cannot read the key or license file, or if your license file and key do not match.

Distributing and Combining darts on the same line When using Distribute Same Line to distribute a dart, the new darts are now added at the same angle as the original dart rather than being added perpendicular to the open point. In the example below the original dart apex is adjusted so that dart remains balanced; the dart length is maintained and the apex is adjusted so that the dart legs remain equal.

When Darts are combined, the angle and length of the dart are maintained. For example, in the image above, if the darts on the right piece were combined back into the original dart, the dart apex readjusts and the piece would look like the original piece, shown above left. File/Save Duplicate Point Message The Duplicate point ID message that may display when saving data now indicates the piece name(s) and point number(s).

V8 Pieces in V7 Model In Previous releases, it was possible to save a V8 piece in a V7 model. A message has been added to notify of this situation.

This message appears regardless of whether V8 functionality has actually been used. The message displays whenever Preferences is switched from V8 to V7, the work area or PDS is closed, or the "save and exit" button is selected while saving, if there are ANY pieces retrieved or in the workspace. (MK/V8) Tag Added to Some Functions Some functions are supported by both the MicroMark and V8 of the AccuMark, but are not supported in V7 AccuMark data. For example, Intersection Notch is only compatible for MicroMark data OR AccuMark V8 data. These functions have been identified by adding (MK/V8) next to the function name in the drop down menu. The list includes a few corner types that were previously only available for MicroMark data. In earlier versions these functions had only a (MK) or (AM) next to the function name. These functions include: Intersection Notch (MK/V8) Unclipped Perimeter (MK/V8) Double Miter Corner (MK/V8) Tab Corner (MK/V8) Nub/Extension Corner (MK/V8)

Additionally, the function Rename Sizes has had an (AM) placed after the function to indicate that this functionality is only available for data saved in the AccuMark format.

Improvements to notch and point selection in Copy Grade Changes have been made for selecting a Target point that is a Standard Notch, where both a notch and a base point exist at the same location. The Target point selection is based on the source selection. If the source selection is a point, the system will only allow points to be selected for the target selection. If the source selection is a notch, the system will only allow notches to be selected for the target selection. For example, Copy grade rule can now copy the grade rule of the notch base point for standard notches. If there is a notch and a notch base point at the same location, the system selects whichever one has a grade rule. AM-GMS Preferences have been added to the AE-GMS and PE-GMS workstations. See the On Line Help for information on each of the settings.

Expanded Notch Types and limits Increased the total number of notches to 99 entries in the notch parameter table. In previous versions, only supported 5 notch types per marker. Now it supports 99 notch types per marker. Implemented two new notch types * Notch table has new column - notch type Left Check creates a v-type notch angled to the left. Right Check creates a v-type notch angled to the right. Added U Notch Support by identifying notches as place holders. Maintains U notch as a notch type between conversions using the ASTM U notch layer. During ASTM conversions, if a U notch is detected upon import, the notch will be defined as a U notch type in the notch parameter table. However, the actual notch shape will be a castle notch. The U notch is created as a notch type in the notch parameter table so it can be exported out of the AccuMark back to ASTM format to maintain the U notches locations that were set up on the pieces prior to importing them into the AccuMark system.

Marker Making
Auto process for Marker Plot and Cut generation is now active inside marker making. Set the Process Preferences in AM-Explorer to Auto process and generate a marker plot or cut file directly to the desired location Interactive override of Block / Buffer values Added functionality for interactive override of Block/Buffer values. The new function is found under the Marking drop down menu Piece/Block-Buffer Override or by selecting the new toolbar icon. After selecting the piece to Block-Buffer Override, a Pop Up dialog box will appear. The user should choose the Rule type (either Block or Buffer) and then define on which side of the piece the rule will be applied (left, right, top, bottom). Markers that contain this feature will not be compatible with previous release of the software pre-805. A marker that uses this functionality CANNOT be Cut or Plot on earlier versions of AccuMark software. To improve the quality of the MicroMark marker import function, all block buffers from a MicroMark marker are imported using the new override function.

Add New Bundle/Add New Size The new Bundle/Add New Size function allows user to add a size that was not originally ordered in the marker. This feature regenerates the marker and has the same limitations as copy marker - some pieces may unplaced, split pieces will join.

Attach Marker This modified function allows now to attach markers of different widths. Marker Import MicroMark marker import will now import up to 99 notch types.

Plot but not Cut

There is now an option to leave a piece unplaced in a marker but still PLOT the piece, but not CUT or calculate it as placed efficiency.

New Tilt Limits Customer now has the ability to set different values for clockwise and counterclockwise tilt limits in the Laylimits table.

Marker Plot Parameter Table

Since Splice annotation is not allowed when the position of the splices is Bottom In/Top In or Inside, the "Annotation Splices" check box is now disabled if a user selects one of these three options.

AutoMark
In AutoMark, it is now possible to have the marker report and the marker layout printed on the same page.

Cut Generation
Added back missing functionality of exporting cut data to a dos file format 8.3 using the - as identifier of the dot. This new cut option has been added in the form of a check box labeled "DOS Format for Export Cut File" in the Cut Options dialog box. When using this function do NOT check the SAVE box on the cut generation form. When checked, the input marker file name will be converted to a DOS style 8.3 filename that will be used to name the cut file. The method used to create the cut file name is identical to the method used in the old System Management. Note that if a DOS Extension is also specified in Cut Options, the new cut filename will be created and then the specified file extension will replace the newly created file extension.

Batch Processing
Added the ability to use function key F2 to open the annotation editor, p-markerplot and p-cutter tables from the Batch parameter table.

Hardware Configuration Tablet Options

A new option has been added to Tablet/Menu Position. The choices are now Lower Left, Lower Right, Custom, Center and Float. Custom locks the menu to an X & Y position where Float orients the menu position to the proximity of the stylus pen.

AM-Explorer
User Environment Tables Added option in File/New menu to create new user environment tables. Only the name p-user environment table may be used, however, multiple table names can still be stored. Rename others to the default name to activate. Rename Utility Save as with Components now renames the pieces on the options page that match the main page of the model editor. Renaming will only occur if the piece has been renamed on the first page. Any other pieces in the options will not be affected. For example, if piece ladiesfront is renamed to womensfront and an option uses ladiesfront and a piece lapel, only the ladiesfront piece would be renamed.

Backups
Backups can now be scheduled to run more than once during the week. Previously you could only schedule the backup to run one day of the week. Backups will also include the user id information.

SQL
The new User Id history feature has been implemented for SQL/MSDE storage areas. It will use the System User Id of whom you are logged into the system. Example: <ccc\username>.

Pattern Conversion Wizard - ASTM

When importing styles with notch types that don't exist in the P-notch table - the conversion will create the notches in the notch parameter table during conversion. ASTM can now import up to 99 different notch variations. Page 22 of 131 9/29/2004

Changes since 8.0.4 Additional Annotation Lines
Annotation in the AccuMark has been enhanced to include 154 line labels that may be assigned standardized text in the Annotation editor. This allows frequently used annotation that to be standardized and quickly assigned to one or multiple pieces. Internal lines may now be assigned labels 100-254 in Pattern Design. The lines behave like A Annotation lines in the AccuMark and the Annotation table now supports labels 100-254. Please see the AccuMark section of the Whats New for additional details. Conversion between MicroMark and AccuMark A new stand-alone utility has been created to convert MicroMark annotation files into AccuMark Annotation tables. When MicroMark styles are saved as AccuMark data using either Pattern Design or the Style Converter utility, MicroMark annotation lines with indices 1-154 are converted to AccuMark internal line types 101-254. MicroMark annotation lines with indices 155-255 are converted to internal line type A. MicroMark annotation lines with an index of 0 are converted to an A line, allowing basic annotation information and locations to be transferred. When AccuMark data is saved as MicroMark data, the internal line types 100-254 are converted to MicroMark annotation lines with indices 0-154. This allows the annotation to be preserved for conversion in both directions. AccuMark and MicroMark have different annotation capabilities. When converting between data types, the following should be kept in mind: MicroMark supports up to 64 annotation lines per piece. If greater than 64 lines exist on AccuMark data that will be converted to MicroMark, the excess lines should be removed to avoid errors. MicroMark indices 155-255 are not supported in AccuMark and will be converted to internal line type A.

Support for up to 99 Notch Types

AccuMark Notch tables now support up to ninety-nine (99) different notches which may now be assigned in Pattern Design. When data with Notch types greater than 5 are opened in Classic AccuMark, 2.0.x series, or versions of 8.0 prior to 8.0.5, the notches will become notch type 5.

Long Names and Extensions for Plot Files

Support for long file names has been added when plotting to a file from Pattern Design. In addition, Piece Plot and Plotting from Pattern Design will now automatically add the extension .plt for HPGL files and .gen for Generic plot files. In previous releases plot files were assigned numbered extensions such as .001.

Enhancements to Add Dart with Fullness

Add Dart with Fullness has been updated to give a result that is closer to traditional patternmaking techniques and also more accurate. In previous releases, the pieces would pivot around the new dart tip. This often resulted in distortion in the area being slashed. The function now pivots at the slash location. If the slash location is also selected as the hold point, both sides of the piece will be moved so that the dart may be added balanced rather than to one side. Additionally, a specific dart length and apex may now be selected in this function.

Plotting Multiple Size Codes Stacked

It is now possible to select multiple sizes from the size code table in the functions Create Altered Size, Plot Altered, and Show Actual Sizes + Alterations. This allows multiples sizes to be shown and plotted stacked for easy comparison. For example, multiple inseam alterations for a pant leg may be stacked and viewed or plotted for easy comparison. This is similar to the MicroMark functionality of selecting a range of Variation sizes to display

Long Size Names when converting MK data to AM

A new message has been added when a Style being saved as AccuMark has non-base sizes longer than the six character permitted in AccuMark.

When converting Styles to Models using the Style Converter utility, the utility will report an error message that the size names are too long and will not save the data. In such cases, the sizes should be renamed in the appropriate MicroMark tables. When converting single styles by retrieving and saving in Pattern Design, the following steps are recommended: 1. Retrieve Style 2. Save As Model (System will prompt that size names are too long) 3. Place all pieces into the workarea and select Grade\Edit Size Line\Rename Size 4. Select All pieces in the workarea and rename sizes as needed so that all sizes are six characters or less. 5. Save the Style as an AccuMark Model Note: rename cannot be used on MicroMark data until after you have attempted to save it as AccuMark. This is to maintain the integrity of the MicroMark data.

