composed of not-so-subtle far left-wing propaganda aimed at molding young childrens minds the way our current administration wants them molded. Children do not need television. Those of you who, like me, were young children in the 40s and 50s probably did not even have a television in your homes. What did we do? We played board games. We played cards. We played games outdoors. We rode our bicycles. We invented our own track and field events for the neighborhood. We played cops and robbers and cowboys and indians, making up the scenarios as we went along. We gathered scrap lumber and nails and hammered together birdhouses and feeders. There was never nothing to do. We played a game we called batter up, in which we rotated among us at either being the batter or playing in the field. We made up games using a football, kickball or whatever we could get our hands on. We went to the park to try our hand at tennis or to go swimming or just to swing on the swings and see how high we go. Unless you are 100% physically and mentally disabled, television is nothing but a poison to your mind and part of the bread and circuses in which the powers that be want you do be involved. If you get all your news via cable/satellite or local news stations, you are living in the dark. Wake up! Please note: New phone number: 713-469-9062 Yours truly, Penny Peavy Editor/Publisher penny@thetexasfreepress.com

Each month lately, I have said to myself and others that I would change this publication back to something more home, garden and real estate oriented, but each month there seems to be more and more important messages I feel compelled to include. Therefore, Isabelle, Lulabelle and The Texas Country Chef have given up space in this months issue in order to present Dr. Quacks very lengthy reprint of an article from the New American by Michael Tennant. This article is about obesity, but I urge you to read it even if you are not overweight or obese. You may have friends, family members or business associates who are overweight or obese. This article gives a great insight into why obesity is prevalent, and it has everything to do with globalism, the UN, U.S. farm subsidies and more. Obesity has become a political issue for which government solutions are in fact the cause, not the cure. See page 7 for the beginning of the article and then continuations through page 11. Once again, especially if you have children, I would suggest that you turn off your cable or satellite TV and turn on to the real news available through the internet. For entertainment, which I like just as much as anyone, subscribe to one of the internet movie channels, hook a laptop computer up to your big screen TV and choose what you want to watch and when you want to watch it. There is extremely good internet news sites, most of which are free although some require a subscription. However, the subscription fees are often less for an entire year than you may now be paying monthly for cable or satellite TV. Childrens programming these days are nearly entirely

"What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms."
(Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, Dec. 20, 1787, in Papers of Jefferson, ed. Boyd et al.) " 'The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.' The right of the whole people, old and young, men, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, and not such merely as are used by the milita, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in upon, in the smallest degree; and all this for the important end to be attained: the rearing up and qualifying a well-regulated militia, so vitally necessary to the security of a free State. Our opinion is that any law, State or Federal, is repugnant to the Constitution, and void, which contravenes this right." [Nunn vs. State, 1 Ga. (1 Kel.) 243, at 251 (1846)] "Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed...." Gun Issues
the school cannot possibly completely control the possibility of gun violence in the schools. There are two solutions to the school massacre events: 1) Allow teachers and school administrators to carry concealed guns, or 2) Take your children out of the public school and home-school them. Those who think its OK to simply take away semi-automatic weapons probably dont know the difference between a semi-auto and an automatic weapon and probably dont know that the average handgun is a semi-automatic firearm. Placing restrictions on semi-automatic handguns may leave granny home alone with no defense. We are not supposed to fear the federal government. The government is supposed to fear us. By taking away guns from the citizenry, the government has nothing to fear. Perhaps it is not that the government fears that we will actively revolt, but rather that our possession of guns gives us that option, one that our federal government simply cannot live with in order to maintain and advance its liberal, progressive, globalist agenda. In all free societies (and I am not really saying that America is truly free any longer), the more freedom there is, it follows that there will be more disagreement among groups of people and among individuals. There is naturally more violence. The government seems to think it has to obligation and right to take away our liberty in the name of controlling violence. Anyone who does not want to live in a free country, of course, has the right to move to a more socialist or communist country. In fact, anyone who hates the Constitution or hates free enterprise or anything else of the America we used to be and should again be, should renounce citizenship and buy a ticket out of here. So, what can do? It is almost a sine qua non that we can do nothing about what the crooks in Washington are doing to us. Every time I have ever written to a legislator, I have received a canned letter in return, explaining why he or she voted for the socialist, government control agenda item and telling me how wonderful he is for having done so. The answers begin at home. Here is an excerpt from a blog I ran across in January. It makes several good points:

Anti-gun advocates s are not afraid that you or I will go kill theater patrons or kids at school. They are planning an economic collapse, which will naturally be followed by massive urban rioting and secessionist movements. They want us to be defenseless against the hungry hordes and especially defenseless against the government-supported thugs who will be first asking for our guns and then confiscating our guns. Veterans and military members will not be willing to come for our guns. The government will enlist useful idiots such as TSA agents or even the UN to come take your guns. The government knows you will not willingly give up your guns and you will probably shoot anyone who tries to kick in your door and enter your home without a warrant. Pro-gun advocates, many of them, believe they only need guns for hunting and self-defense against criminals. They do not seem to understand that the chief reason to own guns and be skilled at using them is for protection from a tyrannical and criminal government. The government of the U. S. is becoming more tyrannical by the moment. The President makes executive orders to bypass the congress. This administration is swiftly taking away our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I dont think very many gun-owners will be able to defend themselves from an actual taking of guns, though I do believe there are many things that can done to prevent such an actual scenario from happening in the first place. I discuss this later in this article. Those who are in favor of cops in schools (including the NRA) are aiding and abetting the government program to teach children to become accustomed to armed guards everywhere they go. This is not a solution to school massacres. First, there are many who believe that the school massacres are false flag events, orchestrated by the CIA, in order to obtain public support for tight gun control and the eventual taking of all guns. Secondly, a couple of armed cop-thugs in

Obamacare (Affordable Healthcare Act) is not about health care. It is about control of we the sheeple. It is about abortion and euthanasia. It is about death panels. It is about rationed health (sickness) care and complete invasion of your health privacy. It is about a complete takeover of your medical care by the government and by the corporate pharmaceutical industry. It is about your personal and private data being entered into a computer for the benefit of government control of your life, how long you live, whether you comply with government-imposed vaccines, government-approved foods and whether or not you own guns they want to confiscate. And it will create skyrocketing medical care costs and insurance premiums, leading to government-funded and controlled sickness care.

