STUDENT SENATE Bill 2012-XXXX TITLE: Creation of a Student Organization of the Month Program.

WHEREAS, The Student Organizations at the University of Florida are of paramount importance to the well-being and vitality of the student body; and, WHEREAS, The Gator Nation boasts over 975 registered student organizations: and, WHEREAS, The Student Activities and Involvement center for the Division of Student Affairs claims, Student organizations at the University of Florida have critical impact on the student experience providing opportunities for leadership development, social interaction, entertainment, and education; and, WHEREAS, There are a large and diverse variety of University of Florida registered student organizations founded on subjects that include but are not limited to: dance, religion, politics, recreation, research, culture, music, and adventure; and, WHEREAS, Each organization holds high and equal importance to the University, its students, and the University of Florida Student Senate; and, WHEREAS, The University of Florida Student Senate possesses a definitive responsibility to the welfare of the students and their organizations; and, WHEREAS, The Student Government of the University of Florida is given documented authority by the Student Body Constitution to, Provide services and organize events for the benefit of the students; and, WHEREAS, The Student Senate of the University of Florida supports the creation of a monthly nominated and advertised Student Organization of the Month program in order to promote the welfare and wellbeing of the student body and its diverse plethora of student organizations; and, WHEREAS, The Student Senate supports the use of social networking and the official Student Government webpage in order to facilitate the program and accomplish said advertising; and, WHEREAS, The Student Senate supports providing the jurisdiction of nomination to the Information and Communication Committee; and,

WHEREAS, The Student Senate supports the invitation, of an executive member of the monthly nominated organization to speak, during open debate, in the first regularly scheduled student senate meeting of the month, in order to inform the senate, and thereby its constituents, about the nominated organization, its upcoming events, and its central focus; and,

THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the University of Florida Student Senate supports the welfare and betterment of the diverse and prolific quantity of Student Organizations; and, THEREFORE, LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Florida Student Senate possesses a fervent support of initiatives that further the student body and its activities in all regards; and, THEREFORE, LET IT BE FINALLY RESOLVED that the University of Florida Student Senate, in order to promote the wellbeing of the Gator Nation, supports the creation of a Student Organization of the Month program, in order to inform the student body of the multitudinous involvement opportunities that surround them while also bettering the diverse quantity of student organizations that exist on campus. PROVISO: A copy of this bill shall be sent to the University of Florida Division of Student affairs.