New Message in Copy Model

A new message has been added to Copy Model. If any of the destination piece names still match any the source piece names when Ok is pressed, the following message will display.

If Yes is selected, then the Copy Model function will continue. If No is selected, then you will return to the rename dialog and the destination pieces that have not been renamed will be highlighted and may be edited.

This new message prevents users from accidentally changing the model name without changing the piece names and helps to make sure that the same piece is not referenced by multiple models unless the user specifically intends to do that.

Deleting points in Silhouette Line/Curve

In the functions Line/Curve, Sketch and Note/Illustrate, the E (Erase) button has been moved from the bottom right corner of the work area to the right mouse button menu. To delete a point or line, just press the right mouse button and select Erase.

New option in Grade Checker

A new option has been added to GradeChecker. The option, Ignore Seam Corner Notches is a checkbox that can be turned ON or OFF. When V7 piece data is checked, some pieces may have notches at seam corners that are placed at the incorrect location. These notches are positioned at the correct locations in version 8.0. When the option is OFF, the system will not report mismatches for these pieces.

AccuMark Professional Edition Whats New 8.0.4

User ID and History
New functionality has been added to the AccuMark Explorer and AccuMark Find which provides the ability to enter a user ID and to track changes to data. The Last Modified, Creation, and Previous Modification dates are now displayed for all AccuMark data items and if a User ID has been entered, the corresponding user will also display along with the date. New Columns called User, Created and Previous Modified have been added to the AccuMark Explorer, AccuMark Find, and Pattern Design File Open dialog. Data may be sorted by clicking on the header of any of the columns. The dates and users for individual items may also be displayed by selecting Properties from selected from the right button menu in explorer when a data item is highlighted. Terminology: Last Modified This is the date/time that the item was last saved. Created This is the date/time that the item was initially created. Note: Some functions, such as Save As, which can create new data items from existing data will also set the Created date. Previous Modified This is the second to last date/time that the item was saved.

In the example above, we can see that this model and most of its pieces were created in February of 2002. On 9/23/03 User JRS and WSH modified the pieces. Then on 10/01/03 user MAF created a new piece, B3-MENS-SHIRTPKTTMP and modified two other existing pieces that has been previously

modified by user JRS. The date on the model itself has not been updated recently, so its possible that MAF forgot to add her new piece to the model. A new tab called User has been added to the AccuMark Find which allows searching based on User IDs. Any of all of the fields may be filled in with search criteria. If the fields are left blank Find will search all users. Additionally, the wildcards *and ? may be use to represent multiple characters and a single character respectively. The example below shows a search for data that was created by user JMZ and last saved by user S*C. The search has returned two models. One model was last saved by user SAC and the other was last saved by user SMC.

To create or change a user ID From the Launchpad or AccuMark Explorer, open AccuMark Utilities. From the dropdown menus, select Configuration, then User ID. Enter up to three characters for the User ID. Available characters are A-Z, 0-9, and the -, and _ characters. By default, the entries will display in upper case. How the AccuMark Tracks Dates and User Using Save As in the AccuMark Explorer updates the Creation date. Using Save or Save As in PDS will update the Creation date when the data is saved to a different storage area or under a new name. All Data Management functions in the AccuMark Explorer -- Rename, Copy, Move, Export to V8 Pieces to V7 -- keep the existing User ID's and dates. Data saved or manipulated in Classic AccuMark does not maintain history information. If data is saved in Classic the creation date will be reset to be the same as the last modified date.

If no user is defined, or for data created and modified prior to this feature the User columns will display blank.

The History and User functionality is currently supported for traditional V7 and V8 storage areas. It is not yet available for SQL storage areas.

MicroMark Conversion Utility

Grain Line Type Option A new option Grain Line Type has been added to the Style Conversion Options of the Style Conversion Utility. In previous releases and manual conversions using Pattern Design, a grain line from MicroMark is always converted to an internal line label C with an F attribute assigned to each end of the internal line. The new option allows another label to be selected. The available options are C, E, F, I, J, K, and L. For example, if F is selected the line would convert to an internal label F and F attributes would also be assigned to the end points of the line. New color option for differences in grading If the Style Converter Utility detects a "Mismatch" the area is displayed in Red in the StyleViewer window. This allows any areas where the piece geometry is not within the acceptable defined tolerance to be easily and quickly identified. A new button has also been added to the top of the StyleViewer window which allows the highlighting color to be toggled on or off. The example below shows a notch that is placing out of tolerance on the larger graded sizes.

Gerber LaunchPad
New Minimize button Launchpad now includes a checkbox to minimize the Launchpad on the taskbar. This allows the Launchpad to be minimized and maximized for use without opening and closing it each time. To restore, simply click on the Launchpad application in the task bar or, right mouse button and select, Restore. New Links A link to the User Environment table has been added under AccuMark Explorer/Utilities section. The User Environment Table is the current method of storage area environment control. The environment is now controlled on a per storage area basis. The Pattern Conversion Wizard icon is now linked to the new ASTM converter. Previously AAMA 4.3.4 was launched from this icon. AAMA 4.3.4 can still be accessed from Windows Explorer. However, the new Pattern Conversion Wizard has many corrections to the AAMA 4.3.4 version in addition to the ASTM changes. AccuMark Explorer
User Environment (Preferences) The original P-User Environment table has been reactivated, replacing the global options method used in previous 8.0 releases. Now, this table controls the user environment on a per storage area basis rather than on all storage areas, allowing for greater flexibility. The default name P-User Environ is the only table name that is supported at this time. Only one P-User Environ table per storage area is allowed. P-User Environ can be opened from within a storage area through AM-Explorer, or by selecting Preferences from the Order Editor marking editor or Pattern Design.

Utilities: Copy, Move, Rename and Delete Data The original Classic AccuMark Utilities has been added under the AmExplorer Utilities drop down menu. These utilities allow for multiple storage area selections where the Save As dialog box does not have this functionality. Order Processing
Half Piece Sharing with Tables Introduction In the past, the AccuMark defined half piece sharing in the order. It required the user to enter the sharing information with the order, and the required the order to be entered from largest size to smallest size. This new half piece table improves system automation and streamlines order entry by allowing the half piecing to be automatically applied according to a predefined table, and allows sizes to be entered in a sequence that is most convenient to the marker maker. The way it works AccuMark Order will look for and use a Half piece table if: The Model for the Order has pieces assigned for Same Dir or Any Dir in the Half Piece field, AND The Laylimit table in the Order is using a fabric spread of Face-toFace, Book-fold, or Tubular, AND there is a text (.TXT) file with the same name as the laylimit table or a HALFPIECE.TXT in c:\userroot\system\mparam AND the Order does NOT have Halfpiece or Cutdown selected for Master Type. Creating a half piece table for use in an AccuMark Order

1. Create a text file in c:\userroot\system\mparam using a text editor such as Windows Notepad. The default table name is HALFPIECE.TXT. Use this file name if a single table will work for all orders. If multiple tables are needed, the file name should be the same as the laylimit table used. Example: FACETOFACE.TXT, JEANS.TXT, JACKETS.TXT 2. The first line/first word of the text file should contain the word CROSS or NOCROSS. CROSS specifies that sizes may share across a size grouping. NOCROSS specifies that sizes may NOT share across a size grouping. 3. Next is a list of Piece Categories that will be shared, separated by commas, and enclosed with brackets. [LFLY,RFLY,FLYTAB,FLY] 4. The following lines will define a section of all the sizes that may share, separated by commas, listed largest size to smallest size, for the piece categories list in the brackets. Size groups may be separated with a semicolon (;) if not all sizes are allowed to share with one another. See Example below. 5. If not all Piece Categories fit into a single size/share section, they may be defined in successive sections by defining those categories on a separate line in brackets. Fold, or Tubular fabric spread and the order does not have Master or Cutdown selected, and the model has pieces that have Half Piece defined Any Dir or Same Dir. The sizes in the order are not allowed (NOCROSS) to share across size groupings defined by the semicolon (;). A 32x38 LFLY cannot share with a 31x38 for example, even if the order is for one 32x38 and one 31x38. There are three defined size/share sections. One section defines sharing for the LFLY, RFLY, FLYTAB, and FLY. Another section defines sharing for the WAISTBAND. The last section defines sharing for HipPKT1, ipPKT2, HipPKT3, and HipPKT4. Sizes are specified largest to smallest.

TIP: A half piece table does not have to contain sizes if ONLY like sizes can share (but it must still contain the categories to share). TIP: When using a half piece table, the sizes requested in the order do not have to be ordered largest to smallest. TIP: MicroMark users can copy exiting tables to c:\userroot\system\mparam and quickly modify them for the AccuMark. Simply add CROSS or NOCROSS (as set by MicroMark Marker Option) and the Piece Categories as the top line. Be sure to find and replace all spaces between size names with commas (,). This can be done through any text editor. Often a single style uses multiple half piece tables. Copy/Paste those tables into a single table for use on the AccuMark. Halfpiece sharing first tries to share pieces of the same size. Next, pieces within the same size group are shared, for example the WAISTBAND 32x38 and 32x36. Last, if CROSS is specified, sharing can occur across groups, for example the WAISTBAND 32x38 and 30x38. The Laylimits form provides access to the Halfpiece Table, using the File menu to select Default Halfpiece File, and Halfpiece File for this Laylimit Table.

Marker Making
File Menu Two new icons have been added to the Marker Making Editor. Send to Plotter activates Marker Plot form. Send to Cutter activates the Cut Gen form.

View Menu There are three new additions to the View Menu. Marker Properties Enables user to change the Order Number and Marker Description from within the marker. These fields can also be used to add instructions for the marker border when plotting. In the Annotation Editor, add the Annotation type MS1-20 or ON1-20 to the category MARKER. Any information contained in the two fields of the Marker Properties will appear on the boarder.

Zoom Window View/ Zoom Window turns on and off a secondary window that independently zooms up upon a selected area in the marker.

Current Waste Percentage Two additional display options have been added to the Marker Info area. Toggle the button for Current Waste-CW and Total Waste-TW. CW represents the area wasted based on the pieces placed in the marker and TW displays the total wasted for the ordered pieces compared to the total area of the marker.