At this point, the only way for you as an individual to combat Obamacare is for you to

February 2013 boundaries were drawn before the start of the twentieth century-long before current development patterns emerged- and many current issues cannot be addressed without regional involvement. Consequently, local officials need to examine alternatives (e.g., network approaches and/or consolidations) to problem solving and implementation. The plan continues by referring to what they have dubbed as hybrid local governments, Traditional boundaries are becoming blurred as networks are formed to provide citizens the service and quality they demand. You got to love how they pride themselves for providing us service that we demand; basically telling us what we want and we want is to have our homes taken from the land that we used to own and assigned living quarters under strict rules in a high rise in a mega city because we demanded sustainable communities. I guess we should be careful what we wish for. There are many types of environmental NGOs offering a myriad of services to our communities. When an NGO partners with the government, public-private partnerships (PPP) are created. This definition is one of many for PPPs. In theory, PPPs are designed to offer local governments the opportunity to improve their infrastructure via grants or loan guarantees; while offering contracts to companies which implement sustainable practices into the revamped or new sewer or water system, airports, toll roads, or any other type of infrastructure that needs addressing. NGOs or other private entities entering into a PPP with any government are being paid with tax dollars to implement Agenda 21. NGOs such as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) attract local governments into singing into a regional district membership (erasing political boundaries) concerning any development in the area and play a crucial role in defining the requisites for the contracts awarded. Once your local government has entered into a PPP your government is usually required to pay upfront, a certain percentage, cost for said infrastructure improvements; while being promised reimbursement via the grant. Sounds good, we need these improvements, but we cant pay for them; yet here is an organization willing to help us build or rebuild our dilapidated roads or what have you. And they are even going to go green by practicing sustainable development. PPPs also stifle competition by being given tax breaks, limited liabilities, subsidies, and awarded contracts; immunities not afforded to small businesses, the backbone of our Country. The roles played by NGOs and PPPs as a way to implement Agenda 21 may seem very obvious once some due diligence is put forth; yet we are meant to be scrutinized as conspiracy theorists. What is it that makes all this, and much more, information unseen and unrecognizable to the everyday Joe? Why is it that any questioning of practices meant to improve our lives by building sustainable communities will be deemed as bigotry and/or selfishness, or worst, a racists? The Delphi Technique/Method In June of 1969 the Rand Corporation release a report based on the study for improving decision-making and used as a method of eliciting and refining group judgments. The technique is designed to bring a group of individuals together to build a consensus anonymously via questionnaires and surveys; as well as have you believe that your decision was the best one when, in fact, it was the decision you were meant to select from the limited choices in the survey. The 1969 report was prompted by the Air Force to help formulate group judgments based on the proverb that two heads are better than one. Although the report focused on the decision-making process for military purposes; the 1969 report admits, In industry related techniques are being applied to both technological forecasting and the evaluation of corporate planning. Various public agencies are utilizing Delphi procedures for planning exercises related to education, health, and urban growth. When the Delphi technique is applied to a group tasked with decision-making; the method replaces direct confrontation and debate by a carefully planned, anonymous orderly program of sequential individual interrogations usually conducted by questionnaires. The series of questionnaires is interspersed with feedback derived from the respondents. The complex intricacies of the Delphi method was codified in the 1969 report based on experiments done on UCLA graduate students designed to minimize the biasing effects of dominant individuals of irrelevant communications, and of group pressure toward conformity. In other words, the method is designed for the group to reach a pre-determined consensus while diminishing and shunning individual thoughts and individual opinions. A decision must be made for the greater good. So what does a report issued by a global think-tank to the USAF have to do with Agenda 21? Well, whenever a NGO is or has created a PPP, since it is your tax dollars, the public is invited to visioning groups and meetings. These gatherings are arranged to gather public feedback on the intentions of the PPP; and as a means to garner support for the proposals advocating sustainable development. The meetings are held merely for show, as a way to offer you the comfort of direct involvement in the allocation of your tax dollars to conserve your community. The connection between the Delphi technique and Agenda 21 is how the visioning meetings are conducted. Coincidentally, and you remember how I feel about coincidences, the visioning meetings are conducted with over days or weeks with anonymous surveys met with public feedback from the survey results; however, the facilitator, an employee of the planning organization or other NGOs , directs the objective discussion in the way that promotes the organizations or associations intended goals. Every public visioning or planning meeting is set in place to have us feel as if our voices are being heard and greatly considered in the development and preservation of our property; yet every single plan, grant, easement, or guaranteed loan seems to come with ropes woven with Agenda 21 goals. Remember, these are the goals that we demand by allowing our local governments to unlawfully enter our communities into the guidelines arranged by the experts. With the Delphi technique, it does not matter who, nor, how many dissenters voice their opinions; the objectives outlined by the meeting organizers will be met. When someone has a question about the results of the survey or why there was not a choice of none of the above, the facilitator takes advantage of the virtue patience and tells the questioner that all questions will be addressed when Im done speaking. At the end of his presentation, the facilitator simply walks away never addressing the inquiries raised by the questioner. This is one of the ways to squash dissension; to minimize the biasing effects of dominant individuals of irrelevant communications. Men naturally rebel against the injustice of which they are victims, wrote Frederick Bas-

