1. EVERY art teacher (members and non-members) in the state may be represented by ONE piece of student artwork from every school they teach at.(for example if you have two elementary schools, you may enter one piece of artwork from each school) 2. Artwork must be completed by students enrolled in grades K-12 in the 2012/13 school year. 3. For display reasons, artwork must be 2-dimensional - any medium. HOWEVER, if you only teach 3dimensional classes, take a good photo of the 3-D work for display and matted the photo for Youth Art Month. Dear KAEA member, Your students are invited to join Kansas students from all across the state to participate in the annual Youth ART Month flag design contest. Youth Art Month is a nationally observed celebration of the visual arts and is celebrated each year during the month of March. Its goal is to emphasize the value of visual art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs. This year we are expanding the Kansas YAM flag contest. Flag entries will be divided into three different grade levels Elementary K-5, Middle level 6-8 and High School 9-12. A winner will be chosen for each level. The Student flag designer and their teacher will receive a prize courtesy of Molly Hawkins Wholesale Art Supplies. From these three winners, we will select one overall Grand Prize winner. The Grand Prize winners design will be made into the Kansas YAM flag which will represent Kansas at the National Art Education Conference in New York City. In March, a National flag event will be held in Washington DC and the Grand Prize flag designer be recognized in a ceremony. Space permitting we hope to display all flag entries at the state capital during our Youth Art Month Celebration on Saturday, March 31st, 2012. Sincerely,
