Al-Awzaa'ee said, "When Innovations emerge and the People of Knowledge do not show rejection against them, they

become the Sunnah". Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah Rahimahullah says in Wasiyyatus-Sughraa (p. 55), He Should regard wealth like he regards the toilet. He has need of it, but it has no place in his heart and he resorts to it only when necessary. From Jaabir (radiyallaahu 'anhu) who said that Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'aliahi wa'sallam) said: Do not acquire knowledge in order to compete with the scholars, nor to argue with the ignorant, nor to gain mastery over the gatherings. Since whoever does that, then: The Fire! The Fire! hadeeth of Abu Hurairah reported by Ahmad (2/338) Muhammad ibn Ismaa'eel al-Bukhaaree said: ((I have written (hadeeth) from more than 1,000 Shaykhs, and from each one I have (taken) 10,000 hadeeth; There is nothing I have except that I recall its isnaad)) Siyar A'laam an-Nubalaa. - Volume 12, Page 407 27. It is reported from Ibn Mas'ood (ra) that he said: Do not learn knowledge for three (things): To amaze and confound the foolish, to argue with the learned and to make peoples faces turn towards you. (But) seek what is with Allaah with your hearts and actions, since only that will remain and whatever is besides it will go. ********************************************* Abu Hurayrah (radhiallahu anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him say what is righteous or keep silent. Whoever believes

in Allah and the Last Day, let him be kind to his neighbor. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him be generous to his guest." [Saheeh Muslim] ******************************************** When the governor of the area of bukhara, Khalid ibn Ahmad al-Dhuhli wanted al-Bukhari to come to the governors mansion and lecture privately to his children, Al-Bukhari refused saying that it would be unacceptable for him to lecture privately to some people only and not allow others to listen. He also told the governors messenger, Tell your master that I shall never humiliate knowledge, and shall never carry it to the doors of the people. They forget the good about others and only mention their faults. They are like flies that avoid the good and pure places and land on the bad and wounds. This title is taken from Anas's saying: "Tether knowledge with writing" (qayyidu al'ilma bi al-kitab). Anas also said: "We would not consider as knowledge the knowledge of those who did not write down their knowledge." Taqyid (p. 96-97). See also al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi's chapter entitled "Writing is the means to tether knowledge and preserve it from oblivion" in his Nawadir al-Usul (p. 39-41).