A Comprehensive View of Agenda 21

Part Three
governments, i.e., city or county, the organizations may still be classified as NGOs rather than intergovernmental organizations. The first of the two NGOs I am referring to is the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability). ICLEI was founded in 1990 at the UNs World Congress of Local Governments for a Sustainable Future as the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives. In 2003 members of ICLEI voted to hyphenate the acronym with Local Governments for Sustainability as an attempt to better reflect current challenges local governments are facing, according to ICLEIs website. ICLEI, as an international NGO plays a major role in the implementation of Agenda 21 in countries across the globe under the auspices of efforts to combat global warming to ensure sustainable communities. Today ICLEI has invaded over 600 cities and counties in the USA, with many more to come; ensuring the common goal to save the planet is achieved. Common goal.be achieved, hmmm, those words sure do seem familiar; almost as if they describe a conspiracy. Members of ICLEI in the USA include Mayors, City, and County Commissioners who oblige their city or county to guidelines and regulations outlined by the NGO. To obligate a city or county to certain conditions constitutes an agreement between the two parties. Under Article 1 Section 10 of the Constitution of the United States of America, no State shall enter any treaty, alliance or agreement without the expressed consent of the Congress; thus, any obligation made by an elected city or county commissioner to an international organization is unlawful. One way ICLEI is able to muscle the agenda of the 21st century into cities across the nation is by creating regional boards made up of adjoining cities and counties; in which boundaries are blurred and environmental and development jurisdiction is given to the regional board. When your Mayor or City or Commissioners court becomes a member of ICLEI, that membership has essentially given up the Sovereignty of your city or county. The supposed fictional idea that a certain group of individuals have collaborated together to achieve an agreed and coveted goal at any expense, does make for great storytelling; however, today the phrase conspiracy theory has been purposely confined to the imaginaries. Websters online dictionary defines the word conspiracy as, the act of conspiring which is further defined under the word conspire where the first definition describes a secret agreement to commit unlawful acts; however, the second definition states, to act in harmony toward a common goal. The same dictionary defines theory as, the analysis of a set of facts in their relation to one another. If one common definition of the word conspiracy is to take action collectively to achieve a common goal and the word theory is acknowledged as an analysis of facts and how they are related; then proudly wear the title (being that you have done your research and sifted through the mis-and-disinformation) the next time you spread the truth about Agenda 21 and happened to be called a crazyconspiracy theorist. If you have had the pleasure of meeting a liberal environmentalist and happen to mention Agenda 21 and question how it may relate to any planning or conservation projects, the label conspiracy theorist may have already been pinned upon you. Many environmental groups today operate as non-governmental organizations (NGO) whose sole purpose is to conserve the lands of this Earth; and it is through these environmental and planning organizations that Agenda 21 takes root and attracts the vulnerable environmental enthusiasts only to feed them the propaganda and the tools to suppress those with opposing views. Name calling has, and will always have an effect on certain individuals; however, we must remember that this is just one of the many tactics used by the manipulators to shame us away from using our own minds. I dont know about you, but I enjoy the presence of my Free Mind and I will not be belittled into a consensus. consider the interdependent challenges of economic growth and revitalization, social equity, access to opportunity, public health, and environmental impact simultaneously. The requirements and expectations of the grantee were designed by ICLEI and NARC which the federal agencies then utilized. That is the power of an NGO. The power to draft plans and advice the government to implement their recommendations did not escape the authors of Agenda 21. Chapter 27 Paragraph 27.3 of the Rio action plan states, To ensure that the full potential contribution of non-governmental organizations is realized, the fullest possible communication and cooperation between international organizations, national and local governments and non-governmental organizations should be prompted in in institutions mandated, and programmes designed to carry out Agenda 21. Harvey Ruvin, Clerk of the Courts for Miami Dade County, Fl and board member of ICLEI USA is known to have said the following: Individual rights will have to take a back seat to the collective in the process of implementing sustainable development. This is the mentality of the compartmentalized fascist donning a Green Mask for the sake of sustainable development. Returning to the HUD/DOT/EPA grant; applicants were considered based on indicators for housing, environmental quality, transportation access, socioeconomic inequality, economic opportunity, food access, and healthy communities. Each of the elements, including the 3Es, was addressed throughout the forty chapters of Agenda 21. When collecting the facts and analyzing their relation to one another, we can see a picture begin to form. That picture reveals the true nature of Agenda 21 and how it has weaseled its way into our country using our own tax dollars to aggregate us into high density mega cities where everything is regulated and Individual rights are forgotten. The other NGO Id like to touch on is the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). The ICMAs mission and vision is to create excellence in local governance by developing and fostering professional management to build sustainable communities that improve peoples lives worldwide. There it is again. Did you see it? Did you recognize the language used in their mission statement? Build sustainable communities and improve peoples lives; do you see it now? As benign as the language may appear; remember the appearance may actually be a fraud. Or perhaps I am being a bit paranoid. ICMA recruits city and county managers appointed by their respective elective officials as members to accomplish their goal of building sustainable communities. ICMA admits that the decisions made by (their) members affect millions of individuals living in thousands of communities, from small villages to large metropolitan areas. Services provided to members of ICMA include data, publications, information, and training to over 9000 members worldwide. According to ICMAs Strategic Plan adopted in 2008, one environmental force affecting local governments is political boundaries, Most political

