15 Feb 2009 This weekend marked the 64th anniversary of the Dresden

massacre of innocent civilians by the merciless British and American

Bomber Command during the closing days of World War 2.

Over 20,000 frightened and exhausted civilians were burned to death

by phosphorous and high explosive munitions dropped by heavy bombers
sent to destroy the city as a result of Allied suspicion that German
divisions, including elite units, were mobilising within the city.

When Germany finally surrendered in May, the victorious Allies were

ready to demand their pound of flesh. Winston Churchill was said to
be keen on the idea of flooding the Rhur industrial region as a form
of long term punishment for the loosing Germans but fortunately more
sensible heads prevailed.

The Allies and their erstwhile enemy, Germany, later grouped together
with Japan to form the G7 and this group became the most prosperous
bloc of countries in the world. The G7 incidentally was also a group
of former colonial powers who were not unknown for their harsh, iron-
fisted rule meted out to a lot of weak, sedentary countries around the
world. The G7 the world monster looted, wreaked havoc, murdered and
altered societies that could not offer resistance to their military
might. As a result of these actions, many of the former colonies are
still suffering from the after effects of occupation by the G7.

Many of these unfortunate nations are still shackled by continuing

civil strife as a result of forced or coerced migration by disparate
groups of people to these nations from other parts of the world.

Other less fortunate ones were deliberately left holding unresolved

territorial disputes by the colonialists and thus forced to maintain
huge armies in order to fight for themselves once the colonialists
made the exit. This meant that money for development was instead tied
up in purchasing weapons from the G7 countries who were able to reap
big profits despite being no longer the colonial masters.

Today, many of the former colonies are still deeply mired in poverty,
social unrest, civil wars and totally lacking the financial ability to
overcome hunger and disease. Added to their woes, the present world
financial meltdown which was caused by the urge to make maximum profit
in the least possible time has ensured that what liitle worth they had
previously was now worthed even less.

The G7 ought to help these poor countries instead of trying to point

fingers here and there. Instead of stealing the cream of their citizens
which the G7 countries have been fond of doing all this time, the G7
should finance the setting up of learning institutions in these nations
and ensure that the courses and the qualifications are cutting edge.

The G7 should also promote barter trade with these countries since many
of them do not have enough foreign exchange to conduct extensive imports
from rich countries. The IMF should do its part in this regard.

Stop preaching the wonders of capitalism to the others. We already have

witnessed how the global storm has robbed people of their life savings,
robbed households of their homes, closed factories and shuttered banks.
The G7 should sober up right now and acknowledge that others might just
actually be the better half.
The G7 ought to do a soul searching and go over the crimes of the past;
from Dresden to Jakarta, and to the continuing sorrows in Sri Lanka, or
Congo and Gaza. The G7 has a lot of explaining to do. Stop preaching the
shit to others and drop the holier-than-thou stance. Stop the urge to
make profits the size of Everest in the time it takes Hussein Bolt to
get past the first 50 meters. The G7 the world monster is one not needed.