Colors By Bundle, Piece ID or Size Pieces can now be displayed in color according to bundle, piece type or size. This option is controlled from the Edit/ Settings/ Marker Display section for the Color By field. Preferences The Preferences option opens the P-User Environ tables for the storage areas. Note: Notation and Precision changes are activated when the marker is reopened. Seam Allowance amount for Split Piece function, Overwrite Marker and Layrule Mode are established at Order Process time. All changes are controlled PER STORAGE AREA.

AccuMark Professional Edition

Whats New 8.0.2 Installation Changes
Automatic installation of programs DXF Converter and Lconvert automatically install with the standard AccuMark Professional installation. There is no longer a separate installation step. Windows XP on NTFS by default only allows Administrators access to areas they created (for example, the application and data areas that are created during the installation of this software). A user then by default, is unable to access the data or applications installed by the administrator. Administrators of Windows 2000, NT or XP can manually set restrictions on various directories and registry entries to limit user access to programs or data areas. Permissions must be set in such environments to restore sufficient rights for user-ability. Setting permissions is not necessary for systems with FAT32 file systems. This installation will automatically launch a program called XP Permissions on all operating systems to update user permissions, granting the required rights to users. Please contact your system administrator before proceeding with these settings.

Gerber LaunchPad
Install License Program Security License File and the Install License Program AccuMark software products use a combination of software based security technology and a new hardware security key (dongle) to license and protect the software. Version 8 software will not run on a system that does not have the new key and license file. Attach the key to the parallel port of a PC or workstation. A Security License file is unique to each key. The security license file will be copied to a specific location on the hard drive by the Install License application. This combination will allow activation of the AccuMark Family software as stated in the software subscription contract.

License File The license file name is a combination of the product and key number with the file extension of .lic, for example, accumark111.lic. If the license file was received through email, save the attached file onto the desktop or to a directory on the hard drive (it is also recommended to save a backup copy onto a floppy disk). If the license file was received on a floppy, it may be installed directly from the floppy and/or copied to the desktop or location on the hard drive. Install License Program The AccuMark Family CD installs this program onto the hard drive for access at any time. Use it to copy the license file to the proper destination for use by all applications for the initial license and any upgrades that may be purchased. The AccuMark Professional and Advanced Edition software will place an Install License icon in the LaunchPad, on the AccuMark Explorer/Utilities page. The program may also be accessed through the AccuMark V8 folder, AccuMark Explorer/Utilities menu. Access the Install License program for other applications directly from the location where it was installed. Use the Windows Explorer to select c:\Program Files\Common Files\Gerber Technology\GT License Manager and run InstallLic.exe (double-click or right-click and select Open). A dialog box displays allowing selection of the Product and source location for the license file. Select the product for the license that is being installed (AccuMark is checked on by default). Use the ellipses button () to point to the location of the license file. The program by default looks for files of type .lic and will prompt to overwrite the existing license file if one already exists. Run the program once for each product.

Digitizing
Verification of Digitized Data Across the Network Verification of digitized data can now be performed by any system on a network. It is no longer limited to the PC physically connected to the digitizer. This feature is supported for both AccuMark and MicroMark digitized files. Please refer to the Configuration Notes online documentation for details. Digitizing in Text Annotation It is now possible to create text annotation during the digitizing process. This is the same type of annotation supported by Pattern Design. The text is maintained throughout the AccuMark system and is also supported in the export of ASTM style data using the Pattern Conversion Wizard. How to digitize piece text on pieces: 1. Place piece on digitizer. 2. Select Start Piece from the digitizing menu. 3. Enter the Pieces Descriptive Data including the piece name, category, piece description and rule table name, as currently documented in Online Help. 4. Use the BLANK box (next to "Follow-On Piece") on the digitizer keyboard template, to indicate text annotation to be entered. If text annotation is NOT required, skip over his step and go directly to digitizing in the grainline and piece. Using the A button on the digitizing cursor over this blank box, go to the pattern on the digitizer and indicate the starting LOCATION for text. Go back to keyboard on the digitizer and key in the following: Input the character SIZE of text followed by a delimiter* Input the text message (all text will be input using digitizer keyboard). All text will be continuous on one line unless a carriage return is indicated. To break text on a line, insert a carriage return and text will begin on a new line. Use the A button on the digitizer puck and select the second blank box after letter L on the template. Continue to input text.

AccuMark Explorer
Move Clipboard Move Clipboard provides the ability to move data items from one storage area to another in two steps. First, select items to move from a storage area by using one right mouse button click over the data item(s) and then selecting Copy. Move Clipboard can then be selected from the Edit Menu or by selecting the storage area in the All Folders Window and right clicking for right mouse button options. Select Move Clipboard to move the data, or select Move Clipboard with Components. Move automatically DELETES the data and components, if chosen, from the source storage area location. In the past, the only way to move the data was through the right mouse button drag and drop option. Now user has the option to also move data by doing a copy followed by a move function.

Save As and Rename Save As and Rename have been enhanced to allow greater flexibility in changing the names of data items. These new dialog boxes allow data to be completely renamed by deleting source data or, saved as another name, keeping the original data items. Both functions have wildcards capability built into the dialog box to change multiple data items and types in a single step. Note: Save As on a single data item will open a simple Save As dialog box. Selecting multiple items opens the expanded Save As dialog box.

Form Updates
Marker Plot Parameter Table The P-Marker Plot Parameter table has added an option to turn text annotation on or off in the marker plot output. Text annotation is added to piece data using the new digitizing method or PDS Annotate Piece function. Check the box Plot PDS Piece Annotations to include the annotation in the marker plot output and uncheck to exclude it.

Marker Making
Icon Colors Marker Making has a new option in Edit/Settings. The option "Color Icons" will display a unique color for each bundle in the menu or icon view.

Pattern Conversion Wizard

Significant changes have been made to the Pattern Conversion Wizard. The ASTM Export of styles data has been improved to allow for greater flexibility in pattern data with grading, seams and angled notches. The Grade.DLL is now used to export data. This significantly resolves notch, seam allowance, and grading issues associated with changes to Pattern Design Version 8. Export ASTM Style creates a new grade rule table from the exported style, containing valid grade-rules found on the exported pieces of the style. This function is triggered when the Export Parameters in the Conversion Configuration is set to "Export Graded Nest=NO". If a style is exported with the Conversion Configuration set to "Export Graded Nest=YES", a style will be exported with the grade rule information completely contained within the style.

Pattern Design 8.0.4

Changes since 8.0.3
Set Media changes for Plot The Set Media option in the Plot function has been changed from a button to a drop down combo box. This allows easy visibility of the current media being used and minimizes the steps needed to change the media. To change the media to another media, simply select the arrow to the right of the current medias name and select from the list of available media. The list automatically includes the options None and Default plus any media that have been customdefined. After the media is set, the value is maintained until it is changed to a new value.

Pattern Design 8.0.3

Changes since 8.0.2
Piece/Create Altered Size Create Altered Size has two new checkbox options. One checkbox can be used to specify whether the system should prompt for a new piece name or keep the existing name on the new piece. The other checkbox can be used to specify whether the new piece should maintain the existing grade rules. If the New Piece Name option is checked, the system will prompt for a piece name. If the option is not checked, the system will keep the original piece name on the new piece. If the Keep Grade Rules option is checked, the system will keep the original grade rules on the new piece. If the option is not checked, the grading will be removed from the new piece. Note: The Keep Grade Rules option only works if using the base size for the altered size. If a size other than the base size is selected, an error message is displayed.

If this option is used on a piece with seam, the seam intelligence is removed from the piece and the following message displays. This is the same effect as using Copy Piece No Seam.

Save As Image File A new function, Save As Image File has been added to the File menu. A new option called Save As Image File has also been added to the plot function. This new functionality allows a piece or pieces to be output and saved as an image file in .BMP, .EMF, or .JPEG format. The function Save As Image File outputs the piece(s) directly to an image file while the option in the plot function allows an image file to be created automatically during the plot process. For both functions, the piece output such as the notch types, grouping, and piece annotation is controlled by the plot settings.

Two new options have been added to the plot processing preferences in the AccuMark explorer, which allow control over where the file is saved and what type of image file is created. To view or set these options, go to: AccuMark Explorer/View/Process Preferences/Plot Processing. Use Default Image Directory to specify where the image file should be saved. Use Default Image Type to specify whether the file format should be .BMP, .EMF or .JPEG.

Notch/Tangent Notch and Grade/Specify Distance New Clear buttons have been added to the Tangent Notch and Specify Distance dialog boxes. The buttons will clear the values in the Amount column allowing easier editing of grading values.

Piece/Scale Piece The Scale function has been re-implemented. Use this function to scale a piece larger or smaller using a specific percentage or linear value for the X and/or Y dimensions. The scale amount is applied to the base size and the graded sizes maintain the original rule amounts. The functionality is equivalent to the Scale function in Classic AccuMark and similar to the Shrink/Stretch function in releases 8.0.1 and earlier.

If Linear is selected, type the exact measurement to increase or decrease the piece by. Use a positive amount to increase the size of the piece and a negative measurement to decrease the size of the piece. If Percent is selected, type a percent value for both the X and Y-axis. For example, to scale a piece to half its current width, enter 50. To scale a piece 14 percent larger, enter 114 (negative values are not required). The amounts shown in the example to the right would scale a piece 12 percent larger in the X dimension and 10 percent smaller in the Y Page 55 of 131 9/29/2004

dimension. Piece Menu/Delete Icon The Delete Icon option can now be used to delete multiple piece icons at one time. The CTRL key or SHFT key can be used to select multiple icons, and then right mouse button, Delete Icon will delete all selected icons. Previously only one icon could be deleted at a time.

Silhouette/Line Curve The option that existed in Classic Silhouette to enter notches and grade points in the Line/Curve function using the keyboard has been re-implemented. To add notch or grade points using the keyboard, press the pen down to indicate the point, then type G(grade rule number) or N(notch type number) on the keyboard followed by the Enter key. For example, G345N2 assigns a grade rule 345 and a notch type 2 to the point. P-User-Environment Table The P-User-Environment has been re-implemented based on customer feedback. The function System Preferences in the View menu has been removed and replaced by User Environment. The P-User-Environment may be used to control the Notation, Precision, Seam Allowance, Overwrite Marker and Layrule Mode settings from within one table. This allows settings to easily be set and saved by storage area rather than being applied universally to all storage areas. View/Undo Buffer The View Undo Buffer function that was available in Pattern Design 2.x versions has been added to the View menu and is now available for use in version 8.0.3. This function allows you to see the previous version of a piece. After making a piece modification, select the View Undo Buffer function and the piece(s). The piece or pieces will display the modifications made by the last function used on the piece. For example, the picture below shows an armhole that has been shifted using the Reshape curve function and sleeves that were shortened using Move Offset.