tiat in his 1850 pamphlet concerning socialism in France. Men, Women, Humans, and Anyone with a conscious are hardwired with a defense reflex; something instinctual and natural; and we perceive a great injustice thrust upon us, we naturally investigate the situation to confirm that the plan does not negatively affect you. In a visioning meeting, this sort of instinctual defense of questioning the plan set forth may lead to the isolation and excommunication of the questionnaire. When the meetings are the complete, the NGO compiles any relevant data for the planning project, eliminating questions pertinent to property rights and freedoms; while allowing subtle and vague questions against the plan, to enter into the report. This report is then admitted to a government agency as recommendations as to how to achieve sustainable development. The report must contain recorded participation from the public since it is public dollars that funds the proposed plans. In these meetings we are led to believe the plan derived from public-input over a series of surveys and rounds of feedback, is exactly what we want is providing the service and quality the public demands. Is this not the Rand Corporations goal of improving decisionmaking and formulating group judgments? Thus, the only way to improve decisionmaking, as seen by the Rand Corporation, is to formulate group judgments via anonymous surveys and group feedback. Conclusion From Rio de Janiero, 1992 to the creation of Clintons Presidential Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD), to NGOs such as ICLEI; we now have a better picture of the role each one of these parties plays in the implementation of Agenda 21 in our country. The idea of a Green Mask wearing cabal hell bent on taking over the world does seem fit for great storytelling; but, the moment you mention this to your neighbor, friend, or loved one, youll quickly be dismissed as a conspiracy theorist. Remember the meaning of conspiracy and theory? Those who use the phrase with derogatory intentions only use the label for that very same intention. The term is meant to shame you into never questioning. To never have an honest input about what was not in the multiple choice survey questionnaire. To fully understand Agenda 21 and how it is designed to capitalize on opportunities presented to the public to restrict land use and development, eventually leading to serfdom; you must go beyond this series. To be able to codify Agenda 21 into written words would lead to a book-length version; for example Rosa Koires Behind a Green Mask or Dr. Illeana Johnson Paughs UN Agenda 21: Environmental Piracy. The complexities of Agenda 21 are designed for confusion and deceit. The more complicated the problem; the more we feel helpless. The more we feel helpless, the more we rely on others for safety. A helpless animal is a domesticated animal alive for production and profit. This is the endgame of Agenda 21; to strip us of property rights and turn us into chattel all for the sake of sustainable development to improve our lives and for profit. To implement the Wildlands Project where over 60% of land in America is limited to approved human activity with only 10% of the sixty made up of mega cities with no private transportation because there are railways and bicycle rental stations where you can use your credits earned by your labor. Check it out for yourself, there's plenty more information out there revealing how Agenda 21 is already here, slowly enslaving us under the guise of sustainability.

Get Organized Continued frpm Page 3 Sun Tzu in his treatise, The Art of War: To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemys resistance without fighting. The idea is to pose a level of martial, economic, and social prowess, vigilance, and preparedness denying your adversary even the opportunity of feasibly confronting you. It also involves imposing your will upon the adversary, rather than simply responding to a series of your adversarys provocations. It cannot be said of Americas firearms owners that they possess any of these qualities which is why their rights and freedoms are being slowly subverted, and the battle slowly taken from them. Getting organized locally, first as a shooting club, then as community activists involved heavily with local law enforcement, volunteer firefighters, disaster response, gun safety and marksmanship courses, competitions, and so on creates a physical infrastructure, a coordinated, active and well exercised armed citizenry capable of facing a myriad of adversity together as a community, for their community.

firearms safety course through local law enforcement. It seems like a small step to take, one that will not make much of a difference, but a single viable model can provide an example for others to replicate across the country, in parallel and to great effect. Those groups that aim on being balanced, responsible, inclusive, representative of all who live in their community, objective, and attempt to reach out to everyone, especially those who stand against the right to bear arms, will be amongst the most successful. Additionally, such organizations must by necessity address the actual causes of violence through improving education, infrastructure, and economic prospects on a local level as is the duty of all responsible, well-informed citizens. Having weapons is not enough if you have no means of sustaining yourself socially, economically, or logistically. Building a strong, self-reliant community, and a nation built up of such communities is the other necessary ingredient needed to sustainably preserve freedom. The first county that actually reduces crime by addressing its causes rather than endlessly fighting its symptoms, and is able to successfully communicate that success, will have erected a mile-high brick wall for gun control advocates to climb over. It is likely that even opponents of gun ownership will see activism addressing many of their own political causes, including poverty, education, and economic disparity, and realize the best option is not animosity and endless debate, but pragmatism and cooperation in the streets.

