FROM THE PRESIDENT, KRISTINA GREER, ACB CL

Honored to be your President

I was honored to be elected as president of Chamber Voices Toastmasters. During our meeting when I heard my name announced as one of the nominees for president, I was humbled. Once I was elected as the president and it started to sink in, I became nervous. Being a person who always wants to exceed at everything that is presented to me in life, I most certainly want to do my best as president. So far, my role as the president has not been difficult because at Chamber Voices we have an incredible team of officers and members who all support each other! We work very well together on upcoming meetings, mentoring new members, and on various contests. Never less, I do have to live up to the reputation of the club. After all, how many other clubs have earned the highest honor available in the past eight years? Yes, that's right. Chamber Voices earned President's Distinguished Club for eight years in a row! Our club has also founded seven other Toastmasters Clubs over the past 13 years. I am thrilled and honored to serve my club as President. After all, I am a member of one of the most positive and effective organizations. I encourage everyone to join and see what I am talking about. It will definitely be a life changing experience.

Presidents Distinguished Club

FROM THE TREASURER & SECRETARY, KAY COLLIS DTM PRA, PDG

In 2011, Chamber Voices earned the highest honor available by being recognized as a Presidents Distinguished Club for eight years in a row. It was the tenth time the club earned the highest distinction plus two other years being recognized as Distinguished and Select Distinguished club during Chamber Voices long and well decorated history. Chamber Voices was charted in December 1998 by Bon Appetit and Curtain Call Toastmaster clubs. The Club Sponsors were Phil Cohen and Gayle Brown. The Club Mentors were Kay Collis and David Gahn. Kay Collis is the only member remaining as a Charter Member. Since the clubs inception, and as an on-going sponsor, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce has had a very close relationship with Chamber Voices. The club was established following the values and mission of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and the club continues to provide an invaluable educational tool for Chamber Members. In fact all club members also members of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. Along with the eight Presidents Distinguished honors Chamber Voices has earned, the club has in turn founded many other Toastmasters Clubs including Northern Voices, Viva Las Voices, Cable Masters, Desert Democrats, Vegas Young Professionals Strip View Speakers, Advanced Talk-nology, and Network Toastmasters. While the list is too extensive to detail, many members have emerged as leaders from Chamber Voices. Five Toastmasters Area Governors have called Chamber Voices their home club including Corinne Shearer, Cheryl Miller, Richard Thomas, Steve Goldstein and Mike Keeler. Cheryl Miller also served as Division Governor and District Public Relations Officer. Brian Rice has served as District Public Relations Officer. Charter Member Kay Collis has served as District Public Relations Officer, Lt. Governor Education & Training, District 33 Governor and on the inaugural team of Region Advisors for 2010-2011. Celebrating their 13th Anniversary in December 2012, Chamber Voices continues to develop outstanding communicators and reliable leaders as well as sponsor new clubs....

Why Join Toastmasters International?

Ever wonder who makes the best prospects for Toastmasters? Is there really anyone who wouldnt benefit from this organization? Consider the person who needs to speak occasionally on the job, yet feels like they are ready to faint every time they do. How about the gentleman you know who isnt nervous about speaking, but who lacks organization or the charisma to draw in his audience? There are folks who are called upon to run impromptu meetings or maybe you know a stay-at-home mom who was just elected as PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) President. Have you seen the teacher who stumbles over her words while meeting with parents at Family Night? Think about people you personally know or work with who could learn from Toastmasters. The truth is that EVERYONE can benefit from joining Toastmasters. New participants quickly learn that they are not just attending meetings where they watch people give speeches. Toastmasters is intentionally designed NOT to be a spectators sport. All members are given the opportunity to become engaged in each and every meeting whether it be in a leadership role such as Evaluator, Timer or Ah Counter, or as a Table Topics speaker. Members learn that they need to step up to the plate when needed. Situations arise causing a member who planned to speak or to fill a role to miss a meeting. Toastmasters learn that these moments are new opportunities to stretch and practice their skills without prior preparation. Everyone can find room to improve at Toastmasters no matter what the experience level which explains why there are many longtime members who belong to several clubs. What used to be the dreaded transforms into the most unexpected addiction. I never thought only two short years ago that I would even consider Toastmasters. Someone cared enough to invite me and now I cant get enough of the experience! I am gaining so much more from Toastmasters than I even understood was possible. So who could YOU bring to Toastmasters? Do you know people? Of course you do. Do you understand how they could benefit from Toastmasters? Absolutely. What is keeping you from inviting them to visit our next meeting? Nothing at all. Lets not hide this wonderful opportunity from others. Lets share the secret of Toastmasters with those we encounter this week!

FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS, JULIE QUAN, CC

How Toastmasters Has Impacted My Career

Prior to chiropractic school, I would have never imagined that public speaking would play such a tremendous role in my career. Like many, I thought chiropractic was about neck and low back pain for adults only. Little did I know that chiropractic is really about your nervous system, which is the master system governing all functions in your body. Ever wonder how your heart continues to beat automatically without you reminding it to beat day in and day out? If your nervous system is this important, why is there not more people taking the time to get a spinal check up to make sure that everything is working at its best? Would you wait till all your teeth fall out before you visit a dentist? Of course not! Chiropractic is about your overall health and well-being. Prevention is the key to optimal health because a dollar spent on prevention saves thousands (even millions!) of dollars later from finding a cure. Knowing all of this, I soon realized that educating the public as well as my patients is the key to my success in building my practice. The word doctor is derived from Latin, meaning, "to teach." How am I, "to teach," if one of my biggest fears was public speaking? Growing up I've always been a bit timid, shy, and most of all quiet. How am I going to gather up the courage to speak up and share my message if I was too scared to do so? THANK GOODNESS FOR TOASTMASTERS! Luckily, shortly before graduating from school, I found a very friendly, supportive Toastmasters group. By signing up for a speaking role every meeting, it helped me to control my anxiety in front of the audience. In the past few years, public speaking has opened several doors for me in business. Had I not had the support that I had from Toastmasters, I don't know how I'd be where I am today. It is such a big part of my success and I am so thankful to have found it. I believe that it plays a role in everyone's businesses; therefore, I continue to share it with as many people as possible. Toastmasters has changed my life and I know it will continue to change the lives of thousands around the world. Pay it forward and share Toastmasters with a friend!