This function is designed to assist in verifying modifications made to a piece, similar to using the apply button in the user input or comparing the saved copy from the piece menu to the piece in the work area. In some cases, for example if a line was added or the piece was moved, the change may not be obvious using View Undo Buffer.

Changes when saving MicroMark data as AccuMark When saving MicroMark data as AccuMark data, MicroMark grain lines are converted to AccuMark F rotation. If the rotation in the AccuMark will be different than in the MicroMark, the following message displays indicating which pieces will be different.

Note: Using the MicroMark Style conversion utility (available starting with release 8.0.3) automatically re-orients pieces correctly and will provide a report of pieces that were changed. Copy Model In previous releases, Copy Model could not be used for models that had the same piece listed more than once in the model editor. Copy Model will now prompt when it finds duplicate piece names.

If Yes is chosen, Copy Model will continue the copy even though there are duplicate piece names. This should be chosen if the original pieces were listed more than once in the model editor. For example, if you list all the pieces separately by fabric groups. If No is chosen, the piece name that is a duplicate will be highlighted in the Copy Model form and the name may be edited. The system will continue to prompt until there are no more duplicate names are found. This allows the user to control the piece names and keeps pieces from being overwritten accidentally. Additionally, the file open for Copy Model now also defaults to the model that is currently open in the PDS work area. This reduces the number of steps in the typical user workflow.

Pattern Design 8.0.2

Changes since 8.0.1
Changes to Shrink Stretch Shrink Stretch has been updated so that the actual fabric shrink or stretch value may be entered and the value is applied to each size. This results in true shrink or stretch being added for all sizes, rather than adding the shrink/stretch to the base size and grading out the other sizes as was done in previous releases. Pattern Design automatically creates modified grade rules to maintain both the grading and shrink/stretch amount applied for all sizes. The method of entering Shrink / Stretch values is consistent with the Order Editor. Stretch values should be entered as negative amounts and shrink values should be entered as positive values. For example: If the original measurement of a piece is 10 in/cm, and a Shrink value of -20% is applied, the piece will be adjusted to measure 12.5 in/cm. This is an increase in size of 25%, but when the piece is cut and later shrinks 20%, it will again be 10 in/cm. Likewise, on the same piece, a Stretch value of 20% would make the piece 8.33 in/cm, a decrease in size of about 16.7%. When this adjusted piece is stretched 20%, it again measures 10 cm/in. Shrink/Stretch values are applied based on the primary grain line or grade reference line. An X Shrink/Stretch value is applied parallel to the grain/grade reference line and a Y value is applied perpendicular to the grain/grade reference line, regardless of how the piece is positioned or rotated in the work area. Linear amounts are converted internally to percentages. Shrink/Stretch also automatically adjusts the reference values of reference notches for each size. Important Note: For Group notches, the reference amount will be adjusted, however the distance between notches in a group is not adjusted. The notches will place the distance originally requested.

Changes for converting models and styles Additional information such as the MicroMark message, opposites/ flips, and material group/fabric code information is now maintained when a MicroMark style is saved as an AccuMark model, or an AccuMark model is saved as a MicroMark style. MicroMark Piece Message The MicroMark piece message may now be converted to either the AccuMark piece category or AccuMark piece description. A radio button has been added to the Style Tab in Preferences. Use this option to control how the MicroMark piece message is converted. This option may also be used when saving Models as Styles to control whether the piece category or description is used as the MicroMark piece message. If there are multiple piece descriptions and messages for a piece in a style, the new AccuMark piece will get the piece message for the first instance that exists in the style. This means that in some cases, messages may be lost because multiple piece descriptions are being folded into a single piece for the model. The AccuMark piece description and category may both be up to 20 characters long. MicroMark messages may be up to 32 characters, so messages that exceed 20 characters will be truncated and a message will display to warn the user that the message has been truncated.

Material Groups & Fabric Codes Material Groups and Fabric Codes are maintained between models and styles. For styles, if there are more than four material groups defined for a piece, there will be multiple entries in the model for the piece. This is because up to four fabric codes may be defined per line, per piece in the model editor. Additionally, if pieces in a model do not have fabric codes defined, they will be automatically assigned material group A in the style description.

Special Notes: When saving models as styles, if the Model piece contains entries for both As Digitized or X Flip and Y Flip or XY flip, only the As Digitized and X Flip values are converted. When saving styles as models, if multiple material groups exist for a piece and the flips are the same for the pieces descriptions, they will be listed on the same line in the model. If the piece descriptions for a piece have different flips, then each will have a separate line in the model. When saving a style as a model, if a grain line is defined on a piece, the resulting flip in AccuMark may be different than the opposite in MicroMark if the grain line is not parallel to the Grade Reference line. Piece icon displays the flips and fabric code(s) for the first instance of the piece in the model.

Saving styles containing tangent and perpendicular rules as models When saving a style as a model, any tangent rules for notches, which reference the first or last point of a line, are modified to keep the notch in the same location with the notch reference changed to the line intersection. This allows correct placement of notches, when styles are saved as models; especially in cases where the ends of lines may cross because they are graded using perpendicular rules.

Prefixing Piece names in Create/Edit Model The Prefix option under Create/Edit Model is now a sticky value. Once selected, Prefix will remain on, until it is deselected again. For users that use the prefix option, this eliminates the need to select the setting each time Pattern Design is opened. Changes to Specify Distance and Tangent Notch In previous version 8.0 releases it was not possible to use the Specify Distance function on a point that was not a notch. Specify Distance can now be used on other point types, and Tangent Notch can be used on existing notches or to create new graded notches. Changes to Create Altered Piece Create Altered Piece has been updated to allow multiple selection of ordered sizes out of the size code table. This allows multiple pieces to be created at one time. For example, if your size code is set up to make petite, regular, and tall sizes, all three altered pieces could be created at one time. Creating Mirrored Traced Pieces from multiple source pieces Trace piece has been enhanced to work with multiple pieces when the Mirror option is selected. A new, mirrored piece may be created from several pieces. Simply select the mirror line and then select the desired lines from the desired pieces. Annotate Piece and Marking Annotation added using Annotate Piece now displays in Marker Making. Fan Fullness and Manual Slash Lines A change was made to the Fan function to allow a portion of the piece to stay on grain. When creating manual slash lines, the area adjacent to the first slash line will now stay on grain. In the previous release, all sections of the moving piece would rotate. This change affects Manual slash lines with pieces being placed either manually or automatically. The other slash line options, proportional and perpendicular, remain the same and start pivoting at the end of the selected range. New Hot Key for Add/Remove Seams A new Hot Key, Shift R has been added for the Add/Remove Seam function.

Changes for Corners Squared Corners Square Corners may now be added to a corner that has seam allowance defined on only one of the adjacent lines.

View Corner Types View /Corner Types now displays manual/severed corners in addition to system-generated seam corners.

Plotting of notches on seam internals and end of line locations Notches located at the end of internal lines or seam internals will now plot. Additionally, notches marking the mirror line location will now plot on the corresponding seam internal. To accommodate this change, notches on the sew lines will always plot as slits regardless of position. Notches on the cut line will continue to plot their actual shape. The image below shows a mirrored piece with five different types of notches as well as a notch marking the mirror line and notches at the end of an internal line. Note: Notches at the end of internal lines need to be notches with zero (0) perimeter width either slit or T notches. Other notches types are not supported.

Using the Problem Report Utility with Pattern Design When using the Problem Report Utility to send in enhancement, problem, or support requests, the Problem Report Utility will prompt you for the data and automatically compress and attach it to the report. When starting Pattern Design, you will notice the replay icon display as disabled at the bottom right of your screen. When this icon is visible, the Problem Report Utility will be able to attach the data. When this icon is not visible, or if using data other than AccuMark pieces and models, the data will need to be attached manually to the Problem Report. Note: If you typically run Pattern Design from a shortcut, you can easily alter the shortcut so that replay starts with Pattern Design. Simply right mouse button over the shortcut and select properties. Then, enter the path where Pattern Design is installed in the Start In field. Install License Program The AccuMark Family Product CD now installs an Install License program that easily copies your license file into the proper destination for use by AccuMark applications. To Run Install License Run the Install License program from the AccuMark Explorer, Utilities page, on the LaunchPad or AccuMark V8 folder.

A dialog box displays allowing you to choose the Product and source location for the license file.

Run the program once for each Product. The program, by default, looks for files of type .lic (your license file should come with the extension of .lic, for example, accumark.lic). It will prompt you to overwrite the existing license file if one already exists.

AccuMark Version Changes In 8.0.1 the AccuMark version naming has been changed. All storage areas created in 7.6.x will be named Version 7 and all 8.0 storage areas will be named Version 8. Previously, AccuMark storage areas created in 7.6.x were named Version 3 and Storage areas created on 8.0.0 Professional Edition were named Version 4 Data Compatibility Data is compatible between versions 7 and 8. All data items can be copied or moved from a version 7 to a version 8 storage area. All data items except pieces can be copied or moved from a version 8 to a version 7 storage area. In this situation, use the new function in the File Menu, Export V8 Pieces to V7. This will enable version 8 piece data to be used in a version 7 storage area.

New AccuMark Backup Wizard AccuMark Backup is a program designed to allow easy backup and restoration of AccuMark storage areas. AccuMark Backup also allows for unattended scheduling of backups by using the Microsoft Task Scheduler. Backup is accomplished by running backup jobs. Restoration is accomplished by dragging and dropping either individual items or entire storage areas. Jobs can also be created to run check files on all the storage areas on one or more drives. Backup A backup is a file stored on your computers hard drive which contains a copy of the AccuMark storage areas on your disk at the time the backup was run. The backup file itself has a .bak extension. The backup log file has a .log extension. Backups are stored in a folder which is set in the AccuMark Backup property page.

To set the backup folder, right click on AccuMark Backup, then click Properties. On the Options property page, set the backup folder in the Backup path edit box.

About the backup file naming convention Backups are named according to the following naming convention.

computer name drive year month and day time

For example, the file accu2k_c_2001_0821_154201.bak is a backup created on the computer named accu2k, contains storage areas on drive c:, which was created on August 21st, 2001 at 3:42PM.