If you remember from last month, my peeps accused me of being a criminal, but thanks to a neighbor, Im off the hook on that charge. My peeps know the truth now. The truth is that I have secret admirer, a tiny little dog, who steals and drags toys down the street and down my driveway to my toy pile. She leaves them there and never tries to get them back. Wow! I think this doggy thinks I am Queen of the Neighborhood! Well, thats almost right. Im actually Queen of the World! I tell you, thats the truth! One of the toys had an irressitable black tail. I ripped that tail right off and left it in the drive. Mom and a friend of hers thought at first it was the tail of a black cat until they looked closer and knew it just an artifact from my toy pile. Another toy had a squeaky thing in it, and I chewed and chewed on that toy to get that darn squeaker out so I could kill it. Sure enough I succeeded. I just left the squeaker in the driveway, and, one day, Mom stepped on it, heard it squeak, picked it up and tossed it in the trash. That was funny. Humans can be hilariously funny. Now, the really good side, Little Mom brought me an old chair cushion to put under my bed. Oh how warm and cozy that made me. I was so abused when only my bed sat directly on concrete. Now I really have my own little cave to snuggle

into at night and several times during the day. I never wander far from home on my outings, a lesson Ive taken awhile to learn. Im so grown up now that I know where my food and water and warm bed come from. I have to protect them all from jealous dogs and from cats and other critters. I know how to sound mean and look mean. I have a way of testing humans. If a human is one I dont know or havent seen in a while, I go right up to him and smell his shoes. If he seems afraid when I approach him to take a whiff, I dont like the dude and dont trust him. I had a great day yesterday, as two guests whose shoes I really like came over for a while. They both talk sweet to me, throw sticks for me to chase (which I never return) and pet me a lot. I love it! Mom keeps on training me. She says school is for life, not just for puppies. Boo hoo! Always have to learn something. I comply as best I can, but I will never return those sticks and bones people throw to me. After all, I have to have my independence and liberty to make a few choices of my own, without interference from humans. Its nap time, and Im going to my cave to have some chow, some water and to snooze for a while. I do have a good dogs life! Bow-wow to all my doggy pals. Signing off until next month.

tion, they can use the crisis du jour to fuel their gun grab; and because Big Pharma, who makes approximately a gazillion dollars a year on the sale of psych drugs, has tentacles into the government and lots of high-priced lobbyists, and the government is not keen to buck this power structure. Truth: Gun-free zones allow for the accumulation of many bodies in an attack. This is obvious, because in a "gun-free zone" there is nobody to shoot back. Is the government going to acknowledge this? No. It doesnt serve their agenda. It is crucial to remember that if a problem persists despite the existence of solutions, then that problem is being held in place by those who profit from it. This is done by the proliferation of lies. be designed only to pave the way for increased drug sales and a tighter symbiotic power structure between Big Pharma and the State. Big Pharma profits from the expanding market of psychotropic drugs. Government gains power from civilian disarmament. They are not interested in solutions. For them, no matter how horrible this sounds, the slaughter of little kids in government schools presents them with a valuable opportunity; it provides fuel for their propaganda fires. They will, of course, never admit this; they will express only the deepest sympathy for "our loss". Any politician who really wants to solve the problem of mass shootings should be standing up loudly in opposition to gun control not only the current push for new restrictions, but also 2nd Amendment infringements already in place and should be calling for an immediate investigation into the connection between psychotropic drugs and mass shootings. Those politicians who prefer not to do this, whatever they may say to the contrary, are complicit in the lies and are therefore part of the problem.

I know there are some honorable people in government. I have even met some. This article is not about them. It is about those politicians, hereinafter referred to as "the government", who aid and abet the proliferation of politically expedient lies in a thousand sneaky ways. They would appear to be the majority, or things would be better than they are.

I often hear questions like these: Why doesnt the government address the issue of the link between psychotropic drugs and mass shootings? Why do they talk only about gun control as a means to "stop the violence"? Why dont they get it? Why are they so dumb?

$140.13 + tax

Listen: They are not dumb. They know exactly what they are doing. And when it comes to mass shootings, despite all the sympathetic things they say, they actually find such crises useful. "Problem-reaction-solution" is the traditional tool used by authoritarian regimes to expand their grip. This was once affirmed by Rahm Emmanuel, Obamas former White House Chief of Staff, when he said, in a rare moment of candor, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that its an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before."

If the federal gun-grabbers actually wanted solutions to the problem of mass shootings, they would look for actual causes. Without extreme public pressure, they are not going to do this. They will look only for causes, however specious, that support their position that more government control is the only solution. And they will try to paint as crazy anybody who argues otherwise.

Truth: Psychiatric drugs are implicated as a causative factor in mass shootings. Evidence of this abounds certainly enough to justify a serious federal investigation. The government prefers to ignore this. Why? Because as long as they pretend not to see the connec-

Arguments that neglect this evidence can nations healthcare systems. Few would deny that obesity is a serious problem in the modern world. Sedentary lifestyles, poor diets, and possibly many other factors have caused scales to tip at previously unheard-of rates. According to the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO), as of 2008 more than 1.4 billion adults were overweight, and more than half a billion were obese. The WHO claims that every year at least 2.8 million people die as a result of being overweight or obese. As one might expect, the problem is most acute in prosperous countries. Among industrialized nations, the United States bears the dubious distinction of being the worlds fattest, with over 35 percent of adults and 17 percent of youth classified as obese, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. But, says the WHO, obesity is now also prevalent in low- and middleincome countries. (It is not, however, a noteworthy concern in communist countries, where the population is continually kept on the brink of starvation: North Korea tops the list of thinnest nations.) The obesity problem, therefore, is not to be ignored; and governments, ever eager to seize upon the latest crisis to arrogate more power to themselves, have most certainly not ignored it. While the varied interventions among them fat taxes, soda bans, and even mandated waist measurements may appear to be isolated efforts by governments hoping to improve their peoples health and reduce healthcare costs, they are, in fact, part of a much larger, global movement seeking vastly greater state control over all aspects of society. The New Global Warming Obesity is the new global warming, Wesley J. Smith declared in a 2011 issue of the Weekly Standard. With the alleged threat of global warming increasingly being viewed with skepticism by the general public, he wrote,

