Required materials for working with the tripod


The whole material is selected to be transported by a small rescue team in backpacks

Set-up instruction
Check of area
Before you start working, carefully check the area. For this, a shovel, a probe and an ice-ax are required. After checking the position of the victim, a rope securing must be set up on the ground in order to secure the rescue team.

Set-up of the tripod:


Move the connector part over one foot tube Attach the 10 m static rope to the connector part with a "Sackstich" - knot

Now, the three tubes of this foot are put together: Foot-tube 1 Meter ectension tube Head tube

After the three feet are put together, they are secured with the cord inside the tubes.

Set-up:
Secure the connector part with the bound in 10 mm static rope (as described before). push the end of this static rope throught the head-roll of this foot.

Secure the connector part against slipping down with a "Spierenstich" knot

Now the 6 mm 7 m accessory cord is attached to one anchor-ring with a "Ankerstich" knot. The "long" (extended) tube now is moved to the opposite side of the crevasse.

Now, put together the next foot and attach it to connector part as described at the next page.

Attention: The extended foot must always stand at the lower side of the crevasse.

Now the head part is attached to the connector part with a steel carabiner as shown. The screw lock must look forward and down.

Attach the third foot in the same way.

Now push the end of the 10 mm static rope through one head roll and guide it down as shown.

Further advices:

Put a short tubular sling through one ring

Attach a Mini Traxion to the sling and Now adjust the connector part and lead the 10 Meter Staticrope through it close the Mini Traxion.

Now the connector part is secured and can be adjusted as required.

Secure the end of the 10 meter static rope with a knot.

Set-up

WRONG!!! The short feet must be positioned further forward! In this setup the tripod would tip over under load!

RIGHT!!! At this setup, the tripod can be loaded. On this picture, the ground fixation (connection) of the three feet can be seen. The next pictures show you how this is made.

Set - up

It is important that all three feet are connected safely with ropes in order to prevent the feet from moving to the side and thus causing a collaps of the tripod. This is done with a rope and pulley system and a securing knot or a blocking device.

Attention: The distance between the short feet and the extended foot must not exceed 3,50 meters

After the tripod is positioned correctly and the feet are secured safely, the 200 meter static rope is knotted into the top double pulley. Now, the rope is guided through the rolls to form a pulley block.

Weitere Aufstellungshinweise!
A steel carabiner is attached into the lower roll. Into this carabiner, the swivel is attached. Into this swivel, the carabiner for the rescuer is attached.

One steel carabiner is attached centrally into the connecto part.

To this carabiner, the pulley block is attached.

Set - up

The fixation of the 200 m static rope is done with a Pro Traxion. For this, a tubular sling is attached to one anchor ring.

The 200 m rope is laid into the Pro Traxion

ATTENTION: Watch out for the correct rope direction in the Pro Traxion!!!

As soon as the rescuer is positioned, the Pro Traxion is closed. To open it, pull the rope slightly.

Set - up, securing for rescuer and victim

The pulley-block is now hanged in. Both the 10 m and the 200 m static ropes are blocked in their rope blockers.

The rescuer secures himself to the above explained carabiner for the rescuer under the Swivel. To pick up the victim, a tubular sling with another Steel carabiner into this carabiner .

The rescuer is secured as shown and picks up the required rescue tools.

Lowering the rescuer into the crevasse


The rescuer is lowered with a descender The person at the descender shall be secured seperately, even though the pulley block reduces the pull in the rope. As soon as the rescuer has reached the victim, he/she secures the victim with the steel carabiner. After freeing the victim, rescuer and victim can be pulled up together by 2 - 4 rescuers