To manage backups, the following options are available:

To Restore All storage areas in a backup, on the All Tasks menu, click Restore All. This will restore all the storage areas and data items to the drive they were originally backed up from. An overwrite warning is given for each storage area. To View the Log file generated when the backup was created, on the All Tasks menu, click View Log. To Delete a backup, click the Delete menu item or toolbar icon. This removes the selected backup and log file from disk.
To Rename a backup, click the Rename menu item. This will rename the selected backup and log file.

Creating a Backup Job Creating a backup, or check files job, is most easily accomplished using the New Job Wizard. To start the wizard, right click on the Jobs item and click New -> Job. The New Job Wizard will guide you through the creation and scheduling of a new job. New Job Wizard

Marker Making
New Scoop Functions Scoop includes four new functions. For a complete explanation of the Scoop function, refer to the online help from the marker making editor. After creating a scoop, use one of the following new functions to place the scoop in the desired location. Scoop Build Down Places scoops in a downward direction in the marker. Selecting Scoop Build Down and Scoop Build Left will place scoops in columns in a downward and left direction. Scoop Build Up Places scoops in an upward direction in the marker. Selecting Scoop Build up, and Build Right will place scoops in columns in an upward and right direction. Changes to Preferences Preference for Notch Display A new option Show Actual Notch Depth has been added to the Display tab of Preferences/Options. When checked, the notches will display on screen as their actual length. This is equivalent to the display of notches on release 8.0.0. For AccuMark Data, the depth is read from the notch table set in preferences and for MicroMark Data, the depth is read from each notch. External notches will point outside the piece. When the option is unchecked, notches are displayed as symbols. This makes the notches easier to see from a distance or when multiple pieces are in the work area. Having Show Actual Notch Depth unchecked, is equivalent to the notch display in Classic AccuMark and the PDS 2000 2.x series of releases.

Graphic Preferences The option 'Make new renderer the default renderer' has been removed from the Graphics tab of preferences and 'Save' may now be used to make a newly selected rendered the default. This allows graphics preferences to be saved or applied the same as all other preferences. Changes for AutoSave Due to new methods of working and using Pattern Design, AutoSave often did not work properly or ran into conflicts. As a result, AutoSave functionality has been removed from PDS preferences. In some cases, it is still possible to work effectively with AutoSave on. If you have been working successfully with this option, please see the release notes for additional information on how to set up PDS to continue using this option.

V7/V8 Compatibility Options As a result of user feedback, the AccuMark V7 compatibility options have been renamed and changed to radio buttons to make the options easier to understand. The functionality remains the same. When V7 (Disable V8 Functionality) is selected, all V8 functions and options that are not compatible with V7 are disabled. When V8 (Enable V8 Functionality) is selected, all new V8 functionality is available for use.

Additionally, when running in V7 compatibility mode, the Show Warnings checkbox is not applicable and is now displayed grayed out.

Changes for Notches New Locations for Delete Notch and View Notch Functions To allow easier access from the drop down menus, the Delete Notch and View Notch functions are now available from the main menus of the Notch and View menus, respectively. Copy Distance The function option Match Distance in Add Reference Notch and Move Reference Notch has been renamed to Copy Distance to more accurately reflect the functionality. The prompt has also been improved to make the option easier to understand and use.

Attribute and Point Number Support Special point numbers and the L, K, and E cutter attributes are now supported for Reference Notches. The point number or attribute may be applied directly to the notch and will move with the notch on the graded sizes.

New Symbol for Tangent Rules A new symbol has been added to indicate Tangent Grade rules. The symbol is similar to the triangle symbol used for delta grade rules except that the bottom point is rounded. Selecting Piece Annotation Selecting multiple annotations added using the function Piece/Annotate Piece is now easier. When existing annotation is selected, the Edit Annotation dialog displays. Two new buttons, Previous and Next now allow you to scan through multiple existing annotations on a piece. This functionality is particularly helpful for selecting annotations that are close together or difficult to select.

New Options for Fan Fullness The Fan Fullness function now includes three options to determine how slash lines are handled on the piece that has fan fullness added. The prompts have also been reworded to clearly indicate the pivot and open side when creating the slash lines. Select from the following three Slash Line options: None Fullness is added and the final piece does not show any slash lines. The line fullness was added to or removed from is a continuous line. The points are left in the location where the individual sections were placed, giving the user control of the final result. This result is similar to other fullness functions. Keep as Internals Draws the slash line for the beginning and end of placement so the exact areas where fullness was added or removed may be seen. The lines are internal lines and the perimeter line fullness was added to or removed from is a continuous line. Keep as Darts Keeps the areas where the piece was slashed and spread as darts. This is similar to the result in 8.0.0 and when working manually. The system automatically splits the slashed area from the perimeter line and considers the lines as darts. Note: Darts must be 120 degrees or less. Any areas spread greater than 120 degrees with the option Keep as Darts will remain as part of the continuous perimeter line and will not become a system-recognized dart. Swap Sew/Cut Swap Sew/Cut now includes an option to apply Adjust Seam Grading when the piece is swapped. This functionality is especially useful for pieces using the Generate Seam Corners method for seam. When the Generate Seam and Corners method is used for seam, grade rules exist on the solid perimeter line and the seam internals do not have grade rules because they are generated. When swap sew/cut is used with the generate mode, the grade rules are moved from one set of lines to the other set of lines. In some cases, this can cause the shape of the graded sizes to change slightly. This is because mathematically, a slightly different grade value is needed for the different locations. Selecting the option Adjust Seam Grading will automatically calculate the correct values for the new location and apply modified rules when the piece is swapped. This allows the geometry to be maintained for all graded sizes when the piece is swapped. Additionally, a new warning message has been added to Swap Sew/Cut. The message displays if Swap Sew/Cut is used on a piece with generated seam and the Adjust Seam Grading option is not selected.

Grade Rule Display with Generated Seam When seam properties for a piece are set to the Generate Seam/Corners mode, seam internals and seam corners are generated for each individual size in the nest instead of being graded. This means that in generate mode, grade rules are only necessary for the solid perimeter line. In previous releases, grade rules displayed on both sets of lines even though only one set was being used. For pieces using the Generate Seam/Corners mode, grade rules now display only for the solid lines. This more accurately depicts the grade rules that are being used for the piece.

Digitized Boundary / Current Boundary Mismatch (MK) In Classic MicroMark the current boundary (solid line) and the original digitized boundary are always the same value, either sew or cut. In Pattern Design, they may be different. Unlike the MicroMark function Switch Digitized, Swap Sew/Cut does not require the current boundary and digitized boundary to be the same. However, to ensure proper processing on Classic MicroMark, Pattern Design now requires that the digitized boundary be the same as the current boundary when saving data in the MicroMark style format. A good working practice is to always swap the piece back to the original state it was in when retrieved, or to use Fix Boundary on the piece. If PDS detects a mismatch when you attempt to save the style, the following message displays indicating the problem pieces. The style will not be saved until the pieces are corrected.

AccuMark Explorer
AccuMark Explorer launches Windows based forms for AccuMark editors. This includes forms for digitizing, rule tables, piece and marker plot, parameters, order process, marker making, cut process, utilities and reports. Hotlinks in Editors The function key F2 is now implemented in all forms. Previously, it was only available in System Management forms. Use this function by positioning the cursor in a data item field and press the F2 function key. The data item will be opened in its associated form. Edits can be made and saved without having to open the forms individually. Hotlink Example: Using F2 in the Annotation data field of the Order form.

User Environment changes The User Environment Parameter table associated with Classic AccuMark to set up notation and options is no longer a data item in 8.0 It has been replaced by Preferences and Options. However, the editor is still provided for instances when an older version of another software application is used in conjunction with the AccuMark Professional Edition. Preferences and Options Preference and Option settings replace the notation settings and options that were set up in AccuMark Utilities and the User Environment table in the AccuMark Classic Edition. They are located in the View Menu of AM-Explorer and the individual forms. When an option is changed it is GLOBAL and it will take effect when a new form is opened in all storage areas.

Preferences Forms can be filled in with imperial or metric values depending on your personal preferences. Changing the notation from anywhere in AM-Explorer updates the environment for all data in all storage areas.

Process Preferences In addition to the View menu Options in individual forms, there are four process option selections located in the AccuMark Explorer View menu to setup user preferences for Order Process, Plot and Cut processing and the default storage area for verifying digitized data. An Autoprocessing option enables users to bypass the forms during order, marker plot and cut processing. These options are also selectable from the individual forms.

Additional AM-Explorer Utilities Move(data), Export(cut), Import(plot) and Import(digitize) utilities have been added to the AM-Explorer File Menu. This functionality used to be in the AccuMark Utilities menu in Classic System Management The Move function is activated by selecting an AccuMark data item and dragging it with the right mouse button over to another storage area. Select MOVE from the right mouse button options. The Export function exports AccuMark cut data items to a DOS file location. It is a right mouse button option that is activated when selecting the AccuMark cut data items in a storage area. Import Plot This function enables users to select plot files (generic or hpgl) from a dos file location, and import it in an AccuMark storage area as a plot data item. Import Digitize This function imports digitized data from a dos file location and stores it in an AccuMark storage area as a stored digitized data item.

Interface Changes in AccuMark Explorer

All data types will be either V7 (V3) or V8 (V4) data. All data types except piece data can be used by V7 or V8 of the AccuMark. Create Storage Area Creating New Storage Areas Only data of one version can be in the same storage area. Version 7 and Version 8 data cannot be in the same storage area. When creating new storage areas, they are created as either V7 or V8. Two functions now exist in File/New, Storage Area and V7 Storage Area. Existing storage areas are V7.

The version number of storage areas is displayed in AccuMark Explorer when a device is selected in the left pane.

Export Data and Send to Mail Recipient When exporting or emailing data a warning is displayed stating that there could be compatibility issues with the piece data between V8 and V7. This warning is only displayed when exporting piece data. The file can be imported into a storage area of either version; however, no warning is displayed when a zipped file is imported into a storage area.

Copy and Paste Piece data cannot be copied from a V8 storage area to a V7 storage area. If Copy and Paste, or drag and drop, is used the following error message is displayed and the data is not moved. Data can be copied from V7 storage areas to V8 storage areas.

Accessing Version 8 data in earlier versions of software AccuMark 7.6.5 cannot access data is V8 storage areas. An error, Database version mismatch is given in System Management and Classic PDS if a V8 storage area is selected. In Marking, a lookup can be displayed for a V8 storage area but no data items are displayed.