Globesity: How Globalists Are Feeding Off the Obesity Crisis

Written by Michael Tennant

Last November, the government of Denmark announced that it was repealing a year-old tax on fatty foods because the tax had failed to curb fat consumption but had succeeded in driving business and jobs to neighboring countries. It was a rare retreat in the international war on obesity. From London to Lima and from the Big Apple to Budapest, governments are imposing increasingly onerous diktats in an effort to shrink their populations rapidly expanding waistlines. The hope is that by reducing the incidence of obesity, the many health problems associated with it, such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes, will also become less common, thereby reducing healthcare costs a major concern in an era in which governments either heavily subsidize or fully operate their

it seems clear that modern liberalism has devised a new strategy for imposing policies that it cant attain through ordinary politicking. First, identify a crisis ostensibly caused by modern lifestyles and/or capitalism. Next, launch a multifaceted international response to prevent allegedly looming catastrophe. Third, act as if the desired policies are objective, scientific solutions. Fund it all by imposing onerous taxes on an expanding list of villainous enterprises, et voil: Liberalism rides to the rescue. And if the strategy fails on one front, as it appears to have with global warming, find another crisis and start again. The first major salvo in the global war on obesity was launched by the WHO in 2004, when it published its Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health. As befits a UN pronouncement, the documents objective was audacious: The overall goal of the Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health is to promote and protect health by guiding the development of an enabling environment for sustainable actions at individual, community,

national and global levels that, when taken together, will lead to reduced disease and death rates related to unhealthy diet and physical inactivity. (Emphasis added.) Since free markets and individuals, in the WHOs opinion, are responsible for the human races rapidly expanding waistlines, they clearly cannot be trusted to solve the problem. Governments, the Global Strategy maintained, have a central role to create an environment that empowers and encourages behavior changes by individuals, families and communities, to make positive, life-enhancing decisions on healthy diets and patterns of physical activity. Member states are asked to develop national strategies on diet and physical activity that include specific goals, objec-

tored lest they mislead the public about nutritional benefits or risks. National governments should also align their food and agricultural policies with the Global Strategy. They should encourage the reduction of the salt content of processed foods, the use of hydrogenated oils, and the sugar content of beverages and snacks. They should also employ taxation, subsidies or direct pricing in ways that encourage healthy eating and lifelong physical activity. Of course, as the WHO recognized, the best-laid plans of bureaucrats and elites will not accomplish their objectives unless someone is seeing to it that the people are obeying. Monitoring and surveillance are esSee Dr. Quack Continued on Page 8

tives, and actions. All government agencies, not just those directly responsible for health, should be involved in enforcing these plans. Plans should take a lifecourse approach, i.e., they should cover everyone from cradle to grave. Governments should indoctrinate their people starting in primary school and continuing through adult literacy and education programs. No contrary messages shall be sent by the private sector, either. Messages that encourage unhealthy dietary practices or physical inactivity should be discouraged, and positive, healthy messages encouraged. In particular, food and beverage advertisements targeted to children must relay the globalists mantra, and producers health claims must be moni-

The common solution, naturally, is more government intervention. Governments are the most important actors in reversing the obesity epidemic. And they must not be shy about imposing their agenda on every aspect of society: The changes needed to reverse the epidemic are likely to require many sustained interventions at several levels. Necessary alterations include: individual behavior change; interventions in schools, homes, and workplaces; and sector change within agriculture, food services, education, transportation, and urban planning. The authors endorse a variety of interventions across the life course for all demographic groups. They call on governments to protect and promote health and sustainable food security. They want priority given to public transport, walking and cycling environments to get people to stop driving their own cars. They seek wealth redistribution; governments are to ensure taxation and social policies support the reduction of socioeconomic inequalities that contribute to health inequalities. They want more funding for government anti-obesity initiatives, paid for via taxes on tobacco, alcohol, or unhealthy food and beverages. They call for national guidelines for individuals and national targets for the food industry. All of this will be overseen by government experts, who will create monitoring systems to track obesity trends in children and adults and use computational modeling to determine the best approaches to fighting fat. National goals arent the end, however. The UN and other international agencies need to take action to reduce obesity and to spend more money on it. In addition, the protection and maintenance of public health should be considered in relevant trade, economic, agriculture, environment, food, and health agreements and policies. Like its predecessor, the new global warming also has its celebrity spokesmen. Just prior to the UN summit, British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver announced that he was circulating a petition to make obesity a human rights issue, according to the9billion.com. Obesity needs to be on every government agenda, he said at the One Young World Conference in Switzerland. It should be as important as the fight against AIDS and climate change. It has to become the national health priority. When the General Assembly finally did convene, it not surprisingly endorsed the WHOs Global Strategy. Declaring that the global burden and threat of non-communicable diseases constitutes one of the major challenges for development in the twenty-first century and may lead to increasing inequalities between countries and populations, the world body called for collective and multisectoral action by all Member States and other relevant stakeholders at local, national, regional, and global levels to address the problem of obesity. Solving this problem, the UN said, would require leadership and multisectoral approaches for health at the government level, including, as appropriate, See Dr. Quack Continued on Page 9

sential tools in the implementation of national strategies for healthy diets and physical activity, and thus governments should invest in them. Such investment, naturally, will require higher taxes; but since the UN has declared that economic growth is limited unless people are healthy, these programs should draw policy and financial support from national development plans.

