P-12 Practicum Learning Module Plan

Project Proposal
One of the standards I must teach is blueprint reading. The goal of this class is to increase the knowledge base of blueprint reading, identify the different components of a set of drawings, understand how to use measuring devices with blueprints, and understand the different symbols and abbreviations used in industry. Because of my subject, this is the only unit I teach that could be taught in an online environment. The other standards I teach require lab time with expensive tools that students would not have access to at home. My classes are fifty minutes long. It will take a minimum of two weeks to cover the material along with formative and summative assessments. I plan to use Schoology.com as my delivery system. If I find that this system will not work, my backup plan is to use PBworks. The students will be located in the computer lab at school. Because I am responsible for these students at this time of the day, I will have to be in the lab with them. There will not be any special permission required because the students are already enrolled in my class. I do intend to send home a parent letter explaining to parents what their child will be doing during the two weeks. My local mentor will be Mark Flowers. Mr. Flowers has taught Technology Education for 15 years. He has also taught many classes for Georgia Virtual. I plan to include him in my unit development and assignments. I hope, through his feedback and his past experiences with online classes, to produce a quality project. My test class will be conducted during his planning period. He will be able to visit during class time and observe students work. I will also share the experience with him by giving him access to the online class. I will invite my CIED 7603 instructor to be part of the class. Dr. Arome will have rights to view material and interact if necessary.

PPLM Plan Analyze Learners:

The target audience will be nine students I teach during the day. Their general characteristics show that six are 12th graders and the other three are 10th graders. They come from the same general socioeconomic level. Of the 9 students, 3 are Caucasian, 1 is Hispanic and 5 are African American. The students involved have already taken my entry level class. During that time, I introduced blueprint reading to them. This introduction was very general and did not include the depth that this unit will cover. Because of past experience with these students, I am aware of their ability in this subject area. The learning styles of my students are very similar. They all prefer hands on instruction. The largest gap I see is their computer skills and confidence in using them. This may be a problem that I will need to address throughout the unit. Of the nine, one is LD in reading. Three are college prep and the remainder are seeking a general diploma. There are no females in this class.

Georgia Performance Standard ACT-OSF-4. Students will demonstrate knowledge of blueprint terms, components, and symbols. a. Demonstrate knowledge of blueprint terms. b. Demonstrate knowledge of blueprint components. c. Demonstrate knowledge of blueprint symbols. State Objectives: Upon completion of this unit students will be able to do the following: 1. Describe the types of drawings usually included in a set of plans and list the information found on each type. 2. Identify the different types of lines used on construction drawings. 3. Identify selected architectural symbols commonly used to represent materials on plans. 4. Read and interpret plans, elevations, schedules, sections, and details contained in basic construction drawings. 5. Demonstrate or describe how to perform a quantity takeoff for materials.

Select Strategies, Technology, Media, and Materials: The delivery system used in this class will be Schoology.com. My mentor teacher introduced me to the program, and after reviewing it I feel it will serve as a good platform on which to build my unit. I also searched YouTube for videos that relate to my subject or the information covered within a particular lesson. These videos are short and get the idea across. I have created many handouts that must be downloaded and accompanied by a set of plans that must also be downloaded. Students will be using an interactive web 2.0 application that helps them better understand the topic. Along with the software, students will also be required to read out of a textbook. Utilize Technology, Media and Materials: I have prepared 10 different lessons. Within each lesson, students will be expected to use a variety of different instructional strategies. Students will access videos that describe certain aspects covered within the lesson. Students are also given assigned reading from their textbook. To accompany differentiation and assist with any learning disabilities, I have provided an audio track of all assigned reading. Students will have to download worksheets, upload assignments, and interact with software. Students will also be required to participate in a live discussion post which works much like Facebook, view PowerPoints, Prezis, and take pre and post test. .

Required Learner Participation: All students will be expected to participate in all discussion questions. I would require them to respond to at least one of their peers post. Positive feedback only. Other observable activities will be the required drawings that must be interpreted. Students will have to download many drawings and worksheets that will help them understand how to read and locate different parts of the drawing set. Evaluate and Revise: All students will: take a pre and post test. be assigned quizzes that are embedded into many of the lessons. download the assignment worksheets, fill them out and upload to be graded.

Revisions will be made after the unit is complete.