The Rule Table Form All functions are available through drop-down menus or toolbar icons. The Rule Table tab displays the size line and the Rules tab displays the grade rules. Rule values are created and edited using standard Windows functionality, such as cut and paste. Some functions will only be active if you have a rule selected and highlighted.

AccuMark Alteration Point Smoothing AccuMark automatically supports the smoothing of alteration points previously known to the AM-5 system. The smoothing or, blending of alteration movements is automatically controlled in the system after the alteration is applied.

Digitized data can be verified and edited from AccuMark Explorer or PDS. To Verify Digitized data from AccuMark Explorer From a specific storage area, simply rightclick on a digitized data file in the right pane of AccuMark Explorer and select the Verify option. Or, to verify digitized data from the digitizer, select the Digitizer option in the left pane of AccuMark Explorer and then verify the files displayed in the right pane. Multiple files can be selected for verification at one time using standard Windows multiple selection techniques such as using the SHIFT or CTRL keys.

Edit Digitize The Edit Digitize form is used when opening digitized data or when an error occurs upon Verify. Once any errors in digitizing are fixed, the data can be saved as AccuMark piece data.

PDS
AccuMark Professional Edition uses PDS to verify digitized data, display and create new styles and pieces. Verify Digitized Data from PDS In addition to AccuMark Explorer, digitized data can also be retrieved and verified in PDS. The data is automatically saved to the current storage area. To verify from PDS 1. Select File / Open. 2. Change the file type to AccuMark Digitize Data. 3. Digitizer data is in the Digitizer area. 4. Stored digitized data is located in the storage area.

Import and Export User Settings Two new functions have been added to the LaunchPad to allow PDS user settings to be duplicated on multiple systems. These functions will enable PDS users to save custom settings for the PDS environment. This includes items such as custom toolbars, desktop settings, preferences and colors. Export User Settings Saves the information to a file and exports it to a designated directory. Import User Settings Imports file to the destination PC and overwrites current settings according to the options checked. All three checkboxes must be checked in order to duplicate the same settings created by the source PC.

Plotting
All plotting output is processed through AccuMark Explorer or LaunchPad, in the new Piece and Marker Plot forms. Parameters and options are set up for pieces and markers using the new parameter table forms. Sizes and ranges can be selected from a menu to override default parameters. User can also type in smallest,largest,ba se or breaks in the Sizes field.

Hotlinks F2 can be used to launch the piece or marker plot parameter table from the piece or marker plot forms. Options to plot to a DOS file are located in the View Menu. Includes the support for long filenames up to 64 characters when sending to a DOS file in Piece Plot, Marker Plot and Cut Process.

Marker Making
Piece Counts in Marker Making Before this release, the fold option in marker making created one folded piece for tubular goods. The only way to create an added piece was through the split piece function. However, this method did not keep an accurate count of the left and right pieces. Piece counts are now automatically updated when using folded pieces on tubular goods. The user can choose to keep one piece, or add an additional piece when folding. The left and right piece counts are maintained to ensure the proper number of pieces in the completed marker. If a folded piece needs to be opened again, the user is prompted to delete the additional piece that was added. The Tubular folding option for the added piece is located in the marking Settings options.

Generate Splice

Splice generation in marker making has been corrected. When two possible splices are detected at the same location, the system now uses the larger splice. Previously the smaller splice was displayed.

Dynamic Split The dynamic split function will now maintain matching relationships between split pieces on plaid or stripe goods. This feature was only available to Classic Edition furniture key users prior to AccuMark Professional 8.0

Sliding Layrules This feature which was previously enabled only with Batch Processing, is now available to the Professional user. It allows users to record the pieces sliding into the marker so it can be stored and applied to new markers. Refer to the online help for details on setting up Sliding Layrules.

Import of MicroMark Markers MicroMark markers can be imported into the AccuMark 8.0 release. The markers are converted and stored as AccuMark data. Import uses the MicroMark marker directory by default as the source location. If MicroMark is not installed, create the subdirectory c:\ads\mkrdir to import markers from the local drive. Import can also read the floppy drive directly.

MK Import Report The MK Import Report generates a text file reporting the status of all the imported MicroMark markers. The report generator is located on the LaunchPad under the Marker Creation, Editors section.

New Invision Option A new option has been added to marking Settings to enable control of matched piece locations with regard to bites on a GerberCutter. The system now checks for matches between pieces that double back across a bite. If this case is identified by the system, the piece can only be placed in the same bite. Mark the check box to enable Invision Matching and input the table size in the Invision Match value field.

Option to Highlight Piece Perimeter A new option has been added to Marker Making Settings to control the highlighting of the current piece. Check the box to highlight entire piece or uncheck to highlight only the piece perimeter.

Some customers prefer to use 3.3 format because it is much more accurate in its placement of data points. This can be an important issue when cutting small radius curves or circles. However, if the marker is longer than 999.999 inches, 3.3 data is inadequate, and 4.3 data becomes necessary. Cut files can be exported to multiple DOS file locations. The view options set the default cut location unless specified by another location.

Cut Plot Cut files can be processed to a plotter directly from a DOS location. Uncheck the Storage Area option at the top of the form. Set up the Cut options to point to the cut location path. The source location for the DOS cut files should be set in the View Cut Options.

You can access SQL storage areas on computers within the same workgroups, provided you are connected through a network or physical cables connected to each machine, and if you have the proper permissions. Pattern Design 8.0

Notches Overview In an effort to simplify grading of curves and enhance notch placement on lines, notch definition has changed at a system level. Notches are now an object on a line rather than a point that helps to define the shape of a line. Notches are now attached to some other object like points, lines, pleats, etc. New notch editing tools have been included which will be used to modify the location of notches on lines. The Move Point or Move Smooth functions are no longer used to change the location of notches. Changing notch locations no longer changes the shape of a line. Notch locations may be defined so that the notch maintains its position along the line as the shape or length of the line is modified. Now, when using a function like Move Smooth on a line with this type of notch, the notch will maintain its correct location without the need for additional edits. Another important change is that notches can now float along a line, changing position between points and lines on graded sizes. The notch can jump over existing points to maintain its relative position. This means that with Specify Distance, the shape of the curve will not be distorted, and that notches may be located on different lines on different graded sizes. Intersection notches, which were previously only available on MicroMark systems, are now supported on AccuMark data. Notches can also be maintained at the extension of dart and pleat lines. Reference Points Since notches are no longer data points, they must be attached to an object on the piece. This is called the reference point. The reference point is located on the base size and the notch can be at the same location as the reference point (base point) or at a specified distance or percentage away from the reference point. Notches can also reference another object such as a line, dart or pleat. Since these notches are attached to a reference point, the notches are modified as the reference point is modified. For example, when the reference point is deleted, the notch is also deleted. Functions that alter the shape of the piece may be used on the reference point and the notch will automatically follow. When opening data created on previous software versions, all notches will have reference points that are zero distance from the notch. This means that the reference point is at the same location as the notch. This ensures compatibility and accuracy between software versions. When you store pieces in version 8, the notchs reference and grading information will be saved in the piece. If you open a piece, created in version 8, in version 7.6.5 or earlier, the notch will be seen as a point. None of the new notch capabilities will be recognized in version 7.6.5 or earlier versions. Tangent Grading Tangent grading is a new technique that is used on notches to control their location on graded sizes. Only one value is required when using tangent grading. The tangent grading values are defined so that the notch will be graded at a distance from the reference point. Positive and negative values control the direction of the notch placement. Example 1: A skirt is graded for sizes 4-14. All sizes will use a 9inch zipper. Using a tangent grade on the zipper notch, allows you to easily keep the distance the same on all sizes. Example 2: A blouse is designed where the front armhole notch moves inch per size. Example 3: A child pant is designed for sizes 4-6X and sizes 7-14. Sizes 4-5 will use a 6-inch zipper; sizes 6X, 7 and 8 will use a 7-inch zipper; sizes 10-14 will use an 8-inch zipper. Assuming base up-down incremental grading and a base size of 7, the notch will move 1 inch in the positive for sizes 4 and 5. The notch will not move for sizes 6X, 7 and 8. On sizes 10-14 the notch will move 1 inch in the negative direction. When a notch is tangent graded, the reference point is not at the same location as the notch location. They cannot be selected in functions such as move point or move point line/slide and do not display in the point info box.

Other Changes The positioning of ANGLED notches between the sew lines and cut lines has also changed. In prior releases of AccuMark, an angled notch was placed in the perpendicular direction between the sew and cut lines. Now, the notch is placed in the direction of the angle of the notch between the sew and cut lines (see illustration below). The MicroMark has an option in System Options to display notches in either manner. Currently, PDS 2000 is not reading this option.

Notch Functions Overall, the new concept of notches requires changes to existing functions and the addition of many new functions, as well as changes to the 'engines' underneath that do the calculations. As mentioned above, certain functionality is no longer available for use on notches since they are no longer data points. Accordingly, the notch information in the Edit Point Info tab has been moved to a new tab called Edit Notch Info, which deals strictly with notch properties. A new menu, Notch, which contains the functions for notches, has also been added to the drop-down menus. Add Notch The Add Notch function has been moved from the Point Menu to the Notch menu. The general functionality remains the same. All notches are added with base points, so the base point options are no longer necessary. Use the N Attribute / Turn Point checkbox to add an N attribute or Turn modifier to the notch base point. A notch added using this function, or a notch which has a base point, is referred to as a Standard Notch. When existing AccuMark data is retrieved, the notches are converted to Standard Notches and the base point is placed underneath the notch. Angled Notch The Add Notch function has been moved from the Modify Point Menu to the Notch menu. The general functionality remains the same. All notches are added with base points, so the base point options are no longer necessary. Use the N Attribute / Turn Point checkbox to add an N attribute or Turn modifier to the notch base point.

Intersection Notch The Intersection Notch function has been moved from the Point Menu to the Notch menu. Intersection notches are now supported for AccuMark data. Intersection Notch adds a notch on a perimeter line at the intersection of two lines or where two lines would intersect if extended. This notch type is commonly used on a mirror line. If one of the two lines is repositioned, the notch point moves in relation to it. Intersection Notches do not have base points.