A Weighty Matter Before the UN

The pressure for an international response to obesity similar to that being pushed for global warming really ratcheted up when the UN General Assembly held a High-Level Meeting on noncommunicable diseases, many of which are caused or exacerbated by obesity, in 2011. In advance of that meeting, the Lancet, a British medical journal, published an article calling on the UN to adopt the WHOs Global Strategy and making the connection to the global-warming crusade explicit. Obesity, the authors wrote, should be considered alongside other major issues that confront societies ([including] action against climate change), because they all have strong links with obesity prevention, including common causes and solutions. Dr. Quack Continued from Page 8 health in all policies and whole-of-government approaches across all segments of society. Nothing must escape Big Brothers notice. The UN reaffirm[ed] the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health and recognize[d] the importance of universal coverage in national health systems. It decried the uneven distribution of wealth in the world that can contribute to the problem of noncommunicable diseases. And, of course, it called for increased and sustained human, financial and technical resources to combat the problem. Since the UN meeting, the fearmongering has only increased. Scientists (with definite left-wing biases) are now claiming that the increasing prevalence of obesity threatens the entire planet. A 2012 study by faculty members of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine argued that heavier people require more energy to be kept alive and, therefore, tackling population fatness may be critical to world food security and ecological sustainability. Overpopulation doomsayer Thomas Malthus and climate change both got favorable mentions in the study; and in case anyone still couldnt recognize the scientists political leanings, lead researcher Ian Roberts told the Daily Mail: Everyone accepts that population growth threatens global environmental sustainability our study shows that population fatness is also a major threat. Unless we tackle both population and fatness, our chances are slim. So the same people who have been warning of overpopulation, climate change, and other disasters that will surely befall humanity if its selfish interests are not reined in for the common good now want us to believe that unless government steps in and forces us all to lose weight, Earth is surely doomed. I would suggest taking this advice with several grains of salt, but that would undoubtedly run afoul of the globalists dietary recommendations. Of course, as with all such schemes, the elites will be exempt from the rules they impose on the rest of us. Thus, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has forced

restaurants in the city to abandon trans fats and post calorie counts on their menus, worked for reductions in salt in packaged and restaurant food, and got the Board of Health to ban sodas over 16 ounces, dumps salt on almost everything, even saltine crackers, has a weakness for hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and fried chicken, washing them down with a glass of merlot, and snacks on CheezIts, the New York Times reported. Likewise, while First Lady Michelle Obama lectures the rest of us on eating right, she and her husband are known to indulge in cheeseburgers, French fries, and ice cream. And while the average North Korean makes Calista Flockhart look like Rosie ODonnell, Supreme Leader Kim Jongun looks like he could use a membership to Weight Watchers. Subsidizing Super-sized Sodas For now, though, let us put aside all the principled objections to the global war on obesity and consider one practical objection: The same governments that now wish to impose a reducing program on their citizens are also major contributors to humans expanding waistlines. That is especially true in the case of the United States. You are never, ever, ever going to see a change in this countrys obesity until the farm bill is changed, Dr. Jonny Bowden declared in an interview with The New American. Our government supports, through the farm bill, every fattening crop on the planet, every high-carbohydrate, processed food. Bowden, who bills himself as the Rogue Nutritionist, is an expert on weight loss, nutrition, and health and has written numerous books on these subjects, including the bestsellers The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth and Living Low Carb. The major fat-storage hormone in the body is insulin, Bowden explained, and the higher your insulin, the more difficult it is to burn fat and lose weight. Carbohydrate consumption causes the body to release insulin the more carbohydrates, the greater the insulin level. Yet the federal government has for years been subsidizing See Dr. Quack Continued on Page 10

Dr. Quack Continued from Page 9 and promoting the consumption of high-carbohydrate foods. The farm bill subsidizes five commodities: wheat, corn, soybeans, rice, and cotton. The first three of those are the primary ingredients of most processed foods. Farmers are paid based on how many bushels of these crops they grow, which promotes overproduction. Farmers growing fresh produce, by contrast, receive very little from Washington. A result of these policy choices is on stark display in your supermarket, where the real price of fruits and vegetables between 1985 and 2000 increased by nearly 40 percent while the real price of soft drinks (a.k.a. liquid corn) declined by 23 percent, Michael Pollan wrote in a 2007 article in the New York Times Magazine. The reason the least healthful calories in the supermarket are the cheapest is that those are the ones the farm bill encourages farmers to grow. One particularly perverse outcome of corn subsidies has been to make high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) the sweetener of choice for processedfood producers. Nearly all non-diet sodas now contain HFCS, and it is also in dozens of other food products, from breakfast cereal to chicken nuggets. Now, having sugars of any kind tucked into every food imaginable cannot be good for people. But are we even worse off because that sugar is in the form of HFCS? Both table sugar and HFCS are made up of a combination of glucose and fructose. Sugar is exactly half glucose and half fructose; HFCS, as the name implies, has more fructose 55 percent to glucoses 45 percent. From a metabolic point of view, said Bowden, the dam-

