CA ARCserve D2D stores the catalog les in the CA ARCserve D2D des na on machine/disk under the <machine name> catalogfolder.CAARCserveD2Dcreatesacataloglea erthebackupjobiscomplete,eachcataloglehasauniquesession name.Thenumberofcataloglescreateddependsontherecoverypointscongured.A erthespeciednumberofcatalog lesarecreated,theolderlesaremerged. CA ARCserve D2D displays the Catalog Status and corresponding File Copy Status on the home page (Most Recent Events sec on)alongwiththecorrespondingstatus,thetypeofeventperformed,thedateand meoftheevent,andthesizeof thedatabackedup.Italsoincludesthenameoftheevent(ifspeciedbytheuser). ThecataloglecreatedforMicroso Exchangecanbeiden edbythenameMicroso ExchangeWriter_<sessionnumber>, similarlycataloglecreatedforMicroso SQLcanbeiden edbythenameSqlServerWriter_<sessionnumber>. CAARCserveD2DrequiresthatyouenabletheExchangeGranularRestoreop onforthecorrespondingExchangeGranular Restorecatalogstobegeneratedduringeachbackup.Thesecatalogshelpyoutoperformgranularrecoveries(atmailbox, mailboxfolder,andormailitemlevels)byle ngyoubrowseandselectexactlywhichExchangeobjectyouwanttorecover. However, if the Exchange Granular Restore op on is disabled, the Exchange mailboxes may not be displayed when you browse the mailbox database as the corresponding catalog was not generated. The Exchange Granular Restore op on is enabledbydefault. Whyiscatalognotbeinggeneratedformybackupsessions?
Ifscheduledbackupsareoccurringmorefrequentlythantheamountof meittakestogeneratealesystemcatalogfor previousbackupjobs,yourrecoverypointreten oncountmaybeexceededbeforethelesystemcatalogbeinggenerat edfortheoldestsessioniscompleted.Ifthishappenstheremaybenocataloggeneratedforthebackupsessions. Toavoidthissitua on,youshouldeitherincreasethescheduleinterval meforyourincrementalbackupsorincreasethe reten oncount.

WhydoweneedtogenerateExchangeGranularRestoreCatalogbefore restore?
ExchangeGranularRestorecatalogshelpyoutoperformgranularrecoveries(atmailbox,mailboxfolder,andormailitem levels)byle ngyoubrowseandselectexactlywhichExchangeobjectyouwanttorecover. IfyouhaveenabledtheExchangeGranularRestoreop onatbackup,thecorrespondingExchangeGranularRestorecata logsaregeneratedduringeachbackup.However,ifyouhavedisabledtheExchangeGranularRestoreop onatbackup, theExchangemailboxesmaynotbedisplayedwhenyouaretryingtobrowsethemailboxdatabaseinarecoverypoint becausethecorrespondingcatalogwasnotgenerated. Youcanenableautoma cgenera onoftheExchangeGranularRestorecatalogsfromtheCAARCserveD2Dhomepage. SelectSe ngsfromthetaskbarandthenselecttheBackupSe ngstab.WhentheBackupSe ngsdialogopens,select Advanced. CAARCserveD2DletsyougeneratethecatalogmanuallyfromtheRestoreExchangeMailsdialogbeforeyouperformthe restore.