Specify Dist / Tangent Tangent grading is used on notches to control notch positioning along curve shapes when grading. Tangent grading maintains the smoothness of a curve as a notch is graded. Use Specify Distance/Tangent to create a new Tangent graded notch or to edit an existing Tangent rule previously created with this function. Specify Distance /Tangent is located in the notch and grade menus. When a Tangent Notch is applied on AccuMark data it is also a Reference Notch. Use Group option to add and grade multiple notches together. Notch Position on Seam determines where the notch is positioned on the seam internal. Perpendicular places the notch along the perpendicular from the perimeter. Notch Angle positions the notch along the direction of the notch angle. Same Distance on Seam places the notch the same reference distance on the seam internals and perimeter.

A Tangent grade rule uses only one value, as opposed to two values (X and Y) required in delta grading. Plus and minus values determine whether growth is in the clockwise or counter-clockwise direction from the sample size (Base up-down grading methods) or previous size (Small-Large Incremental method). If a notch is 10 cm from its reference point on the base size, and an amount of 0.00 cm is specified, then the notch will be 10 cm from the reference point on all sizes. If 1 cm is entered, than the notch would be 10 cm from the reference point on the base size, 11 cm on the next size up, 12 cm on the next size and so on.

The example on the left shows the values entered and the result using the Base Up-Down Incremental grading method. The notch grows .25 inch between the smaller sizes and the base and .50 inch between the base size and each larger size. Page 108 of 131 9/29/2004

Reference Notch/Add (AccuMark Only) A Reference Notch is a notch that is positioned along a line of the base size with a user-defined distance to a Reference Location. The distance between the notch and the reference location can be defined as a percentage or a constant. As geometry is modified, reference notch positions update, maintaining the distance to the reference point. Notch Position on Seam determines where the notch is positioned on the seam internal. Perpendicular places the notch along the perpendicular from the perimeter. Notch Angle positions the notch along the direction of the notch angle. Same Distance on Seam places the notch the same reference distance on the seam internals and perimeter. Use the Match Distance option to add a notch so that the Reference Distance is equal to the Reference Distance of a notch on another piece. Note: Reference Distance of the source notch should be a value other than 0.00. Use Group to add a group of notches positioned a specific distance from a reference point. Specify the Distance between notches in the group and the number of notches desired.

There are several ways the relationship between a reference notch and reference point can be broken: If the line is split between the reference notch and the reference point when the reference amount is a percentage. Splitting the piece between the reference notch and the reference point Deleting the reference point. Reference Notch/Delete Delete Reference Notch is used to remove a reference notch and the reference information from the reference point. When used on one notch in a group of notches all of the notches in the group are deleted. This functionality replaces the use of Notch type 0 and editing attributes to remove notches.

Reference Notch/Move Move Reference Notch slides a reference notch along a line. When the notch is moved the reference amount saved with the piece automatically updates. The function can also be used on a standard notch and convert it to a Reference Notch. Notch Groups can also be moved. After one of the notches in the group is moved, the other notches are repositioned by the system. Use the Match Distance option to automatically position a notch so that the reference distance matches the reference distance of the source notch.

Reference Notch/Change Reference The change reference function is used to change the reference point of a reference notch. When this function is used, the notch will no longer refer to the previous reference point but will update based on the new reference point selected. Use Add Base Point to convert a reference notch into a Standard notch. A base point is added under the notch location. Use the N Attribute / Turn Point checkbox to add an N attribute or Turn modifier to the notch base point.

In the Change Reference function, the reference point and the distance between the notch and reference point is displayed. The notch type also displays next to the notch.

Reference Notch/Group Use the Group function to create a Reference notch group from existing notches. Select the reference point and then the notches to be included in the group. The notch closest to the reference point is the notch from which the reference distance is measured. If the spacing between the notches is not equal, the system will correct the notch placement to make them equally spaced. Notch Position on Seam determines where the notch is positioned on the seam internal. Perpendicular places the notch along the perpendicular from the perimeter. Notch Angle positions the notch along the direction of the notch angle. Same Distance on Seam places the notch the same reference distance on the seam internals and perimeter.

Reference Notch/Add Group On Line & Add Group Ln Distance Use these functions to add a group of notches evenly spaced between two points (Add Group on Line) or a specified distance apart (Add Group Ln Dist). When the line is modified the group maintains the spacing between the notches. These functions are similar to Add notch with Multiple/Proportional on Line or Multiple/Distance on line, except the group maintains the spacing as geometry is modified. Use Ends to Receive Notches to control which end(s) of range get notches. Notch Position on Seam determines where the notch is positioned on the seam internal. Perpendicular places the notch along the perpendicular from the perimeter. Notch Angle positions the notch along the direction of the notch angle. Same Distance on Seam places the notch the same reference distance on the seam internals and perimeter. Number Of notches is the number to add between (not including) the ends. (Add Group on Line only)

Edit Notch Info Edit Notch Info is used to change the settings for a notch. The Notch Type, Grade Rule, Angle, Depth (MicroMark only), and Dist to Ref can all be edited. When Dist to Ref is changed, the notch is repositioned on the line. Notch Position on Seam determines where the notch is positioned on the seam internal. Perpendicular places the notch along the perpendicular from the perimeter. Notch Angle positions the notch along the direction of the notch angle. Same Distance on Seam places the notch the same reference distance on the seam internals and perimeter. Groups can also be created in Edit Notch Info. When the Group option is ON, the spacing between notches and the number of notches is specified. The group is created on the line to the side opposite the Reference Point. X and P Attributes X and P attributes are being converted to reference notches when retrieved into PDS version 8.0. The distance to the next or previous grade point is assigned to the notch and the notch is placed onto the grade point so the distance will be maintained. The X or P attribute will no longer be displayed in version 8.0 for the converted notches. If the piece is stored and retrieved back into a previous version, the attribute will be present. Notch Depth PDS version 8 displays notches using the actual depth. For AccuMark data, the notch depth is displayed using the depth defined in the P-Notch Table in the default Storage Area. The default Storage Area is defined in Preferences/Paths/AccuMark Storage Area. If the depth defined in the P-Notch Table is 0.00, the notch does not display but View/Point/Notch can be used to display the notch type. For MicroMark data, the depth defined for each notch is used.

Seam Changes The Seam page in Preferences has been removed. The Fix Seam Corners and Show Seam Warning options have been moved to the General page of Preferences. Note: If Fix Seam Corners is ON, then seam extensions are automatically applied to any corners that have corners fixed when they are retrieved. Seam settings are now stored with the piece rather than being applied globally. This gives the user more control and provides consistent results when pieces are retrieved on different systems. This also allows special or advanced seam settings to be selectively applied only to problem pieces. Default settings are applied for pieces that were saved in previous releases without seam settings.

Define Seam The Function Option area of Define Seam has been changed. The Seam Extension and Move Endpoints options have been removed and an Edit Seam Properties button has been added. The Edit Seam Properties button displays a dialog box with the various options for defining seam. Many options previously available in Seam Preferences are available in Edit Seam Properties. The first two radio button options, Maintain Seam Properties and Edit Seam Properties, determine whether the existing properties set in the piece will be used or if the properties will be set when seam is defined. Maintain Seam Properties uses the properties already set on the piece Edit Seam Properties applies the settings when seam is defined. If the Seam Extensions box is checked, seam extensions will be applied when seam is defined. If Generate Seam / Corners is selected, seam internals and seam corners will be generated on the graded sizes at plot and Orderload time. If Grade Seam / Corners is selected, seam internals and seam corners will be graded using grade rules to create the graded sizes. If Grade Seam / Corners is selected, the additional options Auto Update Seam and Adjust Seam Grading are available. Auto Update Seam updates the sew and cut lines together when the piece is modified. Adjust Seam Grading creates modified grade rules so that the seam will be parallel on the graded sizes. Update Seam Update Seam has the same Edit Seam Properties button and dialog box that has been added to Define Seam. This can be used if pieces are retrieved that have seam allowance defined, but need the seam properties for the piece changed. For example, data retrieved from Classic AccuMark PDS may have seam and seam corners defined. Update Seam can be used to set the seam options without having to redefine the seam and corners. For pieces with Adjust Seam Grading set to off, Adjust Seam Grading may be applied on a one-time basis by using the radio button Adjust Seam Grading and setting Edit Seam Properties to Maintain. This will apply a one-time update to seam but keep Adjust Seam

Grading OFF for the piece. This is similar to using Adjust Seam Grading in Classic AccuMark. Sever and Relate Boundary The Sever and Relate Boundary functions have been renamed to Grade Seam/Corners and Generate Seam/Corners.

Use the options Auto Update Seam and Adjust Seam grading in the Grade Seam/Corners function to set the appropriate seam properties when a piece is switched from the Generate method to the Grade Seam/Corners method.

Orderload Orderload has been updated so that data may be saved with the sew lines as the piece perimeter and the cut lines perimeter will automatically be sent to marker making. This means that while working is PDS, it is not necessary to use Swap Sew/Cut to constantly change the perimeter while making pattern changes.

Intersection Problems on Graded Sizes It is possible to add seam corners to a base size, which cannot be generated correctly, or cannot be generated at all on the graded sizes due to invalid geometry. When saving a piece and an error is found on a graded size the following error is displayed. The grading will need to be corrected before proceeding.

It is also possible that the system can find an intersection on the graded sizes when creating a seam corner, but the intersection is wrong. The system cannot capture these cases and no error will be given. It is important to check the grading of pieces before sending them to marking or plotting. The case illustrated below can no longer be repeated because extensions are being added to all Match Corners even if Seam Extensions are OFF.

Interface Changes in PDS Two new options have been added to the General page of Preferences in PDS in the AccuMark Piece Version 7 Compatibility section. The two options are Disable V8 Functions/Options and Show Warnings. When the Disable V8 Functions/Options checkbox is ON, all of the functions in the system that will create data that is not compatible with AccuMark Version 7.6.5 or earlier are disabled. Functions, Function Options or fields can be disabled by this option. The image below shows 2 new 8.0 seam corner functions, Envelope Corner and Slanted Step Corner, disabled because the Disable V8 Functions/Options checkbox is ON.

When the Show Warnings checkbox is ON, a warning is displayed in any function not compatible with Version 7.6.5 or earlier is selected. A checkbox, Dont show this Warning Again, can be selected to prevent the message from displaying.

In addition, a V8 tag has been placed in the drop-down menu option next to the options that are disabled when the Disable V8 Functions/Options checkbox is ON. Opening, Saving and Exporting Data in PDS When the Disable V8 Functions/Options checkbox is ON, File/Open displays only V7 Storage Areas. In addition, Save and Save As will save data as V7 data. If the checkbox is OFF, File/Open displays V7 and V8 storage areas, and Save and Save As will save data as V8 data.