aging part of sugar is fructose. Since the difference in fructose content between sugar and HFCS is relatively small, he argues that HFCS is not much worse than sugar. Others disagree, citing studies showing that HFCS is metabolized differently from sugar. Still other studies have found no significant difference. What is certain is that by subsidizing corn, the government has made HFCS considerably less expensive than sugar (which itself is made considerably more expensive by high protective tariffs), thereby enabling processedfood producers to add more sweeteners to their products and sell them in larger sizes without having to raise prices. As a result, Americans today consume vastly more sugar than previous generations, with estimates running as high as 156 pounds per person annually. The USDAs Pyramid Scheme The governments dietary recommendations also contribute to the obesity problem. The USDA has two mandates, and they are conflicting, Bowden maintained. The first is to get the people of the United States good information about nutrition. The second mandate is to build markets and to build business for the agricultural industry. Well, if youre putting out crap, and youve got to build markets for that, you cant very well tell the people that youre supposed to be informing that this is crap. Political influence has plagued the Department of Agricultures dietary advice for well over a century. In his book Bully Boy: The Truth About Theodore Roosevelts Legacy, Jim Powell notes that Harvey Washington Wiley, the chief chemist at the USDAs Bureau of Chemistry from 1882 to 1912, encouraged Americans to consume more sugar, which he considered the hallmark of an advanced civilization. Childhood without candy, he remarked, would be Heaven without harps. Wiley, as it happens, was tight with the sugar industry. He lobbied for high sugar tariffs, and sugar producers helped protect him from political enemies. The food pyramid, which the USDA introduced in 1992, was greatly influenced by politics. The pyramid recommended six to 11 servings of grains daily more than any other food group, and more than vegetables and fruits combined. While the government has stood by this regimen for 11 years, the Wall Street Journal reported in 2002, some critics say its no coincidence that the number of overweight Americans has risen 61% since the pyramid was introduced and almost instantaneously appeared on the sides of pasta boxes, bread wrappers and packages of other food products in the pyramids six-to-11servings category. At that time the USDAs dietary guidelines were up for review, an exercise that attracts not only critics from the world of medicine but industry lobbyists and those promoting the virtues of various food groups and diets, the Journal observed. The lobbying should not be surprising given that, as the same newspaper reported in 2004, the tiniest change to the guidelines or pyramid can swing food companies sales by millions of dollars. Every aisle of the supermarket has a lobbyist in town, food-industry consultant Jeff Nedelman told the Journal. Some industry groups, such as the National Dairy Council, sought increases in the number of recommended servings of their products. Others sought merely to retain their prominence in the pyramid: There is no doubt that the Food Guide Pyramid in 1992 was a big boost to the baking industry, Sara Lee Corp. baking division spokesman Matt Hall told the paper. The resulting guidelines were anything but impartial and scientific. In 2011, the USDA replaced the food pyramid with MyPlate. Most pyramid critics agree that the new guide is an improvement over the old one. Fruits and vegetables now occupy a larger part of the recommended diet, though grains still constitute a sizable portion of it, and dairy not necessarily harmful but certainly not essential remains in the recommendations, no doubt reflecting continued industry pressure. And whereas the food pyramid suggested using fats sparingly, MyPlate fails to address the issue at all, despite research showing that some fats are actually beneficial. Now, after all these years of subsidizing and recommending poor diets, the government, led by the UN, wants people to trust it to help them shrink their waistlines. Yet who doubts that, just as in the past, policies implemented in the future will not be governed solely by disinterested scientists but also by lobbyists, politicians beholden to special interests, and researchers pushing an agenda? Still, even if disinterested individuals were given a free hand to solve the obesity dilemma, what, exactly, would they do? If the president called and said, Youre going to be an advisor [on obesity]. Fix it any way that you want, I would just run from the room screaming because I wouldnt even know where to start, Bowden said. While diet and exercise certainly play a role, there are enormous genetic, metabolic, biochemical, [and] environmental factors that work toSee Dr. Quack Continued on Page 11

I have talked to obesity researchers who have said, Weve been studying this stuff for 20 years, and we still do not understand it. This constitutes yet another parallel between global warming and the obesity crisis. No one doubts that the Earths climate has changed over time not just seasonally but over centuries and millennia and that even now it is changing in observable ways. Likewise, everyone can see with his own eyes or bathroom scale that humans are becoming heavier by the day. In both cases, neither the underlying causes of the changes nor their ultimate repercussions are fully understood, but the solutions proposed by those claiming to know the answers are the same: global governance; a larger, more intrusive state; and a surrender of our liberties. May I suggest a better solution? Get government out of the business of subsidizing crops and making dietary recommendations, period. If food prices were dictated solely by the market rather than by politics, it is likely that fruits and vegetables would be less expensive than processed, unhealthful foods. As Pollan pointed out: Compared with a bunch of carrots, a package of Twinkies, to take one iconic processed foodlike substance as an example, is a highly complicated, high-tech piece of manufacture, involving no fewer than Now is not the time for those 39 ingredients, many theminstitutions to pack on another selves elaborately manufacton in the name of saving us tured, as well as the packaging from ourselves.

and a hefty marketing budget. So how can the supermarket possibly sell a pair of these synthetic cream-filled pseudocakes for less than a bunch of roots? In the absence of subsidies for wheat, corn, and soy, it would almost surely be cheaper to yank roots out of the ground and deliver them to the grocery store than to concoct and deliver many processed foods; and if healthful foods were cheaper, people would be more likely to consume them. In addition, if governments no longer issued dietary guidelines, people would be forced to seek out nutrition information from a variety of sources whose biases are known instead of treating the states lobbyist-influenced word on the subject as gospel. This would create more informed consumers who would be less likely to accept claims that, e.g., anything labeled fat-free is automatically better for them than an equivalent product containing butter. One final suggestion: Get the government out of healthcare, too. As long as healthcare costs are socialized, individuals have much less incentive to take care of their own bodies than they would if they had to pay for their own medical treatment. By the same token, when the government is heavily involved in healthcare, it has a strong incentive to take control of individuals lives so as to minimize its own costs one of the main reasons for the push for command-and-control solutions to the obesity problem. The last thing the world needs is yet another anti-liberty, wealth-redistributing response to an alleged crisis. Humans are already being crushed beneath the weight of government and UN control.
