Radiation Emitted By Telco Towers Are Safely Below Exposure Limits Set By ICNIRP
In a recent test carried out by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) demonstrated that the non-ionising radiation emitted by a Telco tower (Base Station) is safely below exposure limits set by the International Council on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). Using German test equipment to capture a spectrum of frequencies ranging from radio and television to mobile phone frequencies around SJK(C) Shang Wu, the team conducted a test which showed that the frequencies of TV-UHF, GSM 900 and GSM1800 were at 0.0059 volts per metre (V/m), 0.5151 V/m and 0.4414 V/m, below the ICNIRP exposure limits of 28 V/m, 42.3 V/m and 58.8 V/m respectively and therefore cause no harmful effect.

Jeff Ooi, chairman of The Special Task Force to Handle Telecommunications Infrastructure Issues, said the levels are safe for Penangites and further informed that the ICNIRP benchmarks are the safest to adopt for EMF related affects.
Therefore, the above, also strengthens the Telecom Commission decision for the adoption of ICNIRP guidelines, for limiting the Human exposure to EMF, for the Telecom Sector in India. The standards set by ICNIRP for emission levels are considered to be the safest, and have been adopted by most of the countries across the globe to ensure compliance against all the safety limits from EMF. The World Health Organization, is closely involved with the studies and research being carried out by various international bodies, and has recommended adoption of ICNIRP standards. As per their advice: The ICNIRP guidelines were developed to limit human exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) under conditions of maximum absorption of the fields, which rarely occurs, and the limits incorporate large safety factors to protect workers and even larger safety factors to protect the general public, including children. Thus, the limits in the ICNIRP guidelines are highly protective and are based on all the available scientific evidence In India, there were many misconceptions and apprehensions with regard to the radiations from the Mobile Phones & Base Stations. Adoption of ICNIRP guidelines and safety limits provided therein would be very valuable in spreading awareness among people and would also dispel any apprehension & misconception with regard to the alleged adverse affects from mobile radiations and will also provide reassurance to all that the India Telecom Industry is in conformance with the world standards.