When the Disable V8 Functions/Options checkbox is OFF, Export can be used to save data as V7 data. Export data is the only way to move V8 data into a V7 storage area. If in V8 mode, but the Store Data to Preference is set to Default and Default is a V7 storage area, Save will cancel. If the Store Data to Preference is set to Retrieved Area, the system prompts to select another storage area. If in V7 mode and data is retrieved from a V8 storage area, Save will cancel. Alterations Alterations can now be displayed in PDS. Several functions have been added including, View/Grade/Show Actual Sizes + Alterations, File/Plot Altered, and Piece/Create Piece/Altered Size. Pieces are now smoothed after the alterations are applied providing a result that is the same as the AM-5. Show Actual Sizes + Alterations Show Actual Sizes + Alterations are used to apply the Alteration Library, Size Code, Alteration Rule and Rule Amount. This is similar to the Display Altered function in Piece Verify. File/Plot Altered Plot Altered uses the same Alteration Setup dialog box that is used in Show Actual Sizes + Alterations when an altered size is sent to the plotter. Create Piece/Altered Size Create Piece/Altered Size is used to save an Altered Piece with a new piece name. Create Piece/Altered Size uses the same Alteration Setup dialog box that is used in Show Actual Sizes + Alterations. The color of the altered piece in controlled by Preferences/Color/Smallest Color.

Preferences System Preferences System Preferences is used in place of the User Environment Parameter Table to specify Notation and decimal Precision. This setting is system-wide, not per storage area. Grade Options Grade Options are used in place of the User Environment Parameter Table to specify the Grade Method. This setting is system-wide, not per storage area. Near Color A new option, Near Color, is now available in Piece Colors section of the Preferences/Color tab. An object, such as a line, changes to the Near color when cursor is close enough to select the object. After selection, the object will display in selected color. Combined with the cursor shape changing, this functionality assists new users in learning selection techniques and provides feedback to the user during selection.

The image above right is an example using the preference color settings shown. The image shows a selected line (right) displayed in red and the line near enough for selection (top) displayed in pink. Display Tab The piece display options previously on the General Tab in Preferences have been moved to a new tab called Display.

Graphics Tab

PDS has been redesigned with a New Graphics Engine. This change improves display capabilities, allows display and speed enhancements, and provides GDI and OpenGL generic display functionality. The graphics controls and options are located on a new tab in Preferences called Graphics.
Choose from Installed Renderers: GDI works on all windows systems and is the initial PDS default. OpenGL may be used with video cards that support OpenGL technology. Note: Display is sluggish if OpenGL is selected when it should not be. Enable Anti-Aliasing provides a thicker, smoother line. This option is available when OpenGL renderer is selected.

Sort rendering for speed allows faster redrawing of the screen by changing the order that lines and colors are drawn. This option is not recommended for use with the Filled Pieces option -- the color fill may hide smaller sizes. After you have verified the renderer settings work as desired for your system, select the option Make new renderer the default renderer to save the renderer setting and load it again when PDS is opened. Note: Saving preferences will not save the selected renderer. This is a safety feature. Page 122 of 131 9/29/2004

Hardware Keyboard Arrow Keys The arrow keys on the keyboard can now be used to track around a piece in Edit Point Info, Edit Notch Info, and Edit Line Info. The down arrow goes to the next point and the up arrow goes to the previous point. The left and right arrows are used to move back and forth within a text field. In addition, the cursor and focus remains in the last field edited after the Apply button is used or another point is selected.

Line Extensions Release 8.0 of AccuMark and PDS will also allow users to work with line extensions on AccuMark data and have the correct grading in plotting and marker making. The picture below shows 2 pieces in their unclipped and clipped states. Implementing the grade.dll will allow the results shown in the clipped state in PDS to be sent to AccuMark plotting and Marker Making. Unclipped Clipped

Create Piece Create Piece/Graded Size Create Piece/Graded Size creates a copy of the piece in a selected graded size. Growth values for the grade rules are removed. Use the New Piece Name option to control whether system prompts for new piece name or keeps name of source piece. This function was created to replace the function View/Grade/Show Non-Base Size. The Show NonBase Size is no longer available. Darts Folded darts can now be manipulated without being opened first. This means that functions such as Rotate Dart and Combine Dart can now be used with folded darts. The newly created dart is left open so that the fold side can be selected when the dart is folded using the fold dart function. To manipulate a folded dart, select the dart on the dart hat. Dart functions now have the option to select internals to move. Selecting internals when prompted allows the internals to move relative to the dart as dart is manipulated. This is similar to the option in fullness functions. Distribute Rotate has also been enhanced so that 100% of the dart can be rotated. This is similar to the Rotate Dart function. Expert Functions The six functions previously only available with the Expert version of PDS2000 are now included in the Professional version. The functions include Tapered and Variable Slash and Spread, Reshape Curve, Armhole/Sleeve Cap, Create Binding and Measurement Charts. These functions are extremely powerful and provide the ability to make advanced pattern making changes to multiple pieces at one time. Please see On Line Help for additional information.

Seam Corners Two new Seam Corners have been added to the system, and new options are available in the Step Corner functions. Slanted Step Corner Slanted Step Corner can be used to apply a step corner with an angled step line. The angle of the step can be defined by an offset amount from the perpendicular location or by defining an angle. For best results, use Add Grade Point at the split location for the step corner before applying to corner.

Slanted Step Corner Envelope Corner Envelope Corner can be used to create a corner similar to a Mitered Corner. It is different from a Miter because the corner line is not necessarily a straight line. The corner is constructed by offsetting a line inside the sew lines by the amount of seam defined for that line. An angle bisector is then drawn from the original sew line intersection to the intersection of the offset lines and is mirrored about the sew lines to form the corner shape. If desired, seam allowance or an offset amount (indicated by distance C in the image below) may be specified.

Curve Types for Step Corners New Curve Type function options have been added to the three Step Corner functions, Perpendicular Step, Bisect Step and Slanted Step. The curve types, Curved Intersection and Oval, may be applied to the corner point(s) of a step corner so that a curved line connects the step lines. Curved Intersection may be applied on up to two corner points. Curves may be adjusted multiple times until desired shape is achieved. Oval may be applied to one corner point.

When Curved Intersection or Oval is selected, PDS prompts for the corner to add the curve type. If no curves are desired, end selection and the step corner is applied without special curve types. The illustrations below show the Curved Intersection option used at both the top and bottom of the step and an example of a step corner with an Oval curve type.

Notch/Selection Function Options The options for notches and line selection have been removed from the Remove Corner and Step corners functions because they are not applicable for those corner functions.

Corner Extensions Several corner types now use extensions when seam is defined. Match Seam, Match Squared, Square, Perpendicular, Slant and Bisect Step all apply corner extensions. This is necessary in order to correctly preserve piece geometry. Note: Extensions are for corner construction only does not affect Seam Extension setting for piece.

Piece/Fullness/Fan The Fan function can be used to slash and spread a piece, positioning the curve of one piece to fit along the curve of another piece. The slash lines on the modified piece can be created manually or automatically by the system. If done automatically they can be created proportionally between the starting and ending lines, or perpendicular to the starting line. The spreading of the piece can be done manually or automatically. If done manually, each piece rotates with the movement of the cursor until a left click places that section of the piece. If done automatically, the piece is spread so that the curve of the modified piece fits the curve of the stationary piece. The modified piece is matched to the target piece clockwise from the match point selected on the target piece.

Edit Size Line Functions The Edit Size Line functions from Piece Verify have been added to PDS. The original Make Base Size function from PDS has been expanded to include all the size line functions that Piece Verify provided. Change Base Size Use Change Base Size to display a different size in the nest as the base size. Select the piece(s) and then choose a different size from the dialog for a new base size. The dimensions of the nest do not change. Change Base Dimensions Use Change Base Dimensions to display a different size from the nest as the base size, but give it the original base size label. This results in the original base size changing dimensions. Select the piece(s) and choose a different size from the dialog to be the new base size. The base size will take the dimensions of the new size but still be called the original base size. This is equivalent to using Show Non-Base Size and Save for AccuMark data in previous versions. More/Fewer Size Steps Use More/Fewer Size Steps to change the size step of the piece. Select the piece(s) and select a different size step from the chart. The original dimensions for the graded sizes do not change. If your size step was 1, you can change to a step of 2, eliminating half of the original sizes. Note: Size must be numeric.

Redistribute Growths Use Redistribute Growths to apply the original X,Y growth amounts to a different size step. Select the piece(s) and select from the chart a different size step from the chart and only the base size will stay the same the graded sizes will grow accordingly. For example, if you change a size step of 2 to 1, then the same growth increments will be on each new size. If the growth between size 10 and 12 was 1 cm, Size 10 to 11 will grow 1 cm and size 11 to 12 will grow 1 cm after using Redistribute growths. Note: Size must be numeric. Edit Break Sizes Use Edit Break Sizes to add or remove size breaks. Select the piece(s) and end selection. Select a size to add as a break or select a size to delete as a break.

Rename Size Use Rename Size to change the name of an alphanumeric size. Place the text cursor in the field of the size to edit and enter and new size name.

Measurement Charts A new column has been added to the Measurement Chart. The column, Operations, displays the right mouse button functions used on the current row. If multiple operations were performed on the row of data, a semi-colon separates each operation.

It is possible to create a chart that cannot be updated because the original pattern geometry that was measured no longer exists. To ensure accuracy and decrease this possibility, the Recalc button has been removed.

New Warning Message for Measure Charts A new warning message has been added when Measurement Charts are first opened to remind the user that pattern modifications should be performed before measurements are taken for the measure chart. Certain pattern modifications can invalidate the equations created when measurements are taken. For example, if a line is measured and then that line is split, the equation is no longer accurate.

New Measurement Functions Measure Finished A new measurement function called Measure Finish has been added to PDS. The function gives the finished measurement across a piece from sew line to sew line, even if the point selections are made on the cut line. In the picture below the points to measure between are selected on the cut line, and the measurement is taken along the direction of that line between the sew lines. This functionality is available in the both the Measure and Grade menus.

Measure Distance to Notch A new measurement function has been added called Measure/Measure Distance to Notch. The function provides the measurement along the piece perimeter from a notch to the next notch or to the end of the line. This eliminates the need to use Measure/Perimeter 2 Point or Measure/Line and splitting the line at the notches. The measurement is taken by simply selecting a location along the portion of the line to be measured. The new function has also been added to the Grade menu.
